Aaron Shutt Character Bios

Aaron Shutt is a neurosurgeon who becomes a patient when he is stricken by an aneurysm. Forced to change his life, after discovering that he is unable to operate anymore, he starts all over again as a resident in the psychiatry. Here he is confronted at first with a "boss" who is younger then he, arrogant and eager to "let Aaron have it" (always comparing him with his father who also was a neurosurgeon and who wanted his son to become one too).
It takes time before Aaron has his first breakthrough, but after some time he is getting to like it.
Although he often walks on a thin line when his personal feelings getting involved, obscuring his objectivity.

Forced to help out in the emergency room to save a patient's life shows him that he can hold a scalpel again. He returns to the operating room but with a different kind of view. Now he is able to combine brilliance as a surgeon with a knowledge of the complex personality issues, seeing beyond the patient.

His private life is not so satisfying at first. The marriage with Camille fails, although they try again, his relationship with Karen Wilder is short-lived. That changes when he falls in love with Gina. After some time he is even able to reveal the relationship in front of his colleagues. This relationship becomes a stabilizing element in his live.

His best friend is Jeffrey, although this friendship is often tested and has its ups and downs, both men love each other in a way outsiders can barely understand. After Jeffrey left Chicago Hope they don't meet this often but Jeffrey's return brings them back together again. Their friendship has developed in positive way, it is more mature, both men have changed in time. There are some touching moments when Jeffrey reassures Aaron that he will be the first to be notified when he decides to jump of a building.

Aaron is confronted with his mother's past in a rude way. One day a strange man comes in his office and opens up to an unbelieving Aaron that he is his father. A telephone call with his mother affirms it and suddenly Aaron's so known world turns upside down.
