Add one Scooby Gang and Stir - Prolog

Disclaimer: This is of course unauthorized fan fiction, and I own none of either (A) Buffy Summers, Xander Harris, Willow Rosenberg, Cordelia Chase, Rupert Giles, Oz, Faith, Mister Trick, and Mayor Richard Wilkins, who belong to Joss Whedon, mutant enemy or the WB, or (B) Prue Halliwell, Piper Halliwell, Phoebe Halliwell, Andy Trudeau, Inspector Morris, Buckland and anyone else I throw in from 'Charmed,' who belong to Spelling productions or the WB! :oD

Author's note: This is a Buffy-Charmed crossover. Takes place between "The Wedding from Hell" and "The fourth Sister" in 'Charmed' terms, and between "Lover's Walk" and "The Wish" in 'Buffy' terms.

"San Francisco sixty miles," Buffy said, peering out the bus window at the road sign. "We're almost there, huh?" There was no response, so Buffy nudged the girl sitting next to her with an elbow.

"Huh?" Willow replied.

"We're only about an hour away from San Fran," Buffy summarized. "Pretty cool, huh?"

"No," Willow muttered. "I mean, yes, it's cool in its own way. I was just... um, thinkin', you know?"

"Xander or Oz?" Buffy asked, a half-smile creeping to her face as the bus left scenery behind.

"Buffy!" Willow's voice was shocked. "Oz, of course. Xander and-and I, we - we aren't..."

"Aren't going for it just because you've been dumped by your significant others," Buffy finished.

"Uh, yeah, I guess so."

Buffy considered. "That's cool, I guess. But don't go trying to get Oz back just *because* he dumped you," she added warningly. "You've been given a chance to figure out what you really want... you should do it."

Willow pondered this for a moment. "Yeah, you're right. I will."

"Oh, and one other piece of advice?" Buffy added. Willow nodded expectantly. "Lighten up a bit! Between you and Xander sulking around, and Cordy and Oz doing the whole betrayed bit..." she broke off. "It's just been a bit much lately, you know what I mean?"

"Oh, and you're one to talk," Willow chided her friend. "You've done your own share of the depressed thing, ever since you broke up with Angel."

"Yeah, I know," Buffy conceded. "But I'm taking my own advice. We're here, miles from home, with four days and three nights ahead of us in exciting San Francisco, and I for one am gonna revel in it. Now I know," she held up a hand at this point as if to forestall an objection from Willow, "that I have the advantage of literally putting my own guy problems behind me, but come on, Will. Do the happy thing with me!"

Willow grinned and possibly even giggled once. "Okay, Buffy. I'll try."

(Meanwhile, at the Halliwell house...)

Prue and Piper Halliwell stalked into the kitchen from different directions and grabbed for the last muffin at the same time. Piper got it.

"Ha!" she chuckled to herself, grabbed a knife and saucer and sat down at the table.

"Hey, that's not fair, Piper," Prue complained. "You work at a restaurant; you can grab something to eat there. I'm hungry and I've got to be on my way already."

"Okay, okay, I've got time to make toast before I go," Piper said, handing over the muffin. Prue headed off, walking past Phoebe as she left the kitchen.

"What's bugging Prue?" Phoebe asked Piper as she poured herself coffee.

Piper arranged herself with her toast at the table again. "Oh, she's got to go back to the museum - keeping an eye on some art objects Mister Buckland is having displayed in an educational exhibit or something," Piper reported.

"And she's worried about having to deal with Roger again?" Roger was Prue's ex-fiancee, and at one time, her supervisor at the museum. A total jerk, as Phoebe knew from personal experience...

"Maybe," Piper muttered. "I don't know."

"Okay," Phoebe said. "How about you - how are things going at Quake?"

"Aside from totally crazy and stressful, not too bad," Piper said, and chuckled. "We're still short on waitresses - any chance you could lend a hand? Earn a few bucks?"

"Umm?" Phoebe considered for a moment. "Maybe. Okay, sure. Just remember, I'm not a real waitress."

"Thanks." Piper finished her toast, stood up, smiled at her sister and squeezed her arm briefly in a friendly gesture, and headed out. Phoebe smiled, and then suddenly recoiled in horror as a vision flashed before her eyes.

The vision was of a man, a gaudily dressed young black man, putting a knife to the throat of a woman with shoulder-length brown hair!
