The Empire Strikes Back
Special Edition

This, heralded the 'greatest motion picture of all time' and my personal favourite of the trilogy had the least changes made to it. However, I must confess that when you watch it you will notice a lot of things you just cant pick out when watching the film on the small screen at home, such as the wonderful 'lit up' Star Destroyers and the amount of rebel space craft in the finale.

Although changes are minor, they really do add impact to the movie.

HOTH ICE CAVE Thanks largely to an actor in a suit [See Left], new live-action has been added to the scene inside the lair of the Wampa, the creature that attacks Luke while he's on a tauntaun. Before we saw very little of the creature ,and the new additions add suspense and make Luke's escape very dramatic. The Wampa is now seen eating carrion when Luke, hanging feet first from the cave ceiling awakens. New action shows the wampa approaching Luke as he retrieves his lightsaber and attempts to free himself.

The Falcon's landing on Bespin/Cloud City

BESPIN/CLOUD CITY Digitally added to the scene in which the Rebels aboard the Millennium Falcon first approach Cloud City are shots of the Falcon and intercepting cloud cars banking around a large structure and flying towards a landing platform. Also inserted is originally filmed footage of the Falcon's door dropping down after the ships lands. [See Left]

Additional shots of twin-pod cloud cars flying around Cloud City buildings are now included (They Look AMAZING!), as is a crowd shot of Cloud City citizens leaving listening to a public announcement by Lando.

A storyboard sketch of Vader's arrival to his shuttle

VADER'S SHUTTLE [See Left] Following Vader's appearance and confrontation with the Rebels, there's a new live-action scene of the Dark Lord walking to his shuttle. ..."Bring my Shuttle".... now becomes ..."Prepare my Star Destroyer for my arrival"... through a new voice-over, NOT provided by James Earl Jones but still sounds well.
A later CG enhancement shows Vader's shuttle as it approaches the Star Destroyer. Finally as the Falcon escapes from Bespin, a new shot of Vader's shuttle landing in his Star Destroyer's hanger bay has been inserted, with Vader exiting and walking towards Stormtroopers (this is an inverted shot from Return Of the Jedi).
