Bill Pullman, raised in Hornell, New York, was the youngest son of seven children. After graduation, Bill entered a technical institute in New York to study building construction. After an experience when a drama teacher cast him in a play, he decided to quit construction and transfer to the State University in New York, where he earned a B.A. in theatre arts. He continued on in the Universtiy of Massachusetts and then accpeted a position in the drama department at the Montana State University.

After 2 years, Bill moved to New York to pursue an acting career. He spent the next four years working around in theaters like the Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and the Folger Theater in Washington, D.C. Bill got good notices as an actor, especially opposite Kathy Bates in the off-Broadway revival of Sam Shepard's "Curse of the Starving Class".

In LA, Bill went to movie auditions, looking for a source of income. His major break happened in 1986, in the comedy "Ruthless People". Since then, he has appeared in over 20 films including some major blockbusters such as Independance Day.

He now lives in California in a house which he built by himself which he shares with his wife, Tamara and their three kids. In 1995, founded his own producing company, Big Town. He will be playing both as an actor and a co-producer on two upcoming feature films, Supertanker and The September Alternate. Pullman recently finished his production on the World War II drama The Thin Red Line [which got about 7 oscar nominations!!] and is finishing touches on the movie Brokedown Palace, with Claire Danes.
