Friends and Lovers, Part 10

Scene 28
Characters: Vicky, Chris, Joe, Paulina, Doctor and Extras
Setting: Bay City University Hospital

(Vicky running through hallway with Chris behind her, both stop at the nurses station)

Vicky: (franticly to nurse) My husband was just brought in.. where is he?

Nurse: What’s his name?

Vicky: Jake, Jake McKinnon

Nurse: (looking at charts) You husband is in surgery, Mrs. McKinnon

Vicky: (stumbles backwards into Chris’s arms) Surgery???

Chris: What do you mean surgery? What happened to him?

Nurse: I don’t know any details, you have to wait for the doctor

(Enter Joe and Paulina)

(Paulina spots Vicky pacing the hall and runs over and the two embrace with tears in their eyes)

Paulina: (pulling away) Where is he? Is he OK?

(Vicky tries to speak but breaks down)

(Paulina hugs Vicky again and looks to Chris with questioning eyes)

Chris: All we know is that he is in surgery, and we’re waiting for the doctor.

Vicky: This is all my fault. If I wouldn’t have played this prank he would never have been on the freeway.

Paulina: Don’t blame yourself Vicky, the prank was my idea.

Joe: Would the two of you stop blaming yourselves, we won’t know what happened until either Jake wakes up or the Department finds something.

(Vicky and Paulina are about to respond to Joe when the doctor walks over)

Doctor: Mrs. McKinnon?

Vicky: Yes.. that's me

Doctor: I’m Doctor Jeffrey, I was just with your husband.

(Paulina grabs Vicky’s hand)

Vicky: How is he? Is he OK? When can I see him?

(Scene fades as Doctor Jeffrey looks at Vicky sympathetically)

Exit Scene

Scene 29
Characters: Vicky, Chris, Joe, Paulina, Doctor, Nick, Remy, Donna, Steven and Kirkland
Setting: BCUH

(Doctor still looking at Vicky sympathetically, as Vicky, Chris, Joe and Paulina have frightened looks on their faces)

Vicky: (frantic) What happened? Is he OK? He’s not....

Doctor: No, he’s in critical condition but he made it through surgery.

Paulina: Why was he in surgery? What kind of injuries does he have?

(As the doctor is about to answer in come Nick, Remy, Donna, Steven and Kirkland)

Nick: Vick, I just heard how is he?

Steven: Yeah, mom, is Jake gonna be OK?

Vicky: (hugs Steven and Kirkland) What are you two doing here?

Steven: We heard about the accident on TV and we wanted to be here for you mom.

Vicky: Thanks, boys.. (turns to doctor) You were saying.

Doctor: Well, he suffered a lacerated liver, a ruptured spleen and 4 broken ribs.

Vicky: Anything else?

Doctor: Well, yes, he’s got a concussion and 25 stitches in his forehead.

Vicky: (crying) When can I see him?

Doctor: He’s still unconscious, but you can go in if you make it short.

(Paulina hugs Vicky and the scene fades as Vicky heads towards Jake’s room)

Exit Scene

Scene 30
Characters: Vicky, Jake, Joe, Josie and Extras
Setting: Jake’s room and hallway

(Vicky is walking into Jake’s room and Josie is walking towards Joe)

Joe: What you find out?

Josie: From what we can tell it looks like Jake was trying to avoid hitting something on the road.

Joe: Any ideas what it was.

Josie: Nothing yet, the squad is still searching the accident site.

Cut to Jake and Vicky

Vicky: (sitting next to Jake in a chair holding his hand and crying) I’m so sorry!  The accident was all my fault, I should have never tried to trick you. I should have told you last night in bed what I wanted to tell you at dinner, but because you didn’t show, I needed a new way to tell you and I thought this was a good way but now you go and get yourself hurt. What am I going to do with you McKinnon? I don’t know if you can hear me, Jake.  I can’t do this on my own. I hope you can hear me because I am gonna tell you what I wanted too last night. Jake, I’m pregnant. So I need you here with me, I can’t raise our daughter without you.

Flash into Jake’s head

Dream Sequence

(Jake and Vicky are on the swing set and all you hear are the words, Jake, I’m pregnant, I can’t raise our daughter without you)

(Scene fades as we see Vicky sleeping in the chair still holding Jake’s hand and Jake’s fingers begin to move)
