Mark Harmon graduated cum laude from UCLA in 1974 with a Bachelor degree in Communications. As a college student, he played quarterback for the UCLA Bruins football team in 1972 and 1973 and was honored with the National Football Foundation Award for all-round excellence.
He made his film debut in Alan J. Pakula's movie Comes a Horseman in 1978.
His movie credits incluse films like The Presidio (with Sean Connery), Stealing Home (one of Mark's favourites), Wyatt Earp and Magic over the Water.
There are two tv-series in which he played "outstanding characters": in Reasonable Doubts (with Marlin Matlee) and in St. Elsewhere. (see Mark's filmography for detailed information).
His made-for-tv-movies include i.e. Dillinger, Sweet Birth of Youth and Long Road Home.
He also starred in Tom Hank's mini series: From the Earth to the Moon.
Mark Harmon's wife Pam Dawber starred in the tv-series Mork and Mindy (with Robin Williams). Mark stated in an interview that it's sometimes nerve-wrecking when people say: "Oh yes, Mark and Mindy" - thinking that it's funny which it isn't in his opinion.
Mark Harmon became a "hero" when he saved two kids from a burning car, using a sledge hammer to break the windows and pull the teenagers out of it.
