Save the Last Dance for Me  Part 6

The adoption papers have yet to be signed as Jason still doesn't know how to break it to her. Meanwhile, a job offer has came to Laura, which would take her away from Bay City, leaving both Jason and Laura trying to figure out the true nature of their relationship. Vicky, who was hell bent on getting them together has joined forces with another who wants the same--KJ! Valentines Day is coming fast and the deadline for the job offer expires the day after the 14th.

Scene 30

Characters: Jake, Jason, KJ
Setting: docks

Jake and KJ are sitting at the docks on a bench looking at the water and eating popcorn.

Jake:[with a mouthful of popcorn] You and Vicky want to do what?

KJ: Get them together! Vicky says it will be like cupid.

Jake: [laughing and muttering to himself] I would love to see Vicky in nothing but a diaper.

KJ: What did you say?

Jake: [shocked and surprised look on his face] Nothing. So, how are you two cupids going to get them to admit what they are feeling?

KJ: That's where you come in!

Jake: Why do I have the feeling I am not going to like this?

KJ: [stealing Jake's popcorn] By recreating the first time they met!

Jake:[pulling the bag of popcorn away from KJ hand] It won't work!

KJ: Vicky said it would!

Jake: [laughing] Vicky is wrong!

Enter Jason walking down the dock stairs

Jason: Can I quote you on that Mr. Mckinnon?

Jake and KJ turn around.

Jake: Yeah, I will put it in the obituary column, because that is where I will end up if I let that stay on the record.

Jason: [looking at KJ] So, what movie did you see?

Jake:[clamping KJ's mouth with his hand] Antz! We. . . we saw Antz!

Jason: [taking Jake's popcorn and looking at KJ] I must have been born yesterday

KJ: [smiling up a Jason] Jake was just going to tell me about the first time you and Laura met.

Jason:[looking at Jake] He was?

Jake: No I wasn't! I don't even know how they first met [looking at Jason]

KJ: [opened mouth and hitting Jake] Don't lie, you were too and Vicky said you did!

Both: [Jason and Jake] Vicky is wrong!

KJ:[walking away from Jake and Jason and up the stairs] Fine! I guess I will just have to ask Laura![swings her scarf around her neck]

Jake and Jason look at each other with worried looks.

Jake: What are you looking at me for? She is your respondsibility!

Jason: I think I liked her better when she wasn't talking

Scene 31

Characters: Vicky and Laura
Setting: Laura's psych office

Vicky knocks on the door and no one answers. Being ever so curious, she tries the handle and the door opens to reveal Laura sleeping at her office desk.

Vicky: holding her hand in a fist to her mouth and coughs]

Laura: [lifting her head and getting a little yellow sticky note paper stuck to her cheek] What time is it?

Vicky: Late!

Laura:[looking at her watch] What are you doing here this late?

Vicky: It seems that Jake let the boys eat too much junk at the movies. Kirk had a sore stomach, and being the so-called worry wart of a mother, I took him here!

Laura: Why are you in my office and not with Kirk? [takes off the note on her face after Vicky points to her cheek]

Vicky: [looking around and seeing empty packing bozes] Steven is with him. What's with the boxes?

Laura: I have a job offer from Seattle and. . .

Vicky:[interrupting Laura] What about Jason?

Laura: What about Jason?

Vicky: Does he know?

Laura: He knows, and he left the decision to me.

Vicky: Men! [mubles to herself] I have to step up this plan.

Laura: What plan?

Vicky: [Walking to the door] Nothing! I should be getting back to Kirk and Steven.

Laura: [places her hand on the door to keep Vicky from leaving] What are you up to Vicky?

Vicky has a shocked look on her face and Laura has a stern look on her face.

Scene 32

Characters: Jake, Jason, KJ
Setting: Jason's apartment

KJ is piggy backed in by Jason and Jake is left holding the door. Jason drops KJ off on the couch and sits beside her.

KJ: Tell me a story!

Jason: [looking at Jake and then to KJ] Would this be the story that you have been bugging me about all the way home in the car!

KJ: Yep [smiling]

Jason: Fine! First, get ready for bed, and then I'll tell you the story of how I met Laura.

KJ leaves to her bedroom and Jake quickly closes the door and whisper yells at Jason.

Jake: You can't be serious about telling her.

Jason: [picking up a magazine that was on the floor] I am not the one keeping secrets, Mckinnon! Besides, KJ won't tell!

Jake: Yes she will!

Jason: [turning his back to Jake and smiling] What's Vicky up to now?

Jake: She's trying to recreate the first time you and Laura met for Valentines Day!

Jason:[faces Jake and throws the magazine on the coffee table] What exactly is this supposed to do?

Jake: Get you two together finally!

Jason:[laughing] How was that going to work? [sitting down on the couch] She would be sleeping in her bed, and I would be sleeping with you!

Jake: True, the romantic evening would be hard to accomplish. [sitting beside Jason] I don't think Goliath is available, and Joe letting Vicky use the holding cell for the Huckle Buck, instead of holding criminals is probably out of the question!

Both are laughing on the couch as the scene ends

Scene 33

Characters: Vicky/Laura
Setting: Laura's office

Vicky is walking away from the door with a deer caught in the headlight look trying to figure out a way to get out of her predictament. Laura is following behind Vicky as she moves to the desk.

Laura: Spill it Mckinnon!

Vicky: [sitting on the desk and removing her purse from her shoulder] It was KJ idea!

Laura: [rolling her eyes sitting by Vicky on the desk] Sure it was

Vicky: No, it was. I'm serious

Laura: [playing along] O.k, what did little red have in store for me and Jason?

Vicky: [thinking she is off the hook] She wanted you and Jason to get together! Does she know about the job?

Laura: No, and don't you dare tell her! I still haven't made up my mind about it.

Vicky: Good! It gives me time! [taking her purse in her hand and bolts for the door surprising Laura]

Laura: [running to the door but to no avail as Vicky gets away]

The scene ends with Laura and Vicky on oppsite sides of the door with their back to it.

Scene 34

Characters: Jake/Jason
Setting: Jason's apartment

Jake:[accepting coffee from Jason] What are you going to do?

Jason: [pouring himself coffee] Tell her the story!

Jake:[sipping a coffee and making a disgusted face] I meant about Laura's job offer!

Jason:[pouring the coffe down the sink] What exactly do you want me to do Jake? It will still come down to her choice in . . .

Jake: Doesn't mean you have to make her choice an easy one. [walking to the front door] I got to go, but I am going to leave you with some words of wisdom.

Jason: [facing Jake and rolling his eyes] What pearls of wisdom do you have for me, OH Great One? [smiling]

Jake: [putting on his jacket] You got to her the first time you met, and she got to you that first time too!

Jason: How do you figure?

Jake: She didn't have to bail us out!

Jason watches as Jake closes the door and is snapped out of it by KJ speaking.

KJ: I'm ready for that story! [smiling and cheerful]

Scene 35

Characters: Jake/Vicky
Setting: Mckinnon Cottage

Jake tries to sneak into the bedroom thinking Vicky is asleep. He opens the door and peeks around the corner seeing not light on, and a lump under the covers. Jake's squeezing his way into the room so the light won't come in from the hallway and quietly tip toes to the bed and strips down to his boxers. He gets underneath the sheets and pulls closer to the sleeping Vicky and kisses her and gets a mouth full of pillow feathers.

Vicky: [coming into the room] Where have you been?

Jake:[looking at Vicky dressed in the gold nightgown that she wore on her honeymoon] Jason's! I dropped KJ off and we talked for awhile.[still spitting out some feathers]

Vicky: [walking seductively to the bed] Good! Now that you are back we could relieve some past memories.

Jake: [removing the covers and patting the pillows] What memories would that be?

Vicky: [sitting on the bed and bending over to kiss a laying Jake] Oh, the first time you met Jason and Laura. [picking up feathers from the cut open pillow and dropping them on Jake]

Jake: [watching her get up to leave the room] Vicky?

Vicky: [leaning against the door way and smiling devilishly] It's rather quite simple Mckinnon! Tell me how you met Jason, or you should get used to sleeping with that fluff that's next to you!

Jake: [smiling and covering his face with a pillow] What would be the difference?

Jake removes the pillow as the door slams shut with Vicky on the other side of the door.

Scene 36

Characters: Jason/KJ
Setting: KJ's room

Jason walks into the room and sits against the headboard of the bed as KJ smuggles up against him using his chest as a pillow.

Jason: So, where do you want me to start?

KJ: [smiling and looking up to him] The romantic part!

Jason: [turning his head and smiling] Going to be a short story.

KJ: Make it a long one, and don't leave anything out!

Jason: [bringing up the comforter over them] We met at a bar. . . I can't believe I am going to tell you this? I met both Jake and Laura at a bar

KJ: What was she wearing?

Jason: An orange silk blouse. . . I think! [holding up a strand of KJ's hair] Just like her hair
KJ:[interrupting Jason] and mine

Jason: [smiling] and yours. Should I continue, or do you want to ask me what Jake was wearing too?

KJ: Go on, you were at the bar!

Jason: Well, I was at the bar and I short of had a few too many and was leaning back on . . .

KJ: Too many what?

Jason: Drinks. Too many drinks. Can I finish this story, motor mouth? [watches KJ nod her head yes] I was leaning back on my chair and she walked by and I fell at her feet.

KJ: That's where you introduced yourself, right? Then, you danced the night away.

Jason: No! I introduced myself the next morning!

KJ: In the morning, why in the morning?

Jason: She bailed me and Jake out!

KJ: [getting up and looking at Jason's face]You were in jail, why?

Jason: A bar fight sort of... just happened! I was busy flirting with Laura and Jake was being tossed around the bar and he crashed into us spilling my drink on Laura.

Scene 37

Jake walks down the stairs to see Vicky in her nightgown on the couch eating ice cream watching t.v.

Jake: What's on?

Vicky doesn't answer and Jake tries to sit down but Vicky doesn't move legs.

Jake: [moving her legs and sitting down] What flavour ice cream?

Vicky flips an spoon full of ice cream at Jake, and hits him in the face.

Jake: [wiping the ice cream from his face an licking his fingers] Butter pecan? Its not your birthday, where's the rocky road.

Vicky: [angry tone] I felt like butter pecan

Jake: Fine! [getting up and looking down at a laying Vicky eating ice cream] We met at Sassy's! Laura, Jason and I, met at Sassy's.

Vicky: [getting up and feeding Jake a spoonful of ice cream] Was that so hard? Now I can recreate that date for them to get together!

Jake: I don't think Joe will let you [head to the kitchen for a extra spoon for the container]

Vicky: [following Jake to the kitchen] What does Joe have to do with this?

Jake: [trying to dig his way into the ice cream with Vicky pulling it away] Well, he arrested me and Jason!

Vicky: Arrested?

Jake: Yes [walking past Vicky and laying on the couch with Vicky standing at the divide from the living room and Kitchen]

Vicky: For what?

Jake: It wasn't my fault, I swear!

Vicky: [rolling her eyes] So, what did Jason do?

Jake: The bar fight wasn't Jason's fault! He was too busy flirting with Laura

Vicky: Then, who's fault was it?

Jake: [looking at Vicky] I can't tell you that, but what I can tell you is that Laura bailed both me and Jason out!

Vicky: [undoing her robe to reveal the night gown even further] Jake

Jake: It won't work, Vic! I'll sleep with the fluff upstairs!

Vicky:[shooting him the look] No secrets, remember Jake?

Jake: [trying desperately to not look at Vicky] All right, it was Allie! You can't tell Amanda, I promised Allie.

Scene 38

Characters: Jake/Vicky/Laura/KJ/Jason
Setting:Montage

The music is "Falling in Love Again" by Eagle-Eye Cherry

The musical ending of the show starts with Jake and Vicky sitting on the couch watching Roman Holliday. Jake has Vicky in his arms and playing with her hair as she is sleeping on his chest, while Jake is watching the movie not know she is sleeping.
The next brief scene is of KJ sleeping and Jason trying to get out from under her head without waking her, and he eventually does and we follow him to the living room. He walks to the window doors and opens it and watches the snow fall, and then the scene fades to Laura who is packing her office up and looks out her window at the falling snow. The song and montage end with a split screen of Jason and Laura staring out the window and KJ sleeping in her bed.
