Save the Last Dance for Me   Part 1


Background:
Two new characters are introduced to Bay City by the names of Jason and Laura. Jason is an artist (a real one, unlike Sergei) who is haunted by his past and can't get close to anyone.. His wife and unborn child were killed by a drunk driver. Laura is a psychiatrist that just took over from her mentor in Bay City. Both, befriended Jake and Vicky respectively. I know, I promised only two new characters, but there will be a little girl involved in the storyline that will influence the creative Romantic juices in me to compete with Sydney.
Jason has only told one person of his past and that is Jake. Although, Jake snooped around first and eventually Jason had to tell him. Vicky is hell bent on setting Laura and Jason up, but is having difficulty in doing so. Laura is holding back because she can't get close enough to Jason, and Jason is holding back due to his past. Jake is trying to get Vicky to back off by any romantic means necessary to give Jason a chance to ease into things. However, a fateful night will change the lives of all of these characters through romance, love, loss, and family.
This will be a long storyline and will have to be summarized in some parts, or I will take a whole year to write it.

Character Casting:

Jason: Yours truly, or any actor you wish.
Laura: if the name hasn't given it away, then. . . Laura Moss
Little girl (KJ): Lindsay Lohan. (If you are new to the show--redheaded Allie)

Scene 1

Characters: Jason, Laura, Vicky, Jake, Chris, and other Bay City residents.
Setting: K-Bay Soceity Fund Raiser

Laura, Chris, Jason, and Vicky are at the bar getting champagne and having a conversation.

Laura: [watching Jason tugging at his collar on his tux] You look uncomfortable in that thing.

Jason: What gave you that inpression? Is it the bow tie that hangs around my neck like a hang man's noose.

Vicky: Men!

Chris: Women!

Laura: What is that supposed to mean?

Chris: The same thing the men comment from Vicky did!

Both shoot "the look" at Chris and Jason.

Jason:[taking off his bow tie] Look! What Chris means is that we don't believe in playing dress-up.

Laura: Dress up? Do you think we actually like taking hours trying to find a dress, applying make-up, plucking eyebrows, and wearing heels to these functions?

Laura is wearing the a red sequened dress with her red hair up, and Vicky is wearing that blue dress she wore with Jake to the harbour club.

Chris and Jason:[both look at each other] Yeah!

Jason: Where is Jake?

Chris: Talking to Joe.

Jason: I think it is time someone decided to save him. Don't you,Vicky?

Vicky: You just want me away from you so I don't push the pairing of you and Laura!

Laura: Speaking of that, do you want to cut a rug?

Jason: [leaning against the wall near the bar] Sorry, don't dance!

Laura: Can't or won't?

Jason: A little of both. Besides,[still leaning against the wall] in school I was the type of guy that leaned against the gym wall [stops leaning against the wall and steps forward looking back at the wall] and made sure it didn't fall on the other dancers. That leaves Chris as your partner!

Chris: Well, let's cut the rug.

Laura and Chris walk to the dance floor arm in arm. Jason turns back to the bar and puts down the empty glass of champagne and calls over the bartender.

Vicky:[has Jake's chin on her shoulder and hits Jason on the arm] Why is Chris dancing with Laura?

Jason:[jumping back] Jeez! You really have to get this lady's attention off of me, Mckinnon, and back on to you.

Jake:[kissing Vicky on her neck and bare shoulder] Once, she gets something into that beautiful blonde head of hers, it is impossible to steer her in another direction. You still need that ride.

Jason: Yep!

Vicky: [pulling away from Jake] This is perfect! I will be right back.

Jason:[grabbing Jake by the arm before he can leave] What does she mean? Jake!

Jake:[Jake still facing away from Jason] Nothing, but [voice goes to a whisper] Laura needs a ride home also.

Jason:[spinning Jake around to face him] What is it going to take to turn Vicky off!

Jake: The truth!

Jason: The only reason that I told you the truth is because of the digging you did.

Vicky and Laura approach the two men and the scene exits.

Scene 2

Characters: Jake, Vicky, Laura, Jason
Setting: Jake's car, driving down a winding road.

The storm was getting worse as the car containing the characters came to two cars that were in an accident. One was still on the road, and the other was over a cliff that held a river at the bottom.  Jake and Jason got to the first car and stumbled onto the driver walking away from the car.

Jake: Where is the other car?

Jason was looking around and spotted the opening of fallen trees and and the cement divider crushed into little pieces

Jason:[yelling at Jake over the thunder from across the road] Jake! Jake, I think I found the other car.

The rain was coming down harder, and the lightning and thunder came more frequently as Vicky and Laura came out to where Jason was standing.

Vicky: [holding her jacket over herself and Laura]Is there anyone in there?

Jake quickly heads down the cliff to the river. Jason still standing with a frozen stare at the car sinking faster into the river.

Vicky: Jason! Jason help Jake get to the car.

Laura:[looking at Jason eyes] Jason?

Jason finally gets out of his frozen state that his past kept him in and he proceeded down the slope to the car.

Jason: Can you find any movement in the car?

Jake: I can't see any.

Jason quickly gets into the river and swims to the car, and Jake follows suit. The water is rising faster from the storm and the current is getting stronger as they reach the car and there are two adult people in the car that are not moving.  Jason hears a faint scream coming from under the bridge and sees a little girl hanging onto the cement foundation and yells at Jake pointing to the girl.

Jake: You go get the girl, and I will see what I could do here.

Vicky:[sees the ambulance and police cars pull up to the site] Joe! Jake and Jason are both down there searching the car for any people.

Joe: Both you and Laura go back to the car and out of the rain. [screaming at the paramedics] We have to move now. We have two people for sure in the water, and I have no idea how long the car has been down there.

Jason reaches the girl who is in and out of conciousness.

Jason:[holding onto the girl and the foundation of the bridge] You have to stay awake. Can you hear me?

The water is getting colder as the night grows longer. Jake makes it out of the water with no one in his grasp and runs into Ryan by the river's overflowing edge.

Joe: Is anyone in that car.

Jake: Not alive.

Joe: [covering Jake with a blanket] Where is Jason?

Jake: He went after a little girl that was in the water. He should be at the foundation of the bridge. You can probably reach him by lowering a rope or basket down to him from the top.

Jason is trying to move to the second foundation in order to get to the river's edge. with the current working against him

Jason:[trying to keep the girl warm by lifting her out of the water as much as he can] You have to stick around here, sweet-heart. Think warm thoughts. They should be getting to us soon.

A basket was lowered from the bridge and the scene exits with Jason putting the little girl into the steel rescue basket.

Scene 3

Characters: Vicky, Laura, Jake, Joe, Jason, little girl
Setting: Hospital

Vicky:[sitting on the bench watching Laura pace] Hey, I'm the one with the husband.

Laura:[stopping to turn to Vicky] I'm only worried about him because . . .

Vicky:[getting up from the bench] Because you love him.

Laura: Don't be ridiculous! How can I love someone that can't show his feelings to anyone? [sitting on the bench] I mean every time that I manage to break down one wall, another one is built before I can cross the first. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time until tonight.

Vicky:[sitting beside Laura] What is it?

Jason, the paramedics, and the little girl walk through the automatic doors of the hospital. The doctor and nurses quickly stop Jason from entering the hospital room. Laura and Vicky are standing behind Jason watching the reaction of Jason and the girl being attended to by the doctor's.  Jason is standing soaking wet with the white dress shirt and black pants of the tuxedo he wore to the fundraiser.

Jason:[looking through the windows of the surgical room and whispering] This can't be happening again.

Laura moving to Jason and Vicky trying to pull her back as Jake coming up behind Vicky with Joe in tow.

Laura:[putting her hand on his shoulder] You have to let the doctor check you over.

Jason:[turning around to face the Laura] I'm fine. [talks to the doctor] You are better off looking after the girl.

Vicky:[holding on to the freezing Jake] Did you find her parents?

Jake looks at Vicky

Vicky: They didn't make it, did they?

Joe: We are bringing the car up now, and we will be able to identify who the girl is and any relatives she might have to help her through this. If she will pull through this.

Jason:[looking at the girl with Laura by his side] She will!

A doctor comes out of the surgical room and heads to Jason.

Doctor: Are you the father?

Joe: The. . .

Jason: [cutting Joe off and looking at him] Yes!

Joe: Jason, you can't. . .

Vicky and Jake quickly clamped his mouth shut.

Doctor: Her body temperature is extremely low and we are doing everything we can to warm her up.

Jason: What do you need my consent to do?

Doctor: Nothing, we are warming her up, and we thought you might like to sit with her. Sometimes, it is best for her to have someone she knows to connect with and fight for.

Laura: Do you have any clothes he can change into before he freezes.

Doctor: I can find you some scrubs till someone gets you a change of clothes.

Jake: We can do that, I'll drop by your place. That is if you didn't change the locks to my old place.

Jason shakes his head no and leaves with the doctor to get changed into dry clothes.
