Love will Make it Alright

Chapter 1

Elizabeth Webber giggled as she gazed at her boyfriend's lips.
"Sly, I'm supposed to be working!" That afternoon, Kelly's was flooded
with customers.
"Oh, come on. Just one little kiss?" He tapped his finger to his lips
one more time. Liz giggled again and sighed. She leaned over the counter
and gave him a quick peck on the lips.
"There, can I work now, please/" She asked good-naturally. Sly smiled
back at her and nodded.

From accross the room, Lucky Spencer sat at a table with his close
friend, Brooke Lyn Ashton. Unnoticed by Lucky, Brooke rolled her eyes as
Lucky continued to stare at the couple at the counter. He quickly averted
his eyes as Elizabeth neared their table.
"Can I get you guys some refills on those sodas?" She asked with a smile.
"No thanks, I'm good," Lucky replied with a smile.
"Sure, I'll take a refill." Brooke held up her empty glass to Liz.
"Okay, I'll be right back," Liz said, keeping her eyes on Lucky. Lucky
sighed and played with his fries a bit.
"You're pathetic, you know that?" Brooke Lyn stated.
"How so?" Lucky asked, lifting his eyes.
"Everyday, you go around mooning over Liz Webber, but you don't do
anything about it!"
"And what do you think I should be doing?"
"Telling her off! You're off being held prisoner--"
"She didnt' know that. She thought I was dead," he interrupted.
"Still, she should have known. You're off, in a living hell for ten
months, meanwhile, she's here, fawning all over your cousin!"
"Brooke, first of all, how was she to know I was really alive? And I
can't blame her and Sly for falling in love. It's not exactly something you
get a choice in." He narrowed his eyes.
"Okay, fine. But what about when you got back, huh?"
"What about it? I couldn't very well expect Elizabeth to up and dump
Sly. She explained things very clearly." His eyes wandered as he remembered
the night he had tried to get Elizabeth back . . .

There she stood, in the middle of the docks. Her brown hair flowing from
beneath her winter hat. She was gazing peacefully out into the water.
"Thanks for meeting me here," Lucky said as he came up behind her. She
turned slowly, a smile on her beautiful face.
"You knew I would. No matter how cold it is outside, I will always be
there for you." Behind the smile, Lucky could see tears in her eyes.
"I'm glad you said that. Let's sit down." He motioned to the wooden
bench and they sat quietly. Elizbeth looked at Lucky expectantly.
"We, um, have somethings that we need to talk about," he cleared his
throat nervously, "Now that I'm . . . back." She looked down at her hands
that were now balled nervously in her lap.
"I know," she replied, "Lucky . . . I still love you. I always have,
and I always will."
"You mean that?" The excitement showed through his voice, "Elizabeth, I
never stopped loving you, the whole time I was there. Everynight, --"
"Lucky, wait. Let me finish." She put up her hand to quiet him, "I love
you, but I'm with Sly now." His face fell and his eyes welled up. This was
what he had been afraid of.
"Please, don't," She was unable to finish as a fresh flow of tears burst
from her lungs. He put his arm around her and held her close.
"No, don't cry. Shhhh, please. It's okay. I, I knew. I understand. I
just had to get it out in the open, you know?" He lifted her chin so their
teary eyes met. She nodded, but didn't drop the gaze.
"I love you, Elizabeth," he whispered before he closed the space between
them in one, sweet, final kiss.
. . . . .

"You just can't understand." He finished, looking at Brooke Lyn's angered
face.
"I guess not." She replied with a glance over her shoulder at Sly and
Liz. "Whatever," she muttered. Lucky smiled and leaned back in his chair,
taking a long look at his friend.
"You know, you can be so dramatic sometimes."
"I know," she smiled, leaning over the table, "That's why you love me,"
she said playfully. Lucky just raised his eyebrows and they both laughed.

Chapter 2

"Hey, sorry I'm late," Emily sighed as she sat beside Elizabeth on the
bench.
"It's okay. We still have plenty of time to go dress shopping. I can't
believe we've waited this long to get our prom dresses! I hope they still
hae some good ones left."
"They better, or I'll have my Grandfather buy the store and have everyone
fired!" The two girls laughed happily.
"So, I hear Lucky's going with Brooke Lynn." Elizabeth glanced coyly
over at her friend.
"Yeah. You should see how excited she is. You know, it's a big deal fo
rany under classman to go to the senior prom."
"Yeah, I know what you mean."
"Liz . . . are you sure you're over Lucky?"
"Yeah, oh yeah," she answered quickly.
"Okay, just making sure." There was an awkward silence and Elizabeth
could tell there was something Emily wanted to say.
"Um, Liz? Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, go ahead." She answered reassuringly. Emily looked so nervous.
"Have you ever had sex, I mean other than the rape?"
"Why are you asking? Are you and Juan . . . ?"
"No, well at least, not yet." Emily's cheeks flushed pink, "But I'm
worried he might want to, like soon."
"Has he been pressuring you at all?"
"No, but I can tell he wants more. I mean, we haven't done anything but
kiss. But, you know, with prom night coming up, and you know what guys
expect to happen."
"If you're not ready, Em, then you can tell Juan that. You dont' have to
sleep with him unless you're totally comfortable doing it."
"I know. Thanks, I just needed someone else to tell me, other than my
conscience, you know?" Liz nodded. "Has Sly ever pressured you to fool
around or anything?"
"No, never," Liz lied.
"Okay, good. I know I don't even NEED to ask if Lucky did, because you
and I both know he wouldn't, after all you two went through together."
"Yeah," Liz smiled as she remembered the time in New York where they had
almost consumated their love for each other. "He would never have pressured
me to do anything we werent' ready for."
"Well, I think we better get over to that dress store before they run out
of the good dresses. I don't want to have to make Chloe design one for me on
this short notice."
"Okay, let's go."

Sly tossed his backpack tot he floor as he made his way to the kitchen.
"Hi, Aunt Jenny," he said politely.
"How was your day?"
"It was fine."
"Homework?"
"A little."
"Make sure you do it soon." Her tired eyes pleaded with him.
"Uh huh." Sly rolled his eyes as he left the kitchen. His aunt's
meddling really annoyed him, even though he knew she had her reasons. After
al, it wasn't all that long ago that he had been a trouble maker, a problem
child almost. He hung out with the screw-ups, was heavy into drugs and sex.
A life that still wasn't easy for him to leave behind.

*~*~*
"Sly, my man. What've you been up to?"
"Hey, Brian. Just hanging low."
"Cool, cool. Guess who's been asking about you."
"Who?" Sly asked casually.
"Dolores. Wants to know what happened to you. Don't know what to tell
her, man." Brian's words came out in a slurred, soned out state. Sly let
out a small scoff.
"Tell her I'm not like that anymore. I'm with Liz Webber now."
"Like that means much, man. You've never exactly been a one-woman guy,"
Brian laughed. Sly turned angrily.
"Well I am now." He raised his eyebrows in a challenge.
"Alright, alright, man. I'll tell her. But she ain't gonna give up
easy."

*~*~*

Sly sighed and leaned back on his bed. He wasn't proud of his past, but
there wasn't much he could do about it. He had become depressed after his
father was killed. Aunt Jenny wasn't much help. So, he found solace in
getting drunk and high. When he was 13, that wasn't enough. He began having
sex with a different girl each week to console his pain. Shortly after he
moved in with Jenny, he stopped hanging around Emily and Lucky and started
hanging out with a new crowd, who led similar lives.
Of course, he hadn't completely lost touch with either of them. Lucky
wouldn't allow that. Lucky and Sly went to th emovies or to the basketball
court occaionally, but Sly tended to make excuses not to. Then Lucky became
close to his "Elizabeth". Lucky had practically begged Sly to meet her, on
many occassions. But Sly didn't want to. He didn't want to go back to the
real world. He couldn't be a part of Lucky's picture perfect life. His life
was in a different place. he belonged with the punky troublemakers.
Smoking, drinking, cutting class, and having unsafe sex.
Often times, Sly would say he would meet Lucky somewhere to meet
Elizabeth. Then, he wouldn't show up. Instead, he would hide nearby and
watch them from a distance. Lucky was so happy with her, and Elizabeth was
beautiful, an angel, just like Lucky had said. Sly didn't seem to fit in.
But then everything changed. Lucky's apartment went up in flames. Sly
was told that Lucky died within them. It was unbelievable. Sly didn't know
how to handle it. He had not yet recovered from his parents' untimely
deaths, how could he now lose Lucky, too? Sly couldn't even get it together
to go to Lucky's memorial service.
About 2 weeks later, Sly found a way to deal with the pain. While he was
cutting yet another class, Sly found Elizabeth Webber sitting on the school
steps, crying her heart out. Sly stood in the doorway for a moment, just
watching her. Even as she shook and tears streamed angrily down her cheeks,
she still remained beautiful. He made the decision to confront her, assuming
that Lucky would've wanted him to comfort his love.

*~*~*

Sly quietly sat down beside her. She didn't seem to notice. With
extreme sadness in his eyes, Sly gently layed his hand on her shoulder. She
gasped and shot her teary eyes up to his.
"Elizabeth," he started slowly, "I'm Sly, Lucky's cousin. I--I'm sorry."
His voice cracked mid-sentence and he turned his face away, not wanting her
to see him cry. She lifted her soft hand to his cheek and gently wiped away
the single tear that spilled from Sly's eye. He turned back to her and let
his arm slip around her shoulders. She leaned in and lay her head upon his
chest. And the two cried over their tragic loss.

*~*~*

And that was how it started. They became close, bonding over their loss,
never expecting anything from each other. Sly realized tha tnot ony was she
beautiful on the outside, but on the inside, too. Sly fell in love with her
quickly, but kept it hidden. But then Liz began to show feelings for him, as
more than a friend. Sly worked up his coursage and kissed her one night. To
his surprise, she kissed him back. They admitted to each other how they
felt, and decided to try to take things slow.
Slow. That's something Sly wasn't quite used to, but he knew it was what
Liz needed. And now that he had Liz, he wasn't about to let her leave him,
too.
