Shallow Grave

No Return
              2. Choosing A Flatmate
What would you look for in a prospective flatmate ?
What questions would you ask if you were the owner of the flat ?
Role-play
In pairs, imagine that one of you is interviewing the other about a room in their flat.
Ask questions about the price, living arrangements, etc. until you come to a decision.
First Interview
A. Put the following questions according to the order you think they occur in the film :
  • Yes. It is, isn't it? We all like it. And the room's nice too, don't you think?
  • And you like it?
  • What on earth could make you think that we would want to share a flat like this with someone like you?
  • Well, Cameron, are you comfortable?
  • So tell me, Cameron, what on earth -- just tell me, because I want to know
  • Spacious, quiet, bright, well appointed, all that sort of stuff, all that crap.
  • Good. Well, you've seen the flat?
Now watch the video to check your answers

B. Underline the differences in this version of Alex’s criticism of Cameron with the video :

I mean, my first idea, and they're rarely wrong, is that you have none of the things that we would normally seek in a prospective flatmate. I'm talking here about things like presence, character style and charm, and I don't think we're being unreasonable. Take David here, for instance: a merchant banker he may be, but at least he tries hard. The point is,I don't think you're even trying.

What is your opinion of the three flatmates ?

What kind of person do you think they're looking for?

Other Interviews

A. In the next section make notes about each character from what they say :
   DAVID      |      JULIET      |         ALEX
