Save the Last Dance for Me  Part 3

Scene 10

Characters: Jake/Vicky
Setting: warehouse

Jake:[Walking over to the table] You know I could wind up with amnesia if you keep hitting me in the head.

Vicky:[turning a cold shoulder] Might be an improvement

Jake:[rolling his eyes] What did I do now? Leave the toilet seat up, leave the wet towels on the floor, or did I forget our grade one anniversary?

Vicky:[turning around to face Jake] Why did you set all this up? Was it to throw me off of the story?

Jake:[gets that look he usually has when he is caught red handed in a lie] Story. . . What story?

Vicky: The Jordan Stark story I know that you are after that story too.

Jake:[rolling his eyes and gets down on his knees] I don't care about the story.

Vicky: You already printed the story, didn't you? You got the scoop.

Jake: Listen to me! [taking her hands in his] I do not care about the story, I care about what the story is doing to us.

Vicky: To us, what do you mean?

Jake:[getting up and lifting her from the chair] We haven't seen each other alone in a long time. Between Kirk and Steven and our jobs, we haven't had a minute's rest.

Vicky: So, you want me to give up my job? I can't believe you ar. . . [interrupted by Jake kissing her]

Jake: I want a romantic night between you and me with no interruptions.

Vicky: [smiling] Oh! Why don't we go home where the nice warm bath is waiting and we can see what comes up?

Jake: [kisses her] Why don't we go now?

They head for their cars and Jake slams the door behind him and the snow from the canopy of the warehouse falls on them.. They quickly re-enter the warehouse with snow covering their coats and hair.

Vicky: What did you get us into?

Jake:[shaking the snow out of his jacket] How was I supposed to know there was going to be a storm tonight?

Vicky: [messing her hair up to get the snow out] The weather channel! Both of are cars are buried in by the snow plow, and we have no heat in this warehouse.

Jake:[hugging her waist from behind] No need to worry.

Vicky: [turns around to face Jake] We are going to freeze to death.

Jake: I had the heat turned on, as well as the electricity. Plus, just in case the heat went out, sleeping bags.

Vicky: And what would we do with the sleeping bags.

Jake:[kisses her] A little of this. . . [kisses her again, this time on the neck] and a little of that.
Vicky and Jake kiss each other and sink to the sleeping bags near the table as the scene ends.

Scene 11

Characters: Jason/Laura/KJ
Setting:Jason's apartment

Jason was busy carrying KJ to bed as the power in the apartment complex went out. Jason quickly set the girl down in her bedroom and went back to the kitchen to search for candles. He finally found them and lit the candles to see Laura walk out wrapped in a towel with the light from the candle.

Laura: [watching Jason with the candle walk toward her] I thought I was going to kill myself in the shower, so I came out here to see if I could get a candle.

Jason:[holding the candle so both their faces appear from the darkness] A couple more minutes and I would have to knock down the door to see if you were o.k.

Laura: [looking at the candle and then to Jason's eyes and whispers] You wouldn't have to knock it down. The door was unlocked. . .

Jason takes his hand and places it on her cheek and slides his hand across it to the back of her neck. He tilts his head and leans in and their mouths are inches apart. He kisses her softly at first, and then when they are about to lean into a deep kiss they are interrupted by the power coming back on.  Laura and Jason both move away from each other and they quickly regroup their feeling for each other.

Laura:[walking backwards to the bathroom] I guess I can find the clothes now.

Jason: [hands on his waist and looking at Laura in a white towel with wet hair] Yeah, I'll start a fire in case the power goes out again. [whispers under his breath as he turns to the fire place] Or, to the fridge for a bucket of ice..

KJ quickly comes out of the bedroom heading for Jason and into his arms crying.

Scene 12

Characters: Jake/Vicky
Setting: warehouse

Jake and Vicky are laying on the sleeping bags and blankets as the candles are melting down. The lights flicker in the warehouse and Vicky noticed it.

Vicky:[using Jake's chest as a pillow] If the electricity goes out, does that mean the heat goes out?

Jake:[playing with her hair and has a rose in his] I don't know? But, if you are concerned about getting warm, [kissing the top of her head] we could always hook each other up to the generator and let the sparks fly.

Vicky:[laughing as she is rolled underneath Jake] I like that idea [kisses him]

Jake: [Jake laughing throughout the kiss]

Vicky: [looking at him] What are you laughing at Huckle Buck?

Jake: [rolling over on his back as Vicky moves toward him] What is it with us and snow storms?

Vicky:[looking confused] What do you mean?

Jake: We delivered Steven in a snow storm, and now we might be making a baby in one.

Vicky:[kisses Jake] I have a question for you now. [looking in Jake's eyes] Whatcha' waiting for Mckinnon?

Scene 13

Characters: Laura/Jason
Setting: Jason's apartment

Jason walks out of KJ's bedroom and sees Laura dressed in his clothes and is taken aback by her beauty. Laura is at the phone trying to call Vicky to see if she got home all right after getting the scoop.

Jason: [watching her hang up the phone and walk to the balcony doors] Who were you trying to phone?

Laura:[turns around and the power goes out leaving the light from the fire place to reveal her face in the darkness] Vicky. She had a meeting with a source for a story and I wanted to see if she was o.k.

Jason:[laughs and walks to window balcony doors where she is standing] Did you get a hold of her?

Laura: Phone lines are down. Did Kelly-Joe go back to sleep already?

Jason shakes his head yes.

Laura: [walking away from the window to the couch] What was the matter?

Jason:[still at the window] She usually wakes up at night and looks at the picture of her mom and dad. This time she couldn't find it due to the power being out.

Laura: But the lights were on when she came out

Jason: It fell underneath the bed. I'm pretty sure that she wakes up from a nightmare, and that picture is the only thing that can comfort her.

Laura:[watching Jason sit beside her on the couch] Has she told you about the dreams.

Jason: Easy Freud, she hasn't spoken yet. I have seen that look when she wakes.

Laura: In the mirror?

Jason: [turning his head to look at the sitting Laura beside him] Yeah.

Laura: I hate to bring this up, but the deadline is approaching from the court.

Jason:[gets up and walks to stoke the fire] I know! Three more days and the court will decide to shrink her head.

Laura:[kneeling down next to Jason by the fire] It could be worse than that.

Jason: What do you mean?

Laura: The court could decide to send her to a court appointed foster care parent that will help her with the psychiatrist.

Jason:[looks at her with pleading eyes] Why can't that be us?

Laura: They won't give that to us. I'm not a child psychologist, and you are too close to her. The court appointed psychologist might feel you are holding her back. After all, you are the one that saved her, and it might remind her of the accident even more if you are around.

Jason: I can save her from this too. I just need some more time to get her to open up.

Scene 14

Characters: Jake/Vicky
Setting:Warehouse

Vicky:[doing her blouse up underneath the christmas lights] So, about this story regarding Lumina.

Jake:[putting on his shirt and walking to Vicky] The night is still young and [putting his forehead to hers]

Vicky: and what?

Jake: [removes his forehead from hers and walks to the music box and presses play] and we can have one last dance before the night is thru. [walks back to her smiling] That's if you have the energy in your energizer battery bunny rabbit.

Vicky: Dancing with you, I think I could recharge my batteries and do it over, and over, and over again. [kisses him softly on the lips]

The camera zooms in to the Jake taking Vicky's hand and then their fingers lock together. He brings their hands to his heart and pulls her closer in his arms and the camera zooms into their faces looking at each other[the way they only can]. Then, you hear the piaono intro to the song "All My Life" by K-CI & JOJO.

The camera pans out to reveal the contents of the warehouse-- the makeshift bed, the table decorated for a romantic evening, the Christmas lights hung around the entire wearhouse, and Jake and Vicky dancing. . .

The song continues to play as the scene is switched to Jason and Laura on the couch facing the falling snow showing through the glass doors to the balcony. Laura is sleeping with her head on his shoulder and his arm around her. Jason has his head on top of hers as he has fallen asleep. The camera pans backward to the fird and reveals KJ with a blanket in her hands moving toward Jason and Laura. She comes around to the couch and places the blanket on the sleeping pair. The camera continues to follow KJ as she has enough room on the couch to curl up nezt to the sleeping pair using Laura's lap as a pillow. The camera pans out revealling all three and fades to black as the lyrics "All my life I pray for someone like you. And I thank God that I finally found you" play.
