"It's moving!" Prue called out suddenly, looking at the compass. "I mean it's stopping or- it's pointing," she finally settled on. "Let's go."

"Potions," Piper said as she handed each of her sisters a narrow bottle. "Just throw one on a Knight and he'll dematerialize, unable to return for four weeks at least.

"Say," Phoebe muttered as they ran out to the van. "What if they come after us once the four weeks are up?"

"One problem at a time, Phoebe..." Prue reminded her.

(Back in the park again.)

"Stay back, guys," Buffy called out as the Dark Knights advanced. Weighing the baseball bat in her hand carefully, she waited as the lead Knight approached, and swung out, aiming for its sword arm. The dark warrior countered, though, moving his broadsword so that the bat landed on it. Metal bit into wood, and the Knight jerked his weapon up, trying to wrest the bat out of Buffy's hands, but she held onto it, wrenching it free.

Two of the Knights moved around to flank her while the lead stood his ground and the fourth hung back. Buffy was quickly becoming surrounded, and she knew she had to break out of this encirclement quickly. She whirled on the right Knight, feinting at his right shoulder with the bat but bending down and giving it a body-block to the left midsection. It staggered backwards and Buffy struck out for more open territory.

Too quickly, though, the fourth Knight was upon her. Buffy stood her ground, parried, and tried to grab the knight's sword arm with her free hand, but it kept the limb out of her reach, menacing her fingers with the sharp blade.

The Knight swung again, and she parried, but her momentum had been lost. Too soon he'd outmaneuver her and... A bright light flashed behind her head, and the Knight seemed momentarily dazed. "Take him, Buffy!" Willow called out, and Buffy realized that she'd cast a spell to distract her opponent. She swung hard with the bat, connecting first on the head, staggering the Knight, and then on the knee, causing the mystic enemy to cry out in pain and collapse.

Gauntleted hands grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her back. A quick turn of the head revealed that there was one Knight on each side of her, and their grips were like steel. A broadsword was swung into the space in front of her, orienting on her throat.

"Ha!" Xander flew into the right Knight, the one who had been about to cut off Buffy's head, in a brave attempt at a flying tackle. Unfortunately, the Knight had too much mass to be swayed, and it knocked the teenager away with a negligent brush of his sword arm. Suddenly, that Knight pitched forward, as Oz pulled a foot out from under him from behind, capitalizing on Xander's distraction.

But try as she might, Buffy couldn't free herself from the grip of Knight to her left, and the fourth one was standing in front of her, making ready for the death stroke...

And flew back into a nearby tree, as if his body had been picked up and thrown by the hand of an invisible giant. Buffy turned around, trying to see what had saved her. Three beautiful dark-haired young women were off to one side, apparently having just pulled up in a van and gotten out. Two of them were running towards her, the other was still looking over in the direction of the tree.

The Knights were orienting on the newcomers, too. Another of the girls pointed with her hands... and suddenly everything was different. The dark-haired girls were standing in different places, two of the Knights, including the one that had been holding her, were shrivelling into mist. As the Slayer watched, the new girls threw milky liquid from narrow bottles on the remaining Knights, causing them to shrivel up too.

"Okay," Buffy called out. "Who are you and what's going on?"

"Um?" The one who had gestured, whose hair was straight and shoulder-length, considered cagily. "No-one you need to be worried about - just a friend."

"Oh, really?" Buffy wasn't impressed. "A friend would give me straight answers to a straight question, now wouldn't she?"

"Are you witches?" Willow asked. All three new girls jumped with surprise.

"What, uh," the looker (that is, the one Buffy figured had knocked the Knight into a tree by looking at him,) said. "What makes you think that?"

"Hmm, let's see," Willow said. "You froze my friends and those dark Knight guys, threw potions on the bad guys that made them dematerialize. Sounds like witchcraft to me."

"Froze?" the gesturer said... "You mean you could... yeah, you weren't frozen, were you? You were looking around, confused. Which means... you're a witch too!" she finished triumphantly. "Oh, wait a second... your friends aren't. Do they know?" Her face was pursed in concern.

"Uh, yeah," Buffy assured her. "We know. So, witches, huh? Well, thanks for the help." Buffy turned to check on Xander and Oz, and something in her shoulder complained. Despite Buffy's intentions, a moan of pain escaped her lips.

"Hey, you're hurt!" the third new girl said. "Come with us, we'll get you all fixed up. I'm Phoebe Halliwell, and these are my sisters Piper and Prue."

"Buffy Summers," Buffy said. "The witch is Willow Rosenberg; and the guys are Xander and Oz."

"Nice to meet you." Phoebe reached out to shake her hand, then made a short gasp as her eyes fluttered closed for a second. "Whoa! Does guys exploding into dust mean anything to you?"

Oz and Xander laughed.

(In the van on the way to the Halliwell's.)

"Okay, so let me get this straight," Phoebe said. "You're a Vampire Slayer, but you kill demons and fight the odd evil witch too?"

"Yep," Buffy said, nodding.

"And you're a witch, he's a werewolf and the other guy is?"

"Xander? Just a regular teenage guy," Willow said.

"You work at Quake, don't you?" Xander said to Piper. "We saw you guys there."

"Really? And what were you doing at Quake?" Piper asked him. Xander blushed with spot embarassment.

Two cars back, Trick tailed them again. "Well, that was the time-stop back there," he muttered, "I'm sure of it. And from what I could see, it was that gesture that started it. So I know who it is, and I need to think how I can get her blood without her freezing me again!"
