Friends and Lovers, Part 5

Scene 14
Characters: EttaMae, Toni, Josie and Vicky
Setting: The Lucky Lady

(EttaMae is behind the bar, Toni and Josie are sitting at the bar talking. Vicky enters and slams her bag on the table and sits)

EttaMae: What’s wrong, baby?

Vicky: Oh nothing, I am just going to kill my husband.

EttaMae: What did he do now?

Vicky: Nothing, I don’t wanna talk about it right now.

(EttaMae heads back to the bar)

Toni: What’s wrong with her?

EttaMae: Jake did something (Picks up the phone)

Josie: What are you doing?

EttaMae: She needs her friends right now

(Begins to dial)

Cut to the Cottage

(Jake arrives home, calling for Vicky. House is in darkness. Turns on light and sees the table set for 2, half burned candles and the veal picotta on the table. Looks at the answering machine.)

Jake: She must have gotten the message, but why do I have the feeling that I am still a dead man?

Scene 15
Characters: Vicky, EttaMae, Toni, Josie, Paulina, Alli, Amanda and Marley
Setting: The Lucky Lady

(EttaMae, Toni and Josie are sitting with Vicky trying to get her to talk. Alli and Amanda are sitting at a separate table)

(Enter Paulina)

Paulina: SO, did you get it out of her?

EttaMae: (jokingly) Nope and this is the longest I have ever seen her keep her mouth shut.

(Vicky shoots a look at EttaMae)

Toni: All we know is that it concerns Jake.

(Cut to Alli and Amanda)

Alli: I wonder what’s wrong with Vicky.

Amanda: Jake probably smartened up and left her.

Alli: He wouldn’t do that, he loves her.

(Cut back to Vicky, Paulina, EttaMae, Toni and Josie)

Paulina: Sweetie, what happened to your romantic dinner?

(Vicky just looks at her)

Paulina: No he didn’t.  he never came home?

Vicky: Nope

Josie: Maybe he has a good reason.

Vicky: He might, but he couldn’t call and tell me?  I really wanted this tonight. I had the best gift I could give him.

(Alli and Amanda walk by and Alli stops after over hearing)

Alli: What is it?

Amanda: She might not want to tell.

Vicky: Well, since I can’t tell him tonight and I have to tell someone. who better than my friends?

Paulina and EttaMae: OK, spill it!!!

Vicky: Well, let's just say Jake and I will be adding another bedroom to the house.

(Screams of happiness erupt)

Paulina: No way

Vicky: Yes way

EttaMae: How long have you known?

Vicky: I found out yesterday. I’m sorry guys but I wanted Jake to be the first to know, and that plan went out the window.

Paulina: Is that what you found out at the doctor’s today?

Vicky: Yep. The only people who know are all of you and the boys.

Toni: So when are you gonna tell Jake.

Vicky: As of right now I have no idea. I am so mad at him right now.

Paulina: Well, you wanna get back at him?

Vicky: Oh yea.

(Women put their heads together and come up with a plan)

(Enter Marley)

Marley: What’s going on?

Alli: Vicky is pregnant and we are trying to come up with a payback for Jake.

Vicky: (hitting Alli) I didn’t want anyone else to know.

Marley: Congratulations, Vicky, but why are you trying to pay back Jake?

Paulina: She was gonna tell him at dinner tonight but he never came home. So she wants him to figure our what’s going on.

Marley: Well, he’s home now. I just drove by your place.

Vicky: OK, let me go then. I will call you all tomorrow to finish out this plan.

Paulina: Vicky, why don’t me, you and Remy do some shopping tomorrow.

Vicky: Sounds like a good idea, Talk to you tomorrow.

(Vicky walks out the door)

Vicky: Look out, McKinnon. You're in for it now.

Scene 16
Characters: Jake and Vicky
Setting: The Cottage

Jake: (on the phone) OK Donna, where is she?...... If she was here do you really think I would have called.......So you haven’t seen or heard from her...

(Vicky comes in the door)

Jake: (Cont’d) Forget it, Donna.. (hangs up)..(to Vicky)... Where have you been?

Vicky: I could ask you the same question? You were supposed to be home at....

Jake: I know at 7.

Vicky: So what was so important at the office that you couldn’t call me?

Jake: Didn’t you get my message?  I wasn’t at the office.

Vicky: What message?

Jake: The one I left on the answering machine

Vicky: NO, I never got it. I’ve been a little busy as you can see. So if you weren’t at the office, where were you?

Jake: In Chicago.

Vicky: Chicago???

Jake: Yes, one of my reporters was sick and everyone else had assignments so I had to cover the story. I tried to get back by 7 but I hit traffic.

Vicky: You couldn’t call on your cell phone?  thats what they are for.

Jake: My phone went dead.

Vicky: Nice try, McKinnon

Jake: Vick, look I am sorry and I bet I know what I can do to get you to forgive me (Pulls her close to him)

Vicky: Oh yeah.

Jake: Yeah..(Passionately kisses her, picks her up and carries her upstairs)

(cut to bedroom)

(Jake carries Vicky in the room and lays her on the bed, there are candles flickering all over the room. Jake sits on the edge of the bed, Vicky sits up and kisses him. Jake begins unbuttoning Vicky’s shirt, she is doing the same thing to him. He lays her back and crawls on top of her.)

(Cut to Jake and Vicky lying in bed, her head on his chest. Jake playing with her hair).

Jake: That was...

Vicky: Amazing, but you are still in trouble.

Jake: I said I was sorry, but if you can’t forgive me then your not going to get your present.

Vicky: (face lights up) Present, where is it?

(Jake pulls out a box form under the bed, Vicky reaches for it)

Jake: Uh uh, not until you say you forgive me.

Vicky: OK, your forgiven. Now give me!!!

(Jake hands her the box. She opens it and finds a white silk teddy and a note that says, "Dear Vicky, Happy Anniversary!!, to be worn when we are trying to make a baby. Love Jake)

Vicky: Jake, we haven’t discussed a baby in a while.

Jake: Well you wanna try again.

Vicky: Yes!!

(They kiss)
