Michelle Thomas

September 23, 1969- December 22, 1998

Many were shocked and saddened by the news that Michelle Thomas passed away.  Those of us who are fans of the soap opera,The Young and the Restless, will sorely miss her portrayal as the spunky Callie Rogers.  Michelle was perhaps best known for her role of Myra Monkhouse on the TV sitcom "Family Matters".

Acting was not Michelle's only talent.  She had a most unique and beautiful singing voice.  Those of us who watched her on the Young and the Restless were lucky enough to hear her sing.  She had not been on the show for long, but we looked forward to learning more about her complex character, Callie, and hearing more of her lovely voice.   Unfortunately, her time with us was all too brief.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family of Michelle Thomas, especially her parents, Dennis and Phynjuar Thomas.  I hope that if you do read this page, it will give you some comfort to know that your daughter affected many.  Her fans will not forget her!

If you are visiting and would like to sign the guestbook, please do.  I continue to prefer that the sentiments expressed be directed toward the actress's family rather than to me.  (If there is something you would like to say to me, please  e-mail me directly.) Unfortunately, the guestbook was tampered with and I had to delete the link and make a new guestbook altogether. (Ironically, tragedy struck in my own family this year when I lost my sister prematurely. As a result, I have not updated this page as I should have.) If I can find a way to erase the very offensive link which was left in the previous guestbook, I will once again display a link so that visitors (and, hopefully, Michelle's family) can view the other entries.

In the meantime, I apologize for the link which you were automatically brought to upon attempting to view the guestbook. I hope to find out who did this. The current guestbook filters out such offensive material, and I will work hard to do the same. (Note: If you DO visit the guestbook just to leave a stupid/inappropriate comment just to get attention, please be assured that your comment will not be acknowledged by me, but quietly deleted from the guestbook!)

No doubt, Michelle's passing was as much of a shock to the execs at The Young and the Restless as it was to her fans.  Siena Goins was quickly replaced as the character of Callie, and her first air date was December 22, 1998, the day before Michelle's passing.  In the beginning, she was just supposed to fill in for Michelle, then suddenly a week later, many of us learned of Michelle's death in a shocking way: We turned on the Young and the Restless to hear them announce: "Due to the sudden passing of Michelle Thomas, the role of Callie is now being played by Siena Goins."

I can understand the producers of the show feeling the need to recast the character quickly.  She was central to the Malcolm/Olivia storyline.  However, for many of us, the show will not be the same without her in the role of Callie, the vivacious, mysterious woman from Malcolm's past.  She created the character, and to me, she will always be Callie.

If the news of Michelle's untimely passing left you shocked and saddened, imagine for a moment the loss her parents and family must feel (and will always feel). If you haven't taken the time yet to write to the parents of Michelle, Dennis and Phynjuar Thomas, please do so at:

Thanks to everyone who signed my online petition to voice our desire to see an episode dedicated in Michelle's honor! I still hope to add many features to this site., including audio clips of Michelle's singing taken from the show, Quicktime movie clips featuring her television roles, and the published text of an interview she did with Soap Opera Digest. However, at this time, I still have not received permission from any of the necessary sources in order for me to do this. I'm going to have to start pounding harder on some doors to get some responses!  I also want to add some new pictures soon, which have been given to us for use on this site.

In  Soap Opera Digest  dated January 19, 1999, her death is mentioned on page 4 (under their "Late-Breaking News Section). There is also an article about Michelle entitled "Forever Young" in  People's January 11th 1999 newsstand issue. (As far as I know, it was not mentioned on their web site.)

Please bear with me as I try to add to this site.  Michelle may be gone, but she is far from forgotten.  Michelle, we still miss you and love you.
