Jake's Dream, Part 3
SCENE 8
FADE IN: Chris and Amanda are continuing their one sided conversation of where Jake could be. The harbour club is getting busy as the early morning becomes late afternoon, and Jake is no where to be found for his meeting with Amanda.
AMANDA: [standing in front of Chris] So, who is he with Madison?
CHRIS: [reaching in his pocket for a pack of cigarettes] Great! Calling me by my last name. [muttering to himself] Next, a sexy lean on the bar and a smilethat God would be tempted by.
AMANDA: [leaning against the bar and smiling coy] Chris
CHRIS: [looking at the heavens above and whispering to himself] And the tone of voice. [looking at Amanda] He is on a case with a good looking dame. Be gentle.
GRANT: [walking behind the bar] Well, I think she already knew that was coming. However, you have to give McKinnon credit, the only thing he is loyal to is my bottles. [staring at both Chris and Amanda] Can I buy you a drink, my dear?
AMANDA: [looking at Grant with his head propped up on the bar and grinning like a cat that ate a canary] I don't drink with men that are as slimy as sewer dwelling water snakes.
GRANT: I'll take that as a compliment. [watches Amanda walk away]
FADE OUT: Grant is leaving the back of the bar, as Chris turns to see Amanda exit the club. Chris stands alone raising his glass for good luck for Jake..
SCENE 9
FADE IN: Jake and Vicky are being interrogated by Capt. Carlino in Marley's room at the Bay City Towers. Jake is sitting on the bed and Vicky is sitting on a chair, as Joe is walking back and forth between them.
JOE: [standing in front of Jake] Now let me get this straight. Miss Hudson .. .
JAKE: [interrupting] Vicky
JOE: Excuse me
JAKE: [looking at Vicky sitting in her chair] She likes to be called Vicky, not Victoria, just Vicky.
JOE: [walking to where Vicky is sitting, leaving a smiling Jake] You hired this booze hound to look into your sister's disappearance?
VICKY: [getting out of her seat and in Joe's face] Somebody had to! You guys didn't act when I came to you.
JAKE: [sitting on the bed when he hears a scrape at the closet door] Umm. . .[tries to get Vicky's attention behind Joe's back]
VICKY: [noticing Jake's attempt] I think you should be going now, Captain.
JAKE: [getting up and walking to the door] Gee, I don't know about you, Carlino, but I think she wants you out of this investigation.
JOE: [walking to the door and then stops near Jake] This isn't over McKinnon! In the end, I will be the one that solves this murder, and you will still be that bum sleeping in a cardboard box.
JAKE: [looking at Vicky] Promises. Promises. [Jake shuts the door behindJoe]
VICKY: [watching Jake go to the closet] Why do I get the feeling that there is something going on between you and Captain Carlino.
JAKE: [struggling with the stuck closet door] Nothing that a few hundred dollars a week won't fix.
Vicky: Pardon me
JAKE: He's on the take! [gets the door open and a child bursts out and heads for the door]
FADE OUT: The child reaches the door but runs into Vicky's grabbing his arms and is caught by her. The child is in raggity clothes and his face is messed upas Jake is surprised that he may have a witness to what had happened with regards to Marley's disappearance.
SCENE 10
FADE IN: We see the empty hallway of Jake's office and a hand grasp the door with-- Mckinnon PI --on the glass in black letters. The door opens and the figure walks into the room and sits behind the desk and begins to open some of the drawers.
FADE OUT: The picture is in the persons glove hand and we see the chair spin around to reveal the back of the chair, instead of the face of the intruder.
SCENE 11
FADE IN: The Bay City Towers and Marley's room is still being occupied byJake, Vicky and the mystery boy. Jake is sitting across from the boy on one of the chairs, and the boy is on the couch. Vicky is sitting next to the child and staring at Jake.
VICKY: [breaking the silence] Why were you in the closet?
STEVEN: [not answering]
JAKE:[getting up and walking around] Alright kid. We have been here for more than 20 minutes and you haven't said a word. [walking to the where the child is sitting] Why were you in the closet?
STEVEN: [looking at Jake and then to Vicky]Why don't you ask blondie over here? She is the one that put me in there.
VICKY: [looking at Jake] He probably means my sister.
STEVEN: [looking at Jake] No, I mean sugar doll over here.
JAKE: [looking sternly at the kid] She has a twin, and watch your mouth around the dame.
VICKY: [hitting Jake in the arm] Lady.
JAKE: [gesturing Vicky to the corner of the room to talk] I think he might know what happened to your sister, Doll.
VICKY: [punching Jake again] You are setting a bad example for that kid with regards to treating a lady.
JAKE: [rubbing his arm and looking behind Vicky to check on the child] I don't think that will be a problem.
VICKY: [getting a curious look on her face] What do you mean?
JAKE: [points to the couch] He's gone!
VICKY: [running to the door] We have to find him!
JAKE: We are not going to find him. He's gone.
VICKY: [standing in the door frame] We have to find him. He is only a child and he couldn't have gone too far.
JAKE: [walking to Vicky] A kid like that. . .
VICKY: [sticking up for the child] A kid like what
JAKE: He has been on the street for a very long time. If he doesn't want to be found, then he is not going to be found. At least not today.
VICKY: You said he might know where my sister is. We have to find him.
JAKE: [looking surprised] What's with this we? [looking at his watch] I have to be somewhere. [running to out the door and then back into the door frame] We will look for him in the morning.
VICKY: [Left alone in the room] I can't wait that long.
FADE OUT: Vicky grabs her purse and heads out the door in a rush to find the child.
SCENE 12
FADE IN: We are back in the office of PI Mckinnon and we see Jake walk down the hallway whistling a tune. He is about to reach for the door as he sees it ajar slightly. He removes his hat with one hand and holds it down to his side and his other hand pushes the door slightly open and takes a look in.
AMANDA: [laying on the desk with a slit on her red gown showing her leg] About time stranger.
JAKE: [throwing his hat on the coat rack and removes his coat and tie] I thought that I we were supposed to meet at the club.
AMANDA:[swinging her legs over the side of the desk and crosses them] We were, but I decided to change the venue.
JAKE: [walking to the liquor cabinet] So, what did you find?
AMANDA: [acting coy] Find?
JAKE: [walks over to where she is sitting and hands her a drink] Yes, find.
AMANDA: Absolutely nothing, Jake.
JAKE: Nothing, huh? [wraps his arms around her and lifts her off the desk]
AMANDA: [surprised as she is on her feet now] What did you do that for?
JAKE: [walking to his chair and muttering to himself] Checking for knives.
AMANDA: [walking around the desk and sitting on Jake's lap] Beg your pardon!
JAKE: [looking Amanda in the face] Nothing! [takes his hand and places it on the back of her neck and brings her lips to his]
FADE OUT: Jake and Amanda are kissing in the chair as a mystery figure lurks outside the office looking in on them.
