April 2000 Update on Ashley's diagnosis below.
Hi, remember us? I'm Chrissy, Rich is my husband, (his page can be linked to through links at the end) and our daughter is Ashley. My pictures are from last year & are a bit distorted(current photos can be linked to below). The last pic is Ashley's Christmas card from 1998. 99's is at Zing.com. My address is ChrissyJ68@aol.com in case it doesn't show up anywhere, Fortune City has a problem with e-mail links apparently.
For those of you who have visited before and are interested in an update on my daughter who will be 4 July 14, I have good news, finally. She has been attending school at an early intervention center for applied behavior analysis using the Discreet Trial Instruction program designed by Rutgers since August 30, 1999 We have also (prior to and since) removed all dairy, wheat/gluten, eggs and citrus from her diet and have given all the replacements that we could find that were reasonable (with a lot of research) and acceptable to her little taste buds and she has made tremendous progress. We also now have the added aide of a Pediatric Specialist for Autism and nutrition. The dietery intervention in children who were not born with autism but have developed the symptoms after about 1 year of normal development plays a very key role in the disorder. Parents Magazine, February 2000 issue (link below) clearly explains this if you can get into their archives or the most recent one is from "The Allergy Connection" at http://www.drlayton.com/autism/html If the page doesn't come up, go to the home page & search the site.
My daughter has finally, Wednesday, the 12th of April, said her first words. Very simple, very basic, "Hi, bye, go potty, Dada, bubble, I, and yes" There were some others she has been trying to say but we're not sure. This started when we removed orange juice which she craves and replaced it w/cranberry juice. Miracle. It may not sound like much to everyone who has children developing normally but she is now communicating and we heard her voice, a normal voice for the first time.

Please e-mail if anyone has or knows of any children with a speech/language delay and/or familiar with the term PDD/NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified) or Autistic Spectrum disorder or suspected food allergies or intolerances.
Ashley is no longer getting high fevers or recurring illnesses since we removed dairy (1st suspected intolerance) from her diet. Increased eye contact and willingness to learn since we removed wheat and gluten and the day we gave her cranberry juice instead of Orange juice is the day our lives changed and she started to try to talk to us, it took about a week for her to find her voice instead of her usual high pitched shrills. If anyone has anything to offer or needs information on this subject e-mail us or link to lots of other pages and more info.
