Torc is the dedicated leader of all of Temra's vast armies. While he is a veteran soldier, no one doubts his physical strength and strategic ability. Torc always leads Queen Maeves forces into battle against the Mystic Knights or the rest of Kells' forces, bravely charging the gates of Kells to win his queen victory. While the rest of Temra's armies seem afraid to fight the Knights, Torc has taken the war against Kells personally, and continues to plot a means to best the Mystic Knights, and bring an end to Conchobar's reign.
Ironically, the leader of Maeve's forces was once the leader of Kells' forces. Ten years ago, Torc was a dedicated soldier of Kells, and a trusted, honorable friend of the king himself. While we don't know exactly why Torc decided to betray his king and country, most likely the reason is greed. Torc left the fortification of Kells castle, and struck a bargain with Maeve. He would defect to her army, provided he becomes the leader of her armies. From that moment on, Torc served Maeve as a faithful powerhouse against Kells.
Although he and his forces have suffered many losses at the hand of the Mystic Knights, Torc remains vigilant to bring about their destruction. His hatred for the Knights has become personal, as he takes each loss as more evidence of his own inability to lead. With each battle, however, Torc becomes more determined. He continues to seek a means to defeat the Knights and their magical armor, either by obtaining his own weapon to match theirs, or to disable their weapons. In his desperate need to prove himself worthy of Maeve's favor, he continually strives to accomplish all that is asked of him.
