Ray always had a passion for H.G. Welles and wanted to do a version of WAR OF THE WORLDS. He created some concept sketches and wanted to animate the Martians and the spacecraft keeping it in period with the original novel. While WAR OF THE WORLDS was eventually made by George Pal, one can only wonder what would have happened if Pal and Harryhausen had teamed up for the project.
