ACT 1

In a filled Monticello courtroom, Mike Karr comes in and asks the judge for some more time until his witness can show up. The judge and DA Austin Johnson tell Mike that he's spent too much time already, and they must move on. The judge instructs Mike to call his next witness. Mike says that he can't because they have to testify in order...it's important to the case. The judge tells Mike to recall Teresa Vetter. Mike's witness finally shows up. He announces, "The defense calls Miss Muriel Lewis to the stand." Mike walks over to the defense table and confers with Judy.

ACT 2

In the courtroom, Muriel Lewis is questioned by Mike Karr. She apologizes for being late. Muriel is a chambermaid who lives at 2749 Cannondale Avenue with her mother, and works at the Royal Towers hotel. Mike questions her as to the duties of a chambermaid. Austin Johnson objects to the line of questioning. The judge rules for Mike. Ms. Lewis answers the question. Mike then tries to pin point the number times per day that a chambermaid goes in and out of the rooms in which she's working. The witness then explains about the "strange" thing that happened with her uniform. Someone claiming to be a new housekeeper's assistant came to Muriel in the locker room and said that she was replacing the maids' worn uniforms with fresh ones. Ms. Lewis continues that after she gave the stranger her own uniform, the lady never came back. Mike tries to get Muriel to remember the date that this happened. She can't remember the exact date, but with help from Mike, she says that it happened before the day that Victor Carlson was murdered at the hotel. Muriel Lewis is excused from the stand without the prosecution cross-examining. Mike calls his next witness...Frank Smith. Austin Johnson gets very upset.

Harry Kramer: We will continue with our story in just a moment.

ACT 3

In the courtroom, Mike questions Frank Smith, the maintenance engineer at the Royal Towers. Smith was at work down the hall about six feet from the honeymoon suite the night of the Carlson murder. Smith previously testified that he saw no one enter or leave the honeymoon suite except Noah Dewey, the waiter. Mike asks if Smith would now like to change any or all of his testimony. Smith says, "No, why should I?"

ACT 4

In the courtroom, Mike and Smith continue to argue about whether Smith will change his testimony. Smith then says that if Karr would ask the right questions, then he might get the right answers. The judge, Mike, and the DA argue about what is transpiring. Mike then tells them that he realizes what is happening. Smith is upset with Mike due to his previous questioning. Smith tells the judge that if Mr. Karr would ask the question differently, then he'll get a different answer. Mike then asks if Smith saw another employee other than Noah Dewey enter or leave the honeymoon suite. To that, Smith answers "yes".

Harry Kramer: Our story continues after this message.

ACT 6

In the courtroom, Johnson makes a mockery out of Smith. Johnson points out to the court that Smith came to change his testimony only after Ed Gibson put it in his mind that another employee was seen at the murder site. Johnson finally tells Smith, "You could not see your hand in front of your face on a clear day with a large magnifying glass." Mike smiles...
