Save the Last Dance for Me  Part 2

Scene 4

Characters: Jason/Little Girl/Laura
Setting: Hospital room

Jason is sitting in a chair that is located in the corner of the room and he is on the verge of falling asleep. Through half closed eyes he saw movement from the little girl's hand. He brought the chair closer the bed and held her hand. He glanced over to Laura who had taken the other chair and had fallen alseep.

Jason:[placing his hand through the metal bar that keeps her from falling and holds her hand] I haven't been much help, have I? I don't know what I can say, since I don't even know your name, let alone your memories or your hobbies.

Jason squeezed her hand and quickly moved over to the sleeping Laura and placed a blanket over her to keep her warm, and moved some of her bangs out of her eyes. He walked back to his chair and placed his hand back on to the little girl.

Jason:[whispering] I will try to tell you a story. How should this start? I guess once upon a time will do, even though I don' believe in fairy tales anymore and you are probably too old for it. All right, once upon a time, there was a prince who lost his muse. I don't know if you know what that word means, but it is like inspiration in doing something. Anyway back to the story. With his muse gone his heart was closed . . . [seeing the little girl awaken] Well, it must have been a pretty boring story if I woke you up.

Little girl(KJ):[looking around with frightened eyes]

Jason: Shh. . . You are in the hospital. I'll get a doctor to look you over, and then I will answer some more of your questions.[Jason walks to the door]

Laura:[waking up with the light from the hallway shining on her] What's is it?

Jason: She woke up and I am going to get a doctor. Stay with her.

The doctor and Jason come back to the room. Jason stands behind Laura and whispers in her ear.

Jason: Stay with her and don't tell her until I get back. I want to find out her name first.

Laura: O.k

Scene 5

Characters: Jake/Joe/Jason
Setting: BCPD

Jake:[bargining in Carlino's office] Carlino!

Joe:[continuing doing paperwork and doesn't look at Jake] Go out the same way you came in McKinnon.

Jake:[sitting at the guest chair] Come on, Joe. I was there in the water and I deserve at least a little bit of the details.

Joe: The little girl's parents died.

Jake: Already knew that Joe. How did the accident happen? Was it the storm, alcohol related, or just an accident?

Joe: Can't help you Jake!

Jason knocked on the door to Joe's office and peeks his head in.

Joe: [looking at Jason] The little girl. . .

Jason: [walking in and taking a seat next to Jake] She just woke up. I need some information.

Jake: You are not going to get any information from him.

Joe: [smacking Jake's feet off his desk and he sits down] I will try to give you the information that I can.

Jake: You are giving him the information, and not me!

Jason: I won't print it, and you can stay if you don't either. By the way thanks for the clothes.[still dressed in scrubs]

Jake: Vicky is on her way right now.

Joe: What do you need?

Jason: Her name and the right to tell her about her parents.

Joe: Her name is Kelly-Joe. Her parent's names were Kevin and Tammy. The early search reveals no relatives.

Jake: She is all alone now.

Joe: Looks like it.

Jason: Any chance of pictures with them together, that is if it survived the water.

Joe: Yeah! Why?

Jason: Have to let her hold on to something from her past.

Scene exits with the picture being held by Jason and it zooms toward the picture of the destroyed family.

Scene 6

Characters: Vicky and Laura
Setting: Hospital corridor

Laura:[watching the doctor look after the little girl]

Vicky: [coming up behind Laura] Here, I brought a sweat shirt of Jason's for you.

Laura: What? [looking down at Vicky's hand containing the sweat shirt] Oh, thanks.

Vicky: Thinking about what that little girl is going to do now without parents.

Laura:[turning away from the window and sitting at a bench] Can't help but think that. Her parent's won't even see her first date.

Vicky: Where's Jason?

Laura: Finding out her name.

Vicky: What for?

Laura: He wants to be the one to tell her about her parent's.

Vicky: Why would he want that burden?

Laura: [standing and walking into the room with Vicky] I think he is living what she is going to go thru.

Vicky: What does that mean?

Laura: He lost someone, but I am not sure who.

Exit scene

Scene 7

Characters: Jake/Jason/Joe
Setting: BCPD

Walking out of the office the man[college student] who was in the accident was being booked. Jason walked by and overheard the letters D.U.I.

Jason:[turning to face Joe] He was drunk!

Jake:[moving in front of Jason] Let it go.

Jason:[holding his hands in the air] You can move Jake. I'm not going to do anything.

Jake: [puts his arm around Jason] Let's go break the bad news

Jason quickly breaks away from Jake's grasp and moves to the man sitting in a chair.

Jason: Did you enjoy the drinks? So, what was your poison? [leaning to the man's ear] Tequila, scotch, vodka, or was it something else?

Man:[whispering] Tequila

Jason: [Jake trying to pull him away] Guess you and the worm traded places, Huh? You killed a little girls parents. They won't even see her first date, or her graduation, or her walking down the aisle.

Joe: That's enough!

Jake finally pulls him away from the college student and pushed him toward the stairs.

Exit scene

After telling her about her parents, the little girl went into psychological shock. She didn't communicate with anyone at the foster care system for months and only seemed to open up to Laura and Jason, but didn't talk. Jason was granted temporary custody with the testimony of Laura.This has given Laura a chance to get close to Jason without having to try too hard and has shown her a side of Jason that she never knew existed. Jake and Vicky have been having long nights at the office, and the strain of trying to beat each other for news scoops have been taking its toll. Vicky had taken over a failing K-Bay Studio and turned it into a local news station.

Scene 8

Characters: Jake/Vicky
Setting: an abandoned warehouse

Vicky:[sneaking in alone and walking in a corridor to the main warehouse] Hello! Hello, is anyone here? [walks into some cob webs in the dark corridor] Eww, I should have let a reporter do this.

Vicky walks into the main corridor and sees the place cleaned and strings of Christmas lights and roses scattered throughout the warehouse and classical music playing.

Vicky:[shocked look of her face] What is going on here?

Jake:[sneaking up behind her and grabbing her by the waist] Gotcha!

Vicky turns around and swings wildly and connects with a punch that sends Jake to the floor and he hits his head on the wooden floor knocking him out.

Vicky: [huddled over Jake] Jake! Jake, can you hear me? [looking at the table that contained champagne that was chilled in a silver ice bucket and two white candles] You big oaf, it was all a set up.

Jake comes to and sees the most beautiful blonde in the world hovering over him.

Jake: What was that for?

Vicky:[holding Jake by his tux jacket and shaking him] What was that for? You scared me to death! [let's go of the jacket and causes him to hit his head on the floor again] Argh, I can't believe you sometimes, McKinnon.

Jake is laying on the floor holding the back of his head, while Vicky is heading ovet to the table.

Scene 9

Characters: Laura/Jason/KJ(little girl)
Setting: Jason's apartment (Jake's old one)

Jason is sitting on the chair watching Casablanca on tv as the snow continues to fall on a November night. There is a knock at the door causing a sleeping KJ to stir on the couch, but not waking. Jason answers the door and sees Laura soaked to the bone.

Jason: [standing in the door way] You do know that a storm is coming, right?

Laura: [pushes Jason back and walks in the apartment] I'm cold and wet, and my car wouldn't start. [looks down at KJ on the couch sleeping and lowers her voice] Sorry, I didn't realize how late it was.

Jason:[rubbing her arms trying to warm her up and looking at her] It's o.k! Why don't you get out of those wet clothes and into a warm shower?

Their eyes lock and it goes quiet in the room. They bring their faces together and are about to kiss when Laura pulls away and brings the blanket up higher on the sleeping KJ.

Laura: Do you have any clothes I can change into after the shower.

Jason: [passing Laura and enters the bedroom leaving Laura and KJ in the living room] Yeah, I think I might have something. The towels are in he linen closet across from the bathroom. [reenters the living room] Here are the clothes you can change into.

Their hands and eyes lock with each other. Laura takes the clothes and heads to the shower as Jason takes a seat on the couch next to the stretched out legs of a sleeping KJ.

Jason: [rubs the back of his neck and mouths the word] Whoa!

Laura closes the door of the bathroom and lightly hits the door with the back of her head.

Exit scene

Well, the romance is starting like I said, and it will lead to something big, but there will be a road block courtesy of our favorite nut. I remember I said no triangles, and I will keep that promise.
