My name is Paul Davis,
I’m 18 years old and I’m from London England. I’ve been a fan of The Exorcist
since the tender age of 9 and I still can not get over the significant
power that the movie contains. After a long period of movie watching, I
was reacquainted to The Exorcist through Mark Kermode’s first BFI Modern
Classics book. What really compelled me to research into this masterpiece
of a movie was the BBC documentary that Mark hosted. It opened a whole
new door to me, I knew that the ‘spider-walk’ had existed but to see it
was something special.
Since speaking
to Mark for the first time in November, I have began to try my luck with
journalism; writing several articles about The Exorcist and reviewing the
superb DVD released last year, I’ve spent hundreds of pounds on books and
magazines printed at the time of the film’s release, this page is a small
documentation of the research I have uncovered about this movie.
After the film’s
re-release last Halloween, I turned myself into a one-man pressure group,
mailing letters to the BBFC every day to have the film certified for a
video classification, and then on the morning of February 9th, I
got the phone call, "The Exorcist has been certified 18 uncut." This is
definitely the news of the year for me, and you can bet any money that
i'll be the first in the video shop on APRIL 22nd.
I hope that
this new, updated site is just as successful as the last, it was incredibly
popular and raked in over a thousand visitors in the little time it was
available, but I feel now that my comitment to the film has been well recognised
by those who visted other 'Exorcist' sites and e-mailed me regularly and
this site is the tribute I've always wanted. For all of you who require
my opinion or knowledge on The Exorcist, feel free to E-Mail
me at any time, reply's 100% guranteed. I'll leave you with the
EXCLUSIVE news that the search for missing footage to be restored to The
Exorcist is continuing. Producer William Peter Blatty has demanded that
the Warner vaults are to be searched thoroughly for the sound reels that
were missing from the footage that Mark Kermode uncovered last year. If
the footage is completly restored, director Billy Friedkin has agreed to
have an extended version of The Exorcist released in the USA at Halloween.
It will be a further 15-minutes longer containing the sight-seeing trip,
the first doctor's examination, the stairway conversation between Merrin
and Karras and MAYBE the Kinderman & Dyer ending. No spider-walk I'm
affraid. I will occasionally air news to either Bavard's page or Picard's
Pad, so stay tuned and look out for my name.
THANK
YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR ENTHUSIASM
