ACT 1

At the Whitney mansion, Geraldine, Mike, Nancy, Cookie, Ron Christopher, Vic Lamont, Laurie Karr, Colin Whitney, and Tiffany Whitney all talk and share pleasantries at a dinner party. Geraldine says that Gordon will not be able to attend the party, as he was called away on business. Cookie is obviously upset to be at the party. She excuses herself to go to the powder room, and Tiffany follows her.

ACT 2--Scene 1

Geraldine talks to Nancy, Mike, and Winston about Colin's nomination. Nancy mentions that Laurie has a crush on Colin. She also mentions that Laurie has a crush on Geraldine's other son Keith, even though the two have never met. Geraldine mentions that Keith would not be able to attend the party because of the injuries he sustained in a recent car accident.

Scene 2

Laurie, Vic, Mr. Neil Davenport, and Mr. Byfield talk about the election. Laurie asks Davenport if Keith will be there, and he says no.

Scene 3

Colin talks to Marty, a political ally, and to Ron. Tiffany and Cookie return. Cookie acts strange. She says that she doesn't like parties very much. Ron eyes Tiffany.

ACT 3--Scene 1

Mike and Nancy walk out to the patio to talk to Winston. They say it's a shame that Mattie can't be there, since she's at her sister's in Chicago. They all talk about Cookie's strange behavior.

Scene 2

Liz Hillyer and Dr. Jim Fields arrive at the party. Liz tells Geraldine that Orin is living abroad now. Geraldine introduces them to Dr. Charles Weldon, her brother. Charles, Liz, and Jim talk about the Whitney family. Jim says that he knows Keith from the service...the medical corps.

ACT 4--Scene 1

On the Whitney patio, Ron, Cookie, and Tiffany talk. Geraldine enters and wants to introduce Ron to Charles Weldon. Tiffany and Cookie talk, and Cookie acts very strange and anti-social. Tiffany leaves, and Nancy joins her sister. They talk about how attractive Tiffany is. Coookie says that she doesn't like Tiffany, because Tiffany reminds her of Pamela Stewart and Stephanie Martin...the woman who tried to take her husband from her. Nancy reminds Cookie that this is not true. It was a mistaken impression on Cookie's part.

Scene 2

In the foyer, Laurie and Colin finish dancing. He is about to take the young woman out to the pation when Tiffany calls him over to meet one of Gordon's friends. Laurie shows jealousy...

ACT 5

Laurie walks around the patio admiring the grounds, when a bandaged man walks up to her. Laurie realizes that it is Keith Whitney, and she introduces herself. Keith grabs her and tries to kiss her. Laurie gets away, goes into the house, stands by the staircase, and ponders the situation...
