THE MILA MYSTIQUE
In her polyester and platforms, 16-year-old Mila Kunis plays the past perfectly as Jackie on That '70s Show. Of course we absolutely love her present-day personality. But we started wondering...what about the future? So we took her to a psychic and got to hear what's in store.
Mila arrives for her psychic reading stoked but a bit nervous. "I've never done this," she says, "Am I supposed to ask her stuff, or is she just going to talk?" Before I can answer, she continues, "I'll be like, 'What can you tell me?' and she'll say, 'You're gonna die in 24 hours!'"
I offer to let Mila go in alone and clue me in later on what the psychic said. But she insists, a little panic-stricken, that I go with her. Taking a deep breath, Mila turns the door handle slowly, and we enter a sparsely furnished psychic realm. A smallish woman -- surely someone's grandmother -- enters and takes a seat at the table with Mila. Then Mila tells the psychic she wants to know about her love life, and the woman says, "The answers don't come from me; they come through you." She instructs Mila to cut a deck of Russian tarot cards and have them face her heart...
Psychic: I'm calling upon the ancient spirits...
[deafening silence] Repeat after me.
Mila Kunis: Oh, sorry...I'm calling upon the ancient spirits.
P: All right. The issue here is love. Do you have someone that you're
interested in?
MK: [coyly] Maybe.
P: Okay, what's his name?
MK: [afraid the guy's name will make it to print] Um...
P: You don't have to say it. You can just think it.
The psychic takes the cards from Mila and lays them down, one by one. Each card has part of a picture on each of its four edges. The psychic searches for any complete pictures that are made when the cards are laid out. There's a corresponding number and position for each of the pictures, which she reads from a book.
The woman says Mila is going to live a long life, get married to a man when she's in her late '20s, have three children, and basically live happily ever after.
