Born in Cincinnati Rocky's acting talent became apparent at a
young age. After graduating from the Cincinnati High School of
Dramatic and Performing Arts, he attended Webster University
Conservatory in Missouri which led to his acting career in New York.
He spent six years working on and off Broadway before moving to Los
Angeles and appearing in the tv-series "Roc"
Rocky Carroll was nominated for both a Tony Award and a Helen Hayes
Award for Outstanding Actor for his critically acclaimed performance
in August Wilson's The Piano Lesson, a role he created at the
Yale Repertory Theatre.
Rocky Carroll moved to Los Angeles when he was offered to play Joey
the gambling, womanizing, never-do-well musician on the critically
acclaimed television series "Roc".
After Roc was cancelled, Rocky Carroll was personally pursued
by Michael Crichton for a new medical drama titled ER.
However, Rocky turned him down in order to concentrate on feature
films.
He drew rave reviews for his performance as Lieutenant Westerguard in
Crimson Tide and he also appeared in The Great White
Hype with Chicago Hope co-star Peter Berg. His other
feature films include Born on the Fourth of July, Prelude
to a Kiss, Talk Radio and The Chase.
Rocky Carroll was lured back to television by Leslie Moonves, the
president of the CBS network, who asked him to join Chicago
Hope which Rocky quickly accepted.
