AN : 2001
- PREVISIONS DE SORTIES :
Chez Magna Carta, après nous avoir promis monts et merveilles pour 2000, on est resté un peu sur notre faim. qu'à cela ne tienne, pour 2001, ils vont se rattraper. Au programme : Ice Age pour mars (Liberation) de même que l'arlésienne Leonardo (le super-projet de Trent gardner sur la vie de Leonard de Vinci ; casting : James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Josh Pincus (Ice Age), Mike Baker (Shadow Gallery), etc., etc.) ; pour avril, Robert Berry (Tempest) veut nous sortir la musique du jeu vidéo The wheels of time (d'après la saga fantasy de Robert Jordan) tandis que le trio expérimental Alexander / Manring / Skolnick rempile ; printemps-été, c'est au tour du second Explorer's Club (avec John Myung de Dream Theater à la place de Billy Sheehan), d'un attendu album de Magellan, d'un nouveau Tempest, d'un nouveau Shadow Gallery, d'un nouveau Caïro, et même d'un nouveau Mullmuzzler. Dave McKean aux illustrations et Terry Brown au mix seront abondamment sollicités. Jordan Rudess aurait également droit à un projet solo (invités confirmés : Terry Bozzio et Billy Sheehan).
Chez InsideOut, ça va cartonner : après avoir réédité Devin Townsend (Steve Vai, Strapping Young Lad), le label s'apprête à nous envoyer entre les gencives un nouvel album de Threshold, de Ark, et un double live du projet TransatlanticSMPTe), en attendant le nouvel Event, un nouveau Planet X (enregistré en février-mars), la nouvelle escapade solo de Derek Sherinian (en compagnie de Simon Phillips, Tony Franklin, Steve Lukather et Zakk Wylde). InsideOut, en compagnie cette fois de Giant Electric Pea, nous servira également le nouvel album de Pendragon.
Chez Sensory, plusieurs nouveautés excitantes sont attendues. Outre le nouveau Gordian Knot (où Bill Bruford de King Crimson viendra faire une apparition) attendu pour le printemps, c'est le premier album de Zero Hour qui nous fait saliver. Il s'appelle The towers of avarice et semble être d'avance un vaste monument de metal prog bien trashy et technique à la Aghora. On nous parle aussi d'un album instrumental de Scott McGill façon Liquid Tension Experiment mais en plus difficile - un sample est dispo sur le site de Sensory.
Chez Brennus, on apprend que Regency sortirait un premier album. Y en a qui n'attendaient que cela. et Hÿdra alors, qu'est-ce qu'ils deviennent ?
Chez Modern Music, on a signé Athena. Le nouvel album, qui sort maintenant, s'appelle Twilight of days. Kamelot s'est aussi remis au travail.
Chez Elektra, Dream Theater met la dernière main au DVD reprenant des extraits de la tournée Metropolis 2000, tandis qu'un double live sur CD devrait sortir un rien plus tard. James LaBrie (Mullmuzzler, Leonardo), Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic), John Petrucci (nouvelles vidéos pédagogiques), Jordan Rudess (solo) et John Myung (Explorer's Club) sont également actifs chacun dans leur coin. Notamment, dispo uniquement aux States, l'album de duo acoustique entre Petrucci et Rudess. Sûrement hyper-neuneu, mais soit. Enfin, Dream Theater s'est à nouveau enfermé en studio pour la mise au point de leur nouvel album (qui ne sera pas concept).
Le groupe Avalon est prêt pour faire jaillir son quatrième opus des cartons de chez Omega. Il s'appelle Eurasia. Ils éditent aussi un sampler gratuit en collaboration avec B-Mind (label de Mind Odyssey, Tomorrow's Eve, etc.). Voyez leur site http://www.omegarecords.de.
Les amis de Mastermind ont eu une idée saugrenue : faire publier, par un label spécialement conçu pour l'occasion, des raretés et bandes live du groupe. Le label se nomme Stellar Vox.
Gardez aussi un oeil sur le label Adrenaline : les parutions sont épisodiques, imprévisibles et souvent difficile à trouver, mais cela en vaut parfois la peine.
Attention à Galileo : le label suisse continue à produire de l'excellente musique. Bientôt le premier album du groupe Scythe.
Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower) possède son label : Eclectic Electric. Il y publie les insanités techniques de son groupe Spastic Ink, dont le second album est attendu au milieu 2001 ; il s'appellera Ink compatible. Sean Malone de Gordian Knot y fait quelques sauts de basse.
Nos amis de Ken's Novel sont en route pour l'enregistrement d'un nouvel opus. On l'attend de pieds fermes.
Pour le reste, il y aura sûrement plein de surprises. C’est gai aussi, non, les surprises ?
