ADMINISTRIVIA ---------------------------------------------------------- 1. THE TELEVISION SHOW 1.1 What is "The Powerpuff Girls"? The Powerpuff Girls (referred herein as "PpG") was created by Craig McCracken. The original Powerpuff Girls cartoon was a student film called "Whoop-Ass Stew" when Craig was a student at the California Institute for the Arts (Cal Arts). Later on, Craig made two episodes ("Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins" and "Crime 101") which originally appeared as 'World Premiere Toons' on Cartoon Network and were later featured on their 'What A Cartoon' show. 1.2 Where and when can I watch the "Powerpuff Girls"? As of December 2, 1998, PpG is airing on Cartoon Network (United States). It runs on both the Eastern and Pacific time zone feeds at the following times: Wednesday at 8PM ET/PT, Wednesday at 11PM ET/PT, Friday at 9PM ET/PT, Saturday at 11AM ET/PT and Sunday at 11PM ET/PT. 1.3 What is the status of the show on the Cartoon Networks outside the United States? The show is airing in Australia on Cartoon Network on Sundays at 9:30AM and 6:00PM local time in Sydney. The show is not yet on the programming grids for Cartoon Network Europe or Latin America. 1.4 What was Craig's Mc Cracken's Powerpuff Girl student film about? The girls were created when a can of "Whoop Ass" was added to sugar, spice and everything nice. 1.5 When did the series start? The first episodes "Monkey See, Doggy Do" and "Mommy Fearest" aired on November 18, 1998. 1.6 I heard there was a last minute change in the premiere episodes. The premiere episodes were going to be "Insect Inside" and "Powerpuff Bluff", but a last minute decision was made to change the premiere episodes to "Monkey See, Doggy Do" and "Mommy Fearest". Knows where to find giant jars. [Insect Inside] Not into nightlife. [Boogie Frights] Knows magic. [Abracadaver] 2.2 Bubbles Bubbles wears a baby blue colored dress. She is the PpG who cries the most but is also is the one who has the most fun. She has blonde hair in pigtails and is obsessed with washing, conditioning and brushing her hair [Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins]. The plays with an octopus doll [Crime 101] which she named 'Octi'[Octi Evil]. Acts as a father figure for the girls. He's single [Mommy Fearest]. Smokes a pipe in 'Monkey See Doggy Do'. Feels that cockroaches will rule in the post-nuclear age. [Insect Inside] 2.5 The Mayor In the two original shorts ("Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins" and "Crime 101"), the mayor had a clear voice and looked a lot like Tip O'Neill and wears a ribbon (similar to a state fair blue ribbon) with the word "MAYOR" on it. In the series, the mayor is much shorter, wears a spectacle and has a sash (similar to those used in beauty pagaents) with the word "MAYOR" on it. The mayor in the series has a serious speech impediment. The new mayor looks a lot like the former McDonaldland character "Mayor McCheese". The mayor seems to put up with anything the girls do, even if they destroy his office [Octi Evil] but not when they break out of jail [Powerpuff Bluff]. Loves to be tickled by Bubbles when turned into a dog [Monkey See Doggy Do]. Talks in his sleep [Mommy Fearest]. Wore a spectacle as early as 5 years old. [Abracadaver] 2.6 Sara Bellum Sara Bellum (or "Miss Bellum") is the mayor's personal assistant (and does all of the thinking for the mayor). We have not seen a face or even a head on Sara. The only times we have seen a head was when she was turned into a dog in 'Monkey See Doggy Do' and when her head was all bandaged up in 'Tough Love'. 2.7 Miss Kane Miss Kane is the teacher at Pokey Oaks Kindergarten. She has a cow if the girls try to leave to save the world without being excused first. She can dish out a killer jump-rope [Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins]. 3. Fuzzy Lumpkins A heavy-set character who is pinkish/red and wears blue coveralls. He turns Townsville into meat in 'Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins'. Chases people and squirrels off his property in 'Fuzzy Logic'. Gangrene Gang Five of the ugliest thugs you have ever seen. Ace is the leader of the gang, smooth talker and a big romantic. Little Arturo is a short guy with hair covering one of his eyes. Big Billy is very fat, has orange hair and a buck tooth. Grubba has his eyeballs coming out of his sockets and has a vocabulary limited to doing rasberrys with his tongue and making prank calls. Snake is a tall skinny guy with a pointed tongue and a voice that ssss's like a snake. Buttercup has a crush on Ace in "Buttercrush". Him A person so low, we only refer to him as Him. In 'Octi Evil', influenced Bubbles by communicating with her through her toy octopus, Octi. Obsessed with excercise [Telephonies]. Sedusa (aka Ima Goodlady) In 'Mommy Fearest' under the guise of Ima Goodlady, won her way into the Professor's heart and home only in an effort to "ground" the PpG in order to steal the Mayor's jewels. As Sedusa, has hair capable of grabbing things. Refers to the girls as "bug-eyed creeps". Snake Beast A three headed beast who was defeated and used as a giant jump-rope in 'Octi Evil'. Swami Salami Character seen in 'Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins' who charms salamis like snakes. Turtle Beast A half shelled beast from 'Octi Evil' sent by Him to try to defeat the quarreling Powerpuff Girls. 4. QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SHOW 4.1 What is the name of the city the show is set in? Townsville USA. I have yet to figure if it is inspired or based on a real city. Like most modern cartoons, I will guess Los Angeles. Comments on 'Girltalk' suggest the community is based on a mid- western community. In 'Octi Evil' we see a bridge crossing a river into town from where the Powerpuff Girls live. One reader commented that Townsville looked similar to New York. 4.2 Have there been any Los Angeles references in the show so far? In "Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins", the girls rescue a talking dog from car in front of "Malphs" market. (There is a chain of supermarkets called "Ralphs'" which has an oval shaped sign similar to the one in the episode). In "Octi-Evil", Bubbles quotes the famous statement Rodney King made during the L.A. riots, "Why can't we all just get along". 4.3 Where were the Powerpuff Girls born? The girls are Townsville natives. They were born in Professor Utonium's lab as a botched experiment. 4.4 What do the Powerpuff Girls do? Save the world. If you ask them, they will respond Blossom: We fight crime. Buttercup: That's what we do. Bubbles: Duh! 4.5 Do the girls go to school? Yes. They attend the Pokey Oaks kindergarten. 4.6 What are the vitals on the girls? Since they are going to kindergarten, that would make them 5 years old. Since they emerged at the same time, they should be considered triplets. They are around 42 inches tall [Crime 101]. 4.7 The promos state "Saving the world before bedtime", when exactly is bedtime? 7:00 PM [Mommy Fearest]. 4.8 What TV shows are on the air in Townsville? The Channel 5 News. (KTLA??) The Puppet Pals [Mommy Fearest] 4.9 What is the "Hotline Phone"? This is a toy telephone which is located in the girl's bedroom. There are also hotline phones at Pokey Oaks and at the Mayor's office. When the phone rings, the nose of the phone (the phone has a female face on it) lights up red. The concept of the hotline phone is similar to the "bat phone" from the 60's "Batman" live action series. The Hotline Phone looks like a toy phone made by Fisher Price which has moving eyes. Phone can make different facial expressions [Tough Love] 4.10 What have the Powerpuff Girls destroyed so far? Dome of the Townsville Observatory [Monkey See, Doggy Do] Extensive Damage to the Townsville Museum [Monkey See, Doggy Do] The front door of their own house [Monkey See, Doggy Do] The roof of Pokey Oaks [Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins] Potholes [various episodes] Vault of Townsville Bank ripped off hinges and thrown through wall [Crime 101] The Mayor's one-of-a-kind priceless porcelain poodle dropped by Bubbles [Powerpuff Bluff] Broke out of prison [Powerpuff Bluff] Floor of office building due to Buttercup hurling snake beast [Octi Evil] The office of the mayor by Buttercup hurling snake beast [Octi Evil] The Townsville water tower [Octi Evil] A senior citizen on her three-wheel scooter [Octi Evil] Fuzzy Lumpkin's banjo named "Jo" [Fuzzy Logic] Giant disco ball blocking the sun [Boogie Frights] 4.11 Is there truth to the rumor that condoms were mentioned in an episode? In 'Mommy Fearest' while preparing the professor for this big date, Buttercup places an unknown item in the professor's pocket and says "don't forget these". Many followers of the show state that B'cup is putting condoms in his pocket. 4.12 Is the Powerpuff Girls a rip-off of the Spice Girls as suggested in 'Entertainment Weekly'? That would not be possible since the original Powerpuff Girls shorts (as well as Craig's student films) came out years for the Spice Girls. 4.13 I keep hearing about these "Powerpuff Boys", wasn't that 'Powerpuff Bluff'? No. There is a full-length (meaning 30 minutes with commercials) episode being made called "Rowdy Ruff Boys". It is believed that the Rowdy Ruff Boys are three Powerpuff-looking characters you see in the background in the opening during the "collage of thugs" where the camera first pans across and you see all of the Girl's enemies. 5. POWERPUFF MERCHANDISE 6.1 Has there been any licensed merchandise made for the Powerpuff Girls? A limited edition of the Jerry Nadeau NASCAR Powerpuff 9 1/24 scale die-cast car manufactured by Action. Only 2508 were made. 6.2 What promotional items are out there? So far we have seen buttons and coasters given out internally within Time Warner.
