onBiography:

Marco Sanchez
Marco Sanchez, who played Sensor Chief Miguel Ortiz on seaQuest DSV, is winning hearts and followers across the continent. Marco was born in Palm Desert California in 1970 and has spent his life there or in Los Angeles til he moved with seaQuest down to Florida. Marco did not begin acting until age 24 when he entered college. While attending the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Televison, he participated in several local plays and theatrical activities. During this time several small roles in the area he was able to pay for his college tuition and prove to his parents that acting was a legitimate occupation.

After graduating in 1992 with a degree in theater history, he auditioned for a got the role as Miguel on seaQuest. On his role as Miguel, Marco says that he is glad for once to be playing an upstanding and intelligent latino instead of the typecast hoodlums. He hopes that Ortiz will serve as a positive role model and help dispel the negative images that are usually presented of latinos.

In his time as an actor, Marco has appeared in such shows as "Knots Landing" where he played a mischievous high schooler as well as guest spots on "In the Heat of the Night" and "Flying Blind." Other credits include several Spanish commercials and the CBS Afterschool Special "But He Loves Me" where he portrayed a switchblade weilding Hispanic. His most recent endeavor before seaQuest was a co-starring role as a half Indian who witnessed a murder in the TV movie "Gunsmoke: The Long Ride."

Marco is known to enjoy the sports of volleyball, rollerblading, baseball and horseback riding. In his spare time (what little he has) he likes to try his hand at drawing and painting. He's also commented that he is learning to play the guitar.

Yet still you ask, what is the real Marco like? Well the best I can offer is a quote from Stephanie Beecham that appeared in her STARLOG interview last year. In reference to Marco she described him as "the Val Kilmer / Jim Morrison of the group."
