Harry Kramer: The Edggge of Night. Brought to you by Windex... and Endust.

ACT ONE
Emory's room at Mercy Hospital.

Emory is lying in bed presumably sleeping. Lynn kneels beside him. She then paces the room and thinks to herself: "Thank God they don't think it was a heart attack. Anyway, not a serious one if it was. What would I do without Em? What a crazy thing love is. I knew the day I married him I'd never hold him and keep him to myself. There'd always be other women. I'd rather have him that way than not have him at all. Carol Kramer. Oh, I know she's been... if it's not her there'd be some other one. When he's tired of her there'll be others, but he'll come back to me... especially now. Because I'll get the money and... All right, if that's the only way I can hold him, that's it!"
Lynn sits back down and stares out the window. Emory opens his eyes and thinks to himself: "What's she thinking? Probably how she is going to keep me tied to her apron strings once Grimsley comes through. Well... I'm way ahead of you, bitch! If I can fool these doctors, I can fool you. Where were you Mr. Emory Warren the night your wife was killed? I was in Mercy Hospital under observation. (He laughs). Better move things along."
Emory cries out in supposed pain. Lynn rushes to him. He claims that his chest is tight, and then asks about the reservations to Mexico. Lynn says that she cancelled them. Emory tells her to make the reservations for tomorrow as he should be released and feeling well enough to travel than. He tells her to call Vic (Miller) and tell him that they'll be in Mexico a say later.
The nurse comes in and tells Lynn it's time to leave, as Emory needs his rest. After Lynn leaves, Emory tells the nurse that he feels weak and a little tired. The nurse leaves to get him a pill commenting, "You'll be sound asleep before you know it." Emory says to himself, "Sound asleep... that's what you think, lady!"

ACT TWO
Scene 1
The Karr home

Bill Marceau looks over the Christmas tree. He calls out for Mike. As he waits, he walks around and sees a picture of the Karr's wedding. Bill thinks to himself, "Marriage... a second time. At my age?" The phone rings. Bill answers. It's Dr. Menendez, Warren's doctor. He wants to speak to Mike. They talk, and then Mike tells Bill that the doctor can't find anything wrong with Emory, who'll probably be released in the morning. Bill points out that at least the Warren's won't be leaving for Mexico tonight. That will give Mike extra time to have those summons served. Mike agrees but admits Sam Haven is the man he really wants to find. Judge Riccardi took the baby (Sara-Louise) away from the Capice's and gave it to the Warren's because he believed that Lynn had given the baby to the Capice's on a temporary basis. Mike is sure that Sam Haven knows what really happened. Furthermore, if Mike could get Haven on the witness stand, the truth would come out. Bill calls Tim Shane to see if he has anything new on Haven

Scene 2
The Warren home

Lynn enters as her maid Miss Bailey transfers the contents of one purse to another. Miss Bailey asks about Emory. Lynn tells her that he's irritable, on edge, and breathes heavily at times. Miss Bailey says that it's his heart. Lynn gets upset and insists that the doctor diagnosed indigestion. The maid tells her that it's best to know where she stands so that Lynn could "bend with the wind".
She then shows Lynn one of the handbags and launches into an anecdote about one of her friends who received the handbag for Christmas even though she didn't want one. During the story, Lynn stares out the window, smoking a cigarette. Miss Bailey gets to the point of the story, saying that if her friend had listened to her and not gotten the handbag, she wouldn't have to "bend with the wind" and use a handbag she doesn't even like.
The phone rings. It's Glen Hull, the real estate broker in Lakeview. He asks Lynn what she's going to do about the quit-claim on the Calder property. "Do you want the $2500 or don't you?" he asks.

ACT THREE
Scene 1
The Warren House

Lynn explains that her husband is in the hospital. She says that they talked about the $2500 offer, and there must be something more to it. Hull tries to get Lynn to make a decision, but she says that Emory doesn't think $2500 is enough money. Hull points out that Lynn gave up her claim to the property when she sold it to Mr. Miller. Hull asks if she has power-of-attorney for her husband, suggesting that Lynn sign the paper for Emory. She doesn't know what to do and promises to call Hull back in an hour.

Scene 2
Emory's hospital room

Emory is in bed and wants a cigarette, but decides against it as the nurse would smell the smoke and be on to him. It dosn't matter, he'll be out of there in less than an hour anyway.
The nurse brings Emory a sedative. He pretends to take it. The nurse instructs him to use the call button if he needs anything, though he probably won't as the sedative will knock him out. After she leaves, Emory jumps out of bed, opens the door, and peers down the hall. The coast is clear. Emory gets his street clothes from the closet.
