Natural Muscle: You have been in America for 12 years. What brought you all the way from
Germany?
Matthias Hues: The Mayflower! Just kidding.
I owned a gym in Germany that was very
successful and all was going well. Until one
day I was sitting in the movie theater
watching an action movie and it hit me. That
was what I wanted to do. So, I gave the
keys to the gym to my friend, and with
$1,400. in my pocket, I got on a plane and
began to follow my dream.
N.M.: What was it like growing up in Germany?
M.H.: It was very safe, but strict. I grew up on a ranch with no TV. I had the best childhood a kid
could have. Schools are high pressure in Germany, with very high standards. Everyone is expected
to go from high school to college, to University. Dropping out is considered professional suicide. In
the U.S., even without college you can become a multimillionaire. That is hardly the case in
Germany.
N.M.: When did you start Kickboxing? Did you have a role model?
M.H.: I started when I was twelve. I didn't have a role model, because I felt that it leads to copying
someone else.
N.M.: Do you hit the gym on a regular basis.
M.H.: Oh yes! Five days a week. In the morning
I do weight training, two body parts, one big and
one small. In the evenings, I do cardio. I do
Kickboxing three times a week, along with
stretching.
N.M.: And your diet. It must take a lot of food to
keep a big guy like you going!
M.H.: I eat six times a day. I keep a diet high in
protein and low in carbs. On weekends I load. ( I
wonder if that means "pig out"?)
N.M.: Any supplements?
M.H.: None, except some protein shakes to keep my protein intake up.
N.M.: In all your travels as an actor, what was your favorite place?
M.H.: I would have to say Florida. I met Elizabeth.
N.M.: What are your plans for this year?
M.H.: I am working on a new TV series called Alienhunter. It is like Men In Black. By the way, I
play the GOOD GUY!!
