Lovers, Part 1
Scene 1
Character: Vicky and Paulina
Setting: On the phone, Vicky in her living room, Paulina at Carlino’s
(Phone rings)
(Vicky picks it up)
Vicky: Hello
Paulina: Hey!! Okay spill it, what do you have planned?
Vicky: (confused look) Who is this and what are you talking about?
Paulina: Okay, now I’m insulted. You don’t even know your best
girlfriends voice.
Vicky: Oh, sorry Paulina just a little on edge.
Paulina: (Concerned voice) Why is that? Something wrong with you, Jake or
the boys?
Vicky: Hopefully nothing serious. I just have to go back to the doctor
and you know how much I hate them.
Paulina: (Concerned voice) Go back to the doctor, you sick?
Vicky: Hopefully now. I just haven’t been feeling well for the last
few days and I went to the doctor the other day and he ran some test and I have to go back
for the results.
Paulina: That would really be horrible being sick for your second
anniversary especially after what happened last year.
Vicky: (serious voice) Sick or not, I dont’ plan on missing this
anniversary.
Paulina: So back to my original question, what do you have planned?
Vicky: Well since my mother has the boys this weekend, Jake and I are
going to have a quiet, romantic candle lit dinner for two at home.
Paulina: (giggling) You’re planning on cooking?
Vicky: (sarcastic voice) Yeah right. I dont’ want Jake to be sick
all night long. I was wondering if you could tak care of the cooking for me, I would owe
you big time.
Paulina: Sure sweetie
Vicky: Oh yeah by the way, do me a favor and don’t tell Jake,
it’s a surprise. I gotta go now, I’ll call you later.

Scene 2
Characters: Jake, Paulina and extras
Setting: Carlino’s
(Paulina standing at the bar, Jake comes sneaking in)
Jake: (Sneaking up behind Paulina) Hey cupcake, What ya doing?
Paulina: (Jumping out of her skin) You jerk, you scared me! (slapping him
on the chest).
Jake: Sorry, just want to see what my best friend is up to.
Paulina: (mistakenly says) Which best friend are you talking about, me or
Vicky?
Jake: Well you, but now that you bring it up, what’s vicky up to?
Paulina: Well me, just running the restaurant. As for Vicky, why would
you think I’d know what she is up to?
Jake: Since I haven’t seen or talked to her all day, and you two are
such best girlfriends, and talk on the phone more than any other two people on Earth I
thought you’d know what she’s up to.
Paulina: (trying to keep from giggling) We don’t talk on the phone
that much.
Jake: Suuuure you don’t. I just have the phone bill to prove it.
Paulina: Well for your information I don’t know what Vicky’s up
to , I haven’t spoken to her at all today.
Jake: Ok maybe I should be sitting down, now that’s a shocker.
Paulina: Well believe what you want, but I gotta get back to work.
Jake: (looking at his watch) Damn, I’m late. I better get going too.
I have an advertising meeting at the office.
(Jake gives Paulina a kiss and races out the door)

Scene 3
Characters: Vicky and Doctor
Setting: Bay City University Hospital
(Vicky waiting anxiously in the doctor’s office for him to come in with the results)
(Doctor enters office)
Doctor: Hello, Mrs. McKinnon, how are you feeling today?
Vicky: Alright I guess, just nervous about the results of my tests.
Doctor: Most of the tests came back negative....
Vicky: (interrupting him in a serious voice) Most of thre tests?
Doctor: Relax, relax, you’re not dying or anything, the major ones
came back negative. But on very interesting one came back positive.
Vicky: (serious voice) what do you mean by interesting?
Doctor: (serious voice) Well, after you explained the symptoms you were
having, I asked them to run one test in particular, which came back positive.
Vicky: (getting edgy) So what’s wrong with me?
Doctor: (playful voice) With those symptoms I’m surprised you
haven’t figured it out already.
Vicky: You gonna keep me in suspence all day, or are you gonna tell me?
Doctor: Have you ever thought about adding another bedroom you your
house?
Vicky: You’re not saying what I think you’re saying...(shocked
expression) are you?
Doctor: I’m saying exactly what you’re thinking.
Vicky: I’M PREGNANT!?!?!?!
(Doctor sits on edge of desk in front of Vicky smiles and nods)
Vicky: (excited jumps up, hugs the doctor, then falls back in the chair
and says quietly) I’m pregnant. this is the best anniversary present I could ever
give Jake.
Doctor: Congratulations. Don’t forget to make an appointment to see
Dr. Klader soon.
Vicky: (smiling, leaving the office) Thank you so much for making this my
best anniversary ever.

Scene 4
Characters: Vicky, Nick, Remy, and extras
Setting: Bay City University Hospital
(Vicky racing from the doctor’s office runs into Nick)
Nick: (shocked expression) Yo, slow down there speed racer.
Vicky: (slapping Nick) Cute. So what are you doing here baby brother?
Nick: I was gonna as you the same question? As for me I’m here with
Remy.
Vicky: (curously) what happened to her?
Nick: She cut her hand at work and it look like it needed stitches. So
what are you doing here?
Vicky: (avoiding Nicks’ question) So how are things going with her?
Nick: (concerned voice) Vic, why won’t you answer my question?
Vicky: (playful) What question was that?
Nick: What are you doing here?
Vicky: well I was getting some test results back
Nick: (concerned) Test results?
Vicky: Yeah, I haven’t been feeling well, and I came here the other
day and the doctor ran some tests.
Nick: So what’s wrong with you?
Vicky: He said nothing serious.
Nick: Okay, so he said nothing serious, but what is wrong?
(Remy enters)
Remy: (to Nick) All done!! (turns to Vicky) Hey Vicky!
Vicky: Hey Remy.
Nick: So???
Remy: 18 stitches and the doctor told me to take a few days off.
Vicky: Damn, 18 stitches, what’d you do?
Remy: I was in Carlino’s kitchen chopping vegetables when...
Nick: I snuck in the back way, and scared the hell outta her...
Remy: causing me to miss the vegetables and hit my hand. So what are you
doing here, Vic?
Nick: That’s exactly what I’m trying to find out
Vicky: Like I said, getting results from some tests.
Nick: So what’s wrong with you?
Vicky: When I wanna tell you, I will. I gotta go pick up the boys,
I’ll talk to you later.
(Vicky leaves)
Remy: What was that all about?
Nick: Just Vicky being Vicky?
