Add one Scooby Gang and Stir - Epilog

by Chris Kenworthy (scoobyhq@fcmail.com)

Author's Note: This is really part epilog, part lead-in to the second Destinies Lost story, Split Second Chances, which is all-Buffy. You'll see what I mean.

Disclaimer: I can't come up with any more interesting disclaimers. Sorry. I don't own nothin'.

Buffy and Faith walked into the library half an hour later to find, to the surprise of neither of them, Giles hovering behind his desk and Xander crashed into one of the chairs around the table, hardly moving. "Where are Willow and Oz?" Buffy asked.

"Somewhere around," Xander said, a serious expression crossing his face. "I'm not quite sure where.

"I've called Mrs. Gavinec in San Fransisco," Giles told Buffy solemnly.

"Oh, yeah, we took off outta there pretty quick, didn't we?" Buffy remembered. "Did you..."

"I told her that you received news suddenly of a family crisis, that you had to get back to Sunnydale immediately, and that you were so distraught that the others came with you out of concern." Giles smiled at her. "But you're going to have to be the one to tell your mother that she's your alibi."

"Oh, man!" Buffy's face fell.

"So, Xander," Faith said, walking over to the table. "Buffy tells me you were drooling over that witch Piper. Is your heart going back with her to San Fransisco?" She grinned teasingly at him.

Xander just shook his head. "Uh, no. That was just, you know, pleasant diversion. But Piper, her story about that ghost that she's in love with, it showed me something. Love is where you find it. And I think that I've found it; that I've kept myself from seeing it because it was the last person I ever expected to love..."

The library door opened again. "Ah, speak of the angel," Xander quipped, looking over at the person coming up from behind the two Slayers. "I know we said that it wasn't love between us; just clothes and flukes and hormonal attraction. But I'm not sure anymore. So..." he stumbled over the words. "I guess I'm saying that we should find out if we really have something as a couple. So... will you go with me to the Movie Masquerade dance, as my date?"

Willow opened her mouth, but nothing came out the first time. The second, "Xander!"

"What?" The look on Xander Harris' face clearly showed his disappointment at the reaction, obviously not what he had expected.

"I... we just..." Just then, Willow was interrupted by Oz also passing through the library doors, holding a bouquet of flowers that had apparently been stolen from the school garden.

"You what?" Xander asked densely.

"Oz... just took me back," Willow explained finally.

"Uh-oh." Xander's face fell further. "So... that thing I just said... probably wasn't said at a very good time, huh?"

"Yeah!!" Willow vented at her best friend.
