Life without humor; is death.

“Come on you guys, your suppose to watch my back here!” Vin looked around
nervously at his
supposed friends’.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Tanner, but I would rather face down a hoard of killer
outlaws or General
Grant’s army, before I tangle with those irrate young ladies.” Ezra
glanced at the stricken tracker
in sympathy.
“Oh yeah. Well you just wait until them ladies come after your purty
coat and then see if I help
you.” The bounty hunter glared at the gambler and then turned to Josiah
and Nathan. “Come on,
you boys are the saviors of this group. Help me out here.”
Sanchez sighed, “I too am sorry, Brother Tanner. But there are some
things in this world a soul
must face alone.”
“Josiah’s right. ‘Sides, you know anytime they torture or hurt you,
I’m there for ya.” The healer
sipped at his beer and watched the defeated look entering the young
man’s eyes.
“I wish one time, them females would get a hold of you. Then you’d know
what I’m going
through right now. You know how hard it was to escape from them the
other day. It was pure
luck when they got distracted by my leaning. Now. NOW, there out there
in the street calling me
out.” Vin paced up and down beside the bar giving quick glances to
the batwing doors, afraid the bandits
would rush him.
“Vin, I hate to say this, but your acting like a big chicken.” J.D.
was standing at the end of the
bar with Buck.
Tanner stopped and gave the teen a deadly glare. “I’d watch what I said,
kid. Remember what
Carolyn did to ya in Penance. I’m sure I could drop a hint or two.”
J.D. visibly paled at the words. “You wouldn’t.”
The bounty hunter let a sly grin crease his face.
“Don’t worry about it, J.D. Vin’s just scared about what them ladies
got in mind once they get
their hands on his coat. Me, I wouldn’t mind going a round or two with
them, myself.” Wilmington was
perched on the bar and smiling deviously.
“Well, I would be careful, Buck. These ain’t your typical women. Instead
of female’s lib, they’ve
got writer’s lib.” Chris pushed his hat back and eyed his oldest friend.
He sometimes worried the
boy couldn’t think above his waist. “I’ll watch your back, cowboy.”
Larabee turned a cold gaze
to his friend. “Theres a few of them out there I need to payback. Especially,
the ones’ that blew
me up.”
Tanner smiled when he remembered the gunslinger’s unfortunate ‘incident’
with the dynamite.
“Maggie and Cassie did get a little carried away. At least they didn’t
kill you off and then bring
you back.” The tracker grimaced as the memory came flooding back.
“Buck, you okay?” The youth noticed the ghostly shade of his friend.
“Yeah, kid, I just remembered something. Forget what I said earlier.
Your on your own.” Buck held his
hands out in front of him as if Vin held some kind of curse.
Vin turned to tell his ‘friend’ a thing or two, when a voice from outside
caused all seven to
flinch.

“Alright, Vin Tanner. We’ve given you long enough. Are you gonna come
out peaceable like or
are we gonna have to come in after ya. And don’t get any ideas about
LEANing, we’re ready this
time.” Maggie turned to her partners’ around her. Cassie was to her
right with Penny and Jo.
Katie was on her left with Carolyn and Judy. Then behind her was Kim
and Nancy. They were
ready alright.
“Maggs, you won’t hurt Buck will ya?” Cass turned pleading eyes to her best friend.
“I thought you liked it when Buck got hurt?”
“I do, but I’d rather see J.D. hurt and Buck racked with the mental
anguish.” Cassidy bounced as
a scene popped into her head. “That gives me a great idea for my story.”
“Are you gonna at least let J.D. wake up first?” Margarett quirked an eyebrow at the blond.
“Funny!”
“Don’t worry, Cass. You can keep J.D. unconscious as long as you want.”
Carolyn gave Cassie a
mischievious grin. “It works for me.”
“Well, right now the only thing I care about is that coat. After we
get it, then we’ll worry about
what we do to them.” Maniacal Maggs strikes again.
“Uh oh, looks like he’s not coming out alone.” Kim whispered as she
noticed the black-clad
gunslinger beside the tracker.
“I thought Chris would know better, especially after what I did to him
in ‘Danger in the
Woods’.” Jo sighed heavily, knowing she was gonna have to teach that
boy another lesson.
“Alright ladies, lets try to settle this like adults.” Larabee walked
into the center of the street to
face the barrier of women.
“He really has no idea the power we hold, does he?” Katie, the all powerful
listom, glanced at
her children.
“Well, he is the leader. So, I guess he’s not suppose to show fear.”
Penny shrugged her shoulders
at the man’s sad attempt.
“I think you and Cassie should have let the cabin fall on him and gave
him some sense of
mortality.” Judy B. nodded her head to Maggie.
“We’ll definitely have to cure that in the Great Divide. What do you
think, Cass?” The blonde
turned a blank look to her friend.
“What?”
Maggie rolled her eyes. “O-Sappy-One is at it again, aren’t you? What now?”
Cassie put her hands on her hips and glared at her best friend. “I was
just planning the smarm
scene for Sins of the Father. Its not that easy to be sappy all the
time ya know.”
“Your right, Cass. Do you know how hard it is to make Vin so off his
rocker, and then have
Chris play the parent?” Nancy stopped and then thought about what she
said. “Oh yeah. You did
that in Deliver Us From Evil. Sorry.”
“Ours was definitely easier than yours. How do you do it? The great
detail, the awesome story,
we’re getting way off topic and their trying to get away.” Maggie redirected
the others attention
to the seven men sneaking toward the livery.
The nine women spread out across the street in gunfighters’ stance.
“Hold it, right there.”
The men stopped and turned slowly toward the threat.
“Now, ladies. Lets talk about this.” Buck glanced at the nine with his most charmed-filled smile.
Maggie felt Cassie and Penny starting to falter.
“Enough talk. Give up the coat or pay the consequences.” The women dropped
their hands to
their holsters’.
“Come on. What did I do? I thought you liked the coat.” Vin stepped
forward let a slow grin
cross his face.
“Uh oh. He’s trying the smile trick.” Judy glanced at Maggie for support.
“Keep your heads. The victory is almost ours.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m not giving up the coat. Do what you have to, but
I ain’t gonna do it.” The
bounty hunter saw the determined faces in front of him and knew he
was in deep trouble.
“We gave you a chance. Looks like we’ll just have to do this the old
fashioned way.” Katie and
Carolyn grinned at each other and wiggled their fingers.
The seven men spread out and faced the challenge. The seconds ticked
by until both sides
reached for their sidearms.
Each man gasped as they came up clutching air. Their weapons had disappeared.
“Don’t you boys know.” Maggie grinned evilly. “The pen is mightier than the sword.”
The women began laughing as they each held up a black ink pen.
“They’ll never learn.” Judy sighed as she saw the hide coat Maggie was holding.
Kim nodded to each of her cohorts. “Looks like she only has the shirt to go.”
Vin Tanner glanced down and saw that indeed his coat was gone. “Damn.”
