Save the Last Dance for Me  Part 4

After the 3 days, the court decided to put KJ in the care of another foster parent, and for a pyshologist to try to open her up and talk about the accident. The new foster care parent appointed by the court was Marley. It seems that Marley cleaned up her act by volunteering at a shelter for abused children, and also volunteered at the hospital's children's ward. (I still haven't figured out how she got the job, but it sounded good)

The courts decided to give Marley temporary custody of KJ 3 weeks before Christmas and this sent Jason into a serious funk. Jason was not allowed to see KJ until the New Year. Laura and Jake have tried everything to get him out of the funk, but to no avail. However, Marley has become extremely attached to the young girl, but KJ is getting more and more withdrawn. She hasn't talked to anyone yet, not even the new psychologist.

K-Bay studio's were holding a charity event for the children's hospital wing. The event was a dare-a-thon that was attended by the Bay City elite and was held on the 20th of December.

Scene 15

Characters: Jason/Jake/Vicky/Laura
Setting: Mckinnon cottage

Jason and Laura are on the steps of the Mckinnon cottage awaiting the answer from the door (Yes, it was locked)

Laura: [looking out of the corner of her eye] Where do you think you are going? [seeing Jason walking away and down the steps]

Jason: Anywhere, but here!

Laura:[grabbbing him by his trenchcoat collar] You promised Vicky and Donna.

Jason: That was before. . .

The door opens to reveal Jake and his shirt buttons buttoned up wrong.

Jake:[out of breath] You're early!

Laura: [looking at Jake with shock and surprise] No, you are late! [Laura walks past Jake and into the house]

Jason:[walking in front of Jake and looking him in the eye] Better zip up before you can't Shania-Vicky's-Twain.

Jake: [looking at him puzzled] Say what?

Jason looks down and Jake follows suit.

Scene 16

Characters: Tyrone, Marley, KJ
Setting: Mckinnon House

Tyrone: Marley, I don't think this is a good idea.

Marley: Nonsense, we will all have fun.[bends down to a sitting KJ and places her hands on KJ's lap] Won't we?

KJ turns her body and face away from Marley and gets up and heads to her room.

Tyrone: I don't think she is going to have any fun tonight with this event.

Marley: She will once we take her on stage and sing the number both of us have planned.

Tyrone: She doesn't even talk to us. Now, you expect her to do the number with you on live t.v.
Marley: [heading to KJ's room] It's cable access.

Tyrone: [alone in the room] This is going to be a mistake.

Scene 17

Characters: Jake/Jason
Setting: K-Bay Studio

Jake and Jason are staring at their costumes for the dare-a-thon.

Jason:[looking at the costumes and then to Jake] How did we get suckered into this?

Jake: [holding up the sleeve of his costume that is hanging on the rack] I'm a sucker for a blonde. And you my friend, are nothing but whipped for a certain red-head.

Jason: Give me the costume, and shut your trap!

Jake:[throwing the costume at Jason] You are going to make a fabulous clown in your mood.
Scene 18

Characters:Laura/Vicky/Marley/KJ
Setting: Women's dressing room

Laura: Do you think this is a good idea with Jason being in the mood he's in.

Vicky: [putting a white makeup on and staring in the mirror] I don't think it will be a problem. Besides, I can't really blame him. He grew really attached to that girl. How about you?

Laura:[tying her red hair up and fitting a green curly wig over it] I miss her. It's just that Jason and I were so close to opening her up.

Vicky: [putting her wig on] How?

Laura: [turning to face Vicky] It was the night of the snow storm. Jason and I fell asleep in each others arms.

Vicky: Excuse me [smiling]

Laura: [turning to apply her makeup] We just fell asleep. Anyway, when I awoke Jason was awake and there was a blanket covering us.

Vicky: And, what was the blanket covering?

Laura:[hits Vicky in the shoulder] I told you it was nothing like that. However, the blanket was covering us, but it was also covering Kelly-Joe. She was sleeping curled up with her head in my lap. I thought for. . .

Vicky: [turning to face Laura] Thought what?

Laura turned after seeing Marley in the mirror and looked directly at KJ.

Laura:[standing up and facing Marley] What is Kelly-Joe doing here?

Marley: She's going to do the number with me and Tyrone.

Vicky: [getting up and walking to Marley] She's talking?

Marley: [standing over KJ] Not exactly!

Laura: [moving in front of Vicky to face Marley] What does not exactly mean?

Marley: [looking at Vicky]. I was the court appointed caretaker of Kelly-Joe. I don't have to justify myself to you.

Vicky:[looking at Marley] What on earth are you thinking? She's not talking and you expect her to sing and dance with you on live t.v.

Scene 19

Characters: Jake/Chris/Jason/Cass
Setting: K-Bay Studio's[backstage]

Jake: [laughing at the song and dance number Cass and Chris are doing on stage.]

Jason: [sneaking up behind him] You are one saddistic puppy!

Jake:[turns around] What?

Jason:[hand on Jake shoulder as he stands behind him] What? You have Chris and Cass in drag doing a song from the play Chicago.

Jake:[it wasn't just my idea] Lila is the one that thought of it.

Jason: Yeah, but you put up the money!

Chris and Cass walk off the stage and walk directly to Jake and Jason.

Chris:[taking his wig off] Never again, Mckinnon.

Jake: [smiling] Blame your dance partners significant other.

Cass: She may of thought of the idea, but you backed her.

Jason:[smiling and shaking his head] Look at it this way, it's not like you didn't do this before.
Chris:[looking at Jason with a stern look] And what are you supposed to be?

Jason: Isn't it obvious?

Cass: [checking his stockings for runs]Clowns are not supposed to have tears.

Jason: Who says?

Jake:[glad the blame game is off of him] It's not natural!

Jason: [looking at Jake] What is there a unwritten rule that says clowns can't have their sad days?

Cass/Jake/Chris:[look at each other] YES!

Cass: [taking the direction to a serious nature] I filed those papers for you this morning, Jason!

Jake: [looking curious] What papers?

Jason: Custody papers. Thanks Cass.

Jake:[standing in front of Jason] What about Marley?

Jason: What about Marley? If she gets lonely, she can talk to the mirror.

Scene 20

Characters: Jake/Vicky/Tyrone/Marley/Jason/Laura/KJ
Setting:Backstage at K-Bay Studio's

Laura:[pulling Marley's arm to take her away from KJ] You are not going to take that little girl in front of a t.v audience.

Jason and Jake enter the area where Marley, Vicky, Laura, and KJ are talking.

Marley: [walking back to KJ and pulling her away from Vicky] I am, and I will!

Jason:[behind Marley] You will, what?

Laura:[looking at Marley] She wants to do a number on live t.v.

Jake:[looking confused] So. . .

Vicky: With KJ!

Jason:[staring at Marley and raising her voice] Like Hell you will!

KJ in the midst of the yelling and screaming going on walks away and goes down the stairs to the basement where all the spare costumes.are located.

Marley: [pleading look toward Tyrone] Tyrone!

Tyrone:[standing in front of Jason] You are not even supposed to see Kelly-Joe until the New Year.

Jason:[walking around Tyrone]

Tyrone:[staring at him] What are you doing?

Jason: [staring him in the eye] Looking for the chain!

Tyrone: What?

Jason: I was just wondering if you snapped the chain and left the dog house behind, or if you just jump when she says for you to jump.

Tyrone:[raising his voice] Listen!

Jason: [Vicky and Jake holding him back] No, you listen! I have filed for custody and I will get it.

Laura:[walking off to find KJ]

Scene 21

Characters: Laura/KJ
Setting: Storage clothing closet

Laura noticed that KJ snuck off and proceeded to try to catch her. They both wondered into the storage room and the door slammed behind them locking both in. Laura dressed in her clown costume was trying to get the door open, but it was slammed shut and locked from the outside. KJ was hiding in the clothes as Laura walked over to the rack and extended her hand.

Laura: [crouched down and extending her hand to KJ] Come on out.

KJ comes out and they both sit on a crate of old clothes with Laura looking down at the sitting KJ.

Laura: Didn't like all that yelling, did you? So, you and Marley were going to do a dance number. What was it going to be?

KJ continued to sit besid Laura, but no response.

Laura: O.k! Not the best topic to talk about. How about Jason? Do you want to talk about Jason? He's kind of cute [nudging KJ with her shoulder].

KJ took picture of her parents out of her pocket {the one that they found in the car) and stared at it. Laura is looking at the KJ stare at the picture

Scene 22

Characters: Jake/Marley/vicky/Jason/Tyrone
Setting:K-Bay Studios

Tyrone: You filed for custody. This close to Christmas.

Marley: [standing by Tyrone] He can't do that, can he?

Jason: I can and I did! She deserves to be with someone that doesn't talk in mirrors, or sing looney toons in a padded room.

Marley:[becoming upset]

Tyrone: I had those records sealed.

Vicky: [torn down the middle of this situation] Marley wouldn't hurt her, Jason.

Jason:[staring at Jake] Is that what you told Kirkland and Steven, Jake? [looks at Vicky and then to Marley] When she decided to kidnap your wife and tell those boys that their mother would be back shortly.

Jake:[looking at the ground] Everybody has their own skeletons.

Vicky: Even you, Jason!

Jason:[calm and with a cold stare] You want my secret Vicky? I was painting. I lost track of time and forgot to pick up my wife. She decided to take a taxi home, and on the way home, they were hit by a drunk driver. That is my skeleton, Vicky! [looking at Tyrone and Marley] So, if they want to use that in the custody battle, they can! I say kidnapping is worse, then forgetting to look at a watch.

Jake realized that Laura and KJ are missing from their circle. They each decide to go their separate ways, but Jake and Vicky are stopped to go on stage.

Jake: Jason. . .

Jason:[walking away] You know the answer, Mckinnon!

Jake: [staring at Vicky] Guess, it is you and me kid!

Vicky:[looking Jake in the eye] As always!

Scene 23

Characters: Laura/KJ/Jason
Setting: Storage closet for costumes.

Laura is trying to open the doors as KJ wanders over to the costume rack and pulls a costume of a clown out. Laura turns around and sees her doing this. She walks over to her and kneels down and looks at her.

Laura: Do you want to put this on and be a clown like me and Jason. Why not, it might be fun?

KJ looks at her and then to the costume and doesn't say a thing but sits on the crate of clothes. Laura taking a chance walks to the makeup chest and takes some in her hand and brings it to KJ's face. KJ and Laura don't hear Jason come in, or the door shut behind him. He stands at a distance behind a rack of clothes and watches Laura apply the clown makeup to KJ.

Jason: [takes a chance and comes out into view] So, you are torturing her too.

Laura:[turns around and quickly runs past Jason and to the door] It's locked again.

Jason: It wasn't locked.

Laura: From the inside it is.

Jason: [looking at KJ, then to Laura] Well, you might as well finish turning her into a clown.

Laura: Jake and Vicky are right behind you, aren't they?

Jason:[shaking his head] Nope, they are on stage! [smiling and walking to KJ]

Laura:Don't even think that you managed to squeeze out of this number.

Jason:[kneeling down in front of KJ trying to make eye contact with her head hanging down to the ground] It's not like we are getting out of this place soon. It is sound proof, and not to many people know about this place.

Laura: [clapping her hands together] Good! This means we can teach the routine to KJ, and do it right here!
