ACT 1
Takes place in a jail cell. Judy Marceau is in jail with Katie Dwyer, another prisoner. Katie tries to blackmail Judy into having her father Bill Marceau drop all charges against Katie. Katie informs Judy that if she doesn't help her out, she will make sure that Judy will be convicted for the murder of Victor Carlson. The prison matron comes and to take Judy to court. Judy hopes that Lieutenant Ed Gibson is in court. Katie yells for the matron to come back when she finishes taking Judy to the courtroom. Katie has something to tell her.

ACT 2--Scene 1
Long establishing shot of interior courtroom. Mike Karr is working at the defense table. Ed Gibson comes in. They talk about how Ed being in love with Judy may harm the case. Mike tells Ed that he shouldn't ask Chief Marceau to take him off the case. Mike asks if Ed has come up with any promising information yet. Ed says that all he has is a memo from Kraus to Mrs. Vetter. District Attorney Austin Johnson comes in and speaks to Karr and Gibson. Ed leaves. Johnson proceeds to give Mike condolences about the "tragedy he suffered recently" (wife Sara's death). They continue to talk about the case against Judy, and Mike says that he will fight with no holds barred.
Scene 2
In the prison jail cell, the matron returns to see what Katie wants. Katie wants to see the DA. The matron does not want to give in to the request. They argue. Katie won't tell the matron why she wants to see the DA. The matron leaves without agreeing to bring Austin Johnson to see Katie who says, "I've got a score to settle with Judy Marceau. You or nobody else is going to stop me...nobody."

ACT 3
In the courtroom, Judy is alone at the defense table. Mike shows up and says that Bill can't make it to the opening of the trial this morning. Judy asks if Mike saw Ed today. They talk about the love between Judy and Ed. Ed comes in and brings Judy a flower. Mike leaves them alone to call Willie Bryan...
