Scene 22
Characters: Jake, Chris and extras
Setting: The Herald
(Jake enters, Chris is at his desk, picks up the phone and dials)
Chris: (whispering) He just walked in. (hangs up the phone)
Jake: Hey Chris, whatz up?
Chris: Not much, slow news day today.
(Jake goes into his office and closes the door. Mail Man enters)
Mail Man: I have a letter for a Jake McKinnon.
Chris: I’ll take it, he is at a meeting.
(Chris signs for the letter. Mail Man leaves. Chris turns, cracks a devious smile and
walks into Jake’s office)
Chris: This was just delivered.
(Jake opens the letter, reads it then bolts out the door. Chris picks up the letter and
reads it)
Chris: Dear Mr. McKinnon, Being the one who paid for us to revitalize the
park I regret to inform you that the Lassiter Parks Department is going to be destroying
the playground to make a public parking lot. Sincerely, A Concerned Citizen. (to himself)
Good thinking Vicky.

Scene 23
Characters: Vicky, Steven and Kirkland
Setting: Cottage
(Boys run in the house and head straight for the kitchen for a snack, Vicky sits on the
couch deep in thought. The boys join her on the couch.)
Steven: Mom, what are you thinking about?
Vicky: Sorry honey, some of Jake’s friends and I are playing a game
with him.
Kirkland: why?
Vicky: Well he never came home last night for dinner, so a few of us got
together and decided to play a game with him.
Steven: So you didn’t tell him about the baby yet
Vicky: Nope, at the end of the game he will figure it out.
Steven: So did you start the game yet.
Vicky: (looking at her watch) yep, about 10 minutes ago.
Kirkland: Jake is gonna be so surprised when he finds out.
Vicky: (jokingly) If he doesn’t kill me first for putting him
through this.
Steven: He’s gonna be to ecstatic to think about what you are
putting him through.
Vicky: Yea, I guess you’re right.
Steven: (cautiously) Mom, have you told Nana yet?
Vicky: No, not yet sweetie. Why?
Kirkland: She knows.
Vicky: (suspiciously) How does she know?
Kirkland: Steven told her
Steven: Did not. We were working on a list of baby names and she figured
it out.
Vicky: Forget Jake, she is gonna kill me.
Exit Scene
Scene 24
Characters: Jake
Setting: His Car, heading to Lassiter
Jake: I can’t believe that they are gonna destroy the park, what are
they thinking? They could put a parking lot anywhere in that town, but they chose the
park. I gotta get there and put a stop to this.
(Jake begins to drive faster, while driving he thinks about all the time he and Vicky
spent there. Song playing in background “This Used to be My Playground” by
Madonna. We start off with them as kids, we see Jake pushing her on the swing, and burying
Houdini the hamster, flash to when he asked her for the money to pay off the loan shark,
flash to when they met in the park after they thought he was dead, flash to them dancing
in the park the night he proposed to her, the final flash is when Vicky proposed to him.)
(Jake comes back to reality and is even more upset over what they are planning on doing to
the park, he starts driving faster, suddenly he sees headlights coming towards him. He
honks his horn to warn the other car that they are in the wrong lane, but the other car
doesn’t respond and is driving at an accelerated rate. Jake swerves his car, and a
loud crash is heard.)
(As the scene fades out we see Jake in his car, which as gone through the road barrier and
flipped over, covered in blood.)
