EMPIRE WEEKEND STAR WARS 20th ANNIVERSARY CLUB UK CONVENTION
October 11th-12th 1997

There was a Star Wars convention that took place in Central London. Guests included Gary Kurtz (Producer), Garrick Hagon (Biggs), Kenneth Colley (Piett), John Hollis (Lobot), Admiral Ozzel, Shelagh Fraser (Aunt Beru),Declan Mulholland (Original Jabba in ANH) and others...

The convention held a great question and answer with the guests where they mainly told of their memories and experiences in filming the Star Wars movies. In addition there was an autograph session, a slide show of behind the scenes production of the movies and on display were original props and costumes which included actual model Tie Fighters, masks of various 'Cantina' Aliens, Luke Skywalker's severed arm from ESB and more.(SEE BELOW)

There was collectable items to buy and rare tv footage to watch, including a GREAT demonstration of THX sound with a documentary of how sound is added to movies, there was original footage where you could hear David Prowse as the voice of Darth Vader prior to the addition of James Earl Jones' own.
Myself with Admiral Ozzel! Myself with Kenneth Colley aka Admiral Piett!

During the convention I didn't really find out any ground breaking news, I personally met all of the guests present. The bloke who took care of all the creature costume/outfit design in the trilogy was there, he expressed his concern for the future use of digital technology(that Lucas intends to use in the prequels), he stressed that computer generation will lose physical contact between actors/creatures in the films and will not look that effective. He vowed that he would never be involved in any CG work at all.. to which he was followed by a round of applause.
