"I'm afraid there's been a misunderstanding.
I'm not with these ruffians! I'm here by accident!"

Ivar is a prince from a distant foreign land, who arrived on the shores of Kells in pursuit of a thief who stole from his homeland a valued treasure: the sacred silver chalice. Ivar first encountered the Mystic Knights Angus and Rohan when the two were on a quest to find the fairy ring. True to Cathbad's prophecy, a stranger (Ivar) led Angus and Rohan to the fairy ring, which in turn allowed them passage into the mystical realm of Tir Na Nog. While it was Angus' trickery that first caused the foreign prince to join in the quest, it was his sense of honor that kept him in Kells. Rohan had saved his life, and in order to repay the debt, Ivar swore his allegiance with Rohan and the other questors. By learning to trust Rohan, Angus, and Deirdre, Ivar earned the magnificent Barbed Trident.

As the Mystic Knight of Water, Ivar utilizes his battle training, strategy, and logical planning to defend Kells from evil forces. By calling "Water Around Me" while holding up his Barbed Trident, Ivar dons his powerful navy blue and gold armor. While he is a renowned warrior, his greatest contribution to the Mystic Knights is his peaceful and logical demeanor. In his home country, Ivar had on occasion negotiated between two disagreeing parties, and this enables him to come between the regular conflicts that arise between the more hot-headed Knights.

Since Ivar is from a foreign country, he brings with him a variety of skills that intrigue his fellow Knights, and assist them greatly in their quest. For instance, Ivar is a skilled hunter and tracker. On several occasions, Ivar has used his tracking abilities to help solve mysteries, and discern where a missing individual had gone, and even possibly what happened to that person. He was instrumental in finding King Fin Varra ("The Lost King"), as well as Princess Lynette ("Shipwrecked") after she fled Kells Castle. In addition, Ivar is a master of the "Silent Walk," which is an effective manner of sneaking up on someone. This is just a sampling of the skills Ivar has picked up from both his home country and his travels abroad.

The key reason why Ivar had come to Kells was to find the missing chalice. He blamed himself for its theft, and determined he would find the man with a scar on his forehead by himself. He later got sidetracked by the Mystic Knights, and this point brought Maeve to test Ivar's loyalty on several occasions, by waving the chalice before his eyes. Ivar discovered that his quest to find the chalice and his duty to the Mystic Knights aren't entirely opponent, since it was Torc, Maeve's captain of the guard, who stole the chalice. Later, it was revealed that Maeve is in possession of the chalice, which she uses to summon Mider, the Dark Fairy, from his magical realm. So, in alliance with the four other Knights, Ivar strives to regain his country's sacred treasure, and at the same time limit the resources of Kells' enemies by depriving them of its magic.
