10 New Shows You Shouldn't Miss -- Felicity

WB / Tuesdays / 9pm

The (Admittedly Chick-Oriented) Pitch: "Didja ever wonder what happened when Angela from My So-Called Life went to college? No? Well, didja ever wonder what was Ally McBeal's major?"

Why This Is Not Just Another Chick Show: A provocative premise: Graduating high-school senior and perennial good girl Felicity Porter (played by the luminous Keri Russell) tosses away her Stanford acceptance to follow a boy she barely knows to a less prestigious college in New York, thinking, "Maybe it'll save my life or something."

Why It Deserves to Succeed: Keri Russell gives one of the most nuanced portrayals of coming of age since, yes, Claire Danes' Angela on My So-Called Life. The producers include Ron Howard, who knows a thing or two about coming of age on TV. And the WB network is on a roll with its teen melodramas Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Felicity's lead-in) and Dawson's Creek.

Why It Might Actually Succeed: By far the most critically acclaimed new series, Felicity should have no problem slaying Buffy fans.
