Jake's Dream, Part 8
SCENE 33
FADE IN: Jake pulls up in the driveway of the Cory Estate as the rain begins to
fall even harder, verging on a serious storm. Amanda comes running out of the
mansion and meets Jake, who has Allie in his arms. Allie is still semi-conscious
of her whereabouts.
AMANDA: [brushing her daughters face with her hand] Allie, honey!
[looking at Jake with concern] What’s the matter with her? Why isn’t she answering?
JAKE: [carrying and stopping by the door] She was drugged. Let’s get
her into the house before she catches pneumonia.
MATTHEW: [running up to Jake] Here, let me take her.
JAKE: [ignoring him and heading straight up the stairs]
CARL: [walking out of the living room with towels in hand and handing one
to Vicky] Here you go.
VICKY: [dripping wet] Thank you.
CARL: [looking at Vicky staring up the stairs] Come now. They will be
fine. There is a little boy that seems to have fallen asleep on the chesterfield
waiting for you to return.
VICKY: [looking forgetful] I am so sorry. I forgot all about him.
CARL: [looking a little confused]
VICKY: He isn’t mine. He was trapped in a hotel room closet that Jake .
. . [seeing Carl look at her with intrigue] I mean Mr. Mckinnon and I
investigated.
CARL: We will let the young lad sleep, and we can talk about your
situation in the library.
FADE OUT: Carl starts to head to the library through the living room
passage and Vicky
is left drying her hair with a towel in the foyer. Vicky throws the towel on the
foyer table
and looks up toward the staircase as the scene ends.
SCENE 34
FADE IN: Early morning. Jake is just getting into his office as the sun
is rising. He enters the office and sees Chris sleeping in his chair with his
feet up on the desk.
JAKE: [scratching his chin as the 5 o’clock shadow is itching] Chris
wake up.
CHRIS: [still asleep]
JAKE: [slapping Chris’ feet off the desk awakening him] Did I wake you?
CHRIS: [looking up at Jake] Well, you look like death warmed over. So,
either Amanda decided to kill you and the pact that you made with the devil is
working. Or, that
mysterious blonde got you into a mess that made you look like this. Either way,
it is a vast improvement than the normal way you look.
JAKE: [too tired to shoot Chris a dirty look] Funny.
CHRIS: [getting up to allow Jake his chair back] What happened?
JAKE: [un-tucking his shirt and relaxing in his chair] Allie was
kidnapped, found, and now sleeping in her bed. I stayed with Amanda and Allie
until they fell asleep.
CHRIS: [looking at Jake] Does it have anything to do with twins? [taking
out a pack of cigarettes]
JAKE: [shrugging his shoulders and throwing a pack of matches on the
desk] Well, the only one that seems to know the answer to that is Vicky, and she
claims to know nothing.
CHRIS: [looking at Jake as he picks up the matches to lite the cigarette]
So. . . [takes the cigarette out of his hand] do you believe her? [sitting down
in the opposing chair]
JAKE: [taking the matches in his hand and looking at the cover] No. There
is something
she is hiding about this whole thing.
CHRIS: Like she might not have a twin after all.
JAKE: [looking confused]
CHRIS: [grabbing the picture and handing it to Jake] Maybe it is her. She
decided to arrange the whole thing.
JAKE: [looking at the picture] No, she does have a twin. She’s not
lying about that, but she might be lying about the kidnapping. I don’t know, I
just don’t know. There is
something about her, but I just can’t figure out what she is hiding. Whoever
kidnapped Allie to throw me off of this case just got way too personal for their
own good.
FADE OUT: Jake is left with a determined look on his face and staring at
Chris.
SCENE 35
FADE IN: Cory living room. Carl has just entered the living room foyer
and sees Vicky and Steven about to sneak off.
CARL: [speaking loud] Going somewhere, are we?
VICKY: [jumping a bit at the voice] I was just. . .
CARL: [putting up his hand] No need to explain. You are not being held
captive her, but it's just. . .
VICKY: [looking at Carl like he is about to hit on her] Just what?
CARL: It is just that you would have been. . . [leaning with two hands of
the foyer table and sighing]
VICKY: [walking to Carl’s side and looking concerned] I would have
been. . .
CARL: [looking Vicky in the eye] You would have been a perfect match for
my son.
VICKY: [taken aback by Carl’s forwardness] I. . . I have. . . I have to
go now. I need to talk to Jake. . . uh . . . Mr. Mckinnon about my sister’s disappearance.
FADE OUT: Carl is regretting his statement, but is silent as Vicky and
Steven walk out
the door.
SCENE 36
FADE IN: RYAN’ S HOTEL ROOM. Marley and Ryan are just getting dressed.
Marley is by the mirror putting on her clothes as Ryan is sitting on the bed
putting his socks on.
RYAN: You never wear those kind of clothes.
MARLEY: [doing up her blouse] Honey, I have to look the part of my trampy
twin to fool our Dear Mr. Mckinnon. Otherwise, our plan won’t work.
RYAN: [putting on his shirt] Do you think this is a good idea? What if he
figures out that you aren’t Vicky?
MARLEY: [walking over and standing in front of a sitting Ryan near the
bed] Trust me. Mckinnon will be so sloshed, that he will think that red
head will look like Vicky. So,
how will he possibly think that me, as her identical twin, will not be sweet
Victoria?
RYAN: [grabbing her waist and pulling her closer to him] And how do you
know he will be as drunk as you say he will?
MARLEY: [pushing Ryan back down on the bed] Not now Ryan! You have to get
started on the little scene in Jake’s office.
RYAN: [looking surprised] What scene?
MARLEY: [straddling Ryan’s lap] The scene where Jake is passed out and
smelling like liquor, where he sees me, instead of Vicky. And little old
Amanda Cory sees me laying on Jake’s chest.
FADE OUT: Ryan is kissing Marley as the scene ends on the bed in their
hotel.
SCENE 37
FADE IN: Playground at Bay City Park. Vicky is strolling around the park
looking for Steven, who ran away again. Jake is trying to think and usually
comes to the park as a
way to get his head on straight.
JAKE: [bumping into Vicky by accident] You!
VICKY: [throwing her arms in the air] For crying out loud. .
JAKE: Why is it that no matter where I go, you keep following me?
VICKY: [getting disgusted with the notion] I am most certainly not
following you! That would imply that you have some significance in my life. And
believe me, Mr. Mckinnon, you are not that important.
JAKE: [getting in Vicky’s face] Well, listen here Miss Hudson! That
little stunt you pulled last night almost got the only real thing I care about
killed. I don’t know who you think you are dealing with, but I certainly
don’t intend to forget that.
VICKY: [getting even closer to Jake to combat his move] She is safe in
her bed, and I am not the one that kidnapped your daughter. Further more,
[seeing Jake take a step back and look like he saw a ghost] I do not appreciate.
. . Why are you looking at me like that?
JAKE: [taking even more steps backward] Daughter? . . . Why would you
think. . . Allie. . . Daughter?
VICKY: [following Jake taking his steps backwards] You mean that she
isn’t your daughter?
JAKE: [circling around to the other side of the swings] Why would you think she
is?
VICKY: You are so protective of her, it only seems natural . . .
JAKE: Hold on. Just because I am protective of her . . .
VICKY: [sitting down on the swing with Jake behind her] Well, it has been
my understanding with men, that only father’s love kids.
JAKE: [sitting down beside Vicky on the other side] Somebody must have
worked you over pretty good.
VICKY: [getting up out of the swing] So why do you care for her the way
that you do? Is it because of Amanda?
JAKE: [swinging on the swing and dragging his feet to stop] No.
VICKY: [turning around looking confused] What?
JAKE: [smiling] You've seen her! That is all I need to be protective of
her.
VICKY: [sitting down on the swing next to Jake] Amanda has something to
do with it though.
JAKE: [his turn to get out of the swing and avoid the question] You can
ask me anything about Allie, but don’t go near anything that has to do with
Amanda and me.
VICKY: O.k! Tell me the real reason that you care for Allie.
JAKE: [getting annoyed] I just did!
VICKY: You’re lying
JAKE: You have only known me for a few days, and you can tell when I am
lying. Sorry, Hudson, but the only person that can tell when I am lying is
Allie.
VICKY: [getting up off the swing and standing behind Jake] So, she is
your confidant?
JAKE: [rolling his eyes] Fine. Here it is in black and white. [turning
around to see that Vicky was standing behind him] She is the only one in that
family that I feel I can be
myself around. No worrying about what she thinks, what I do, or what I say!! She
accepts me for who I am, and who she thinks I can be. Simple as that. [walking
to the swings and holding onto the chains] Why am I telling you all of this?
VICKY: [looking around the park] I think it’s the park. They always
seem to bring out my inner child. That innocence that was locked up in the
closet when we grew older.
Kind of reminds me of my childhood. I grew up in a. . .
JAKE: [looking at Vicky]. . . park like this.
FADE OUT: jake is by the swing set, and Vicky is standing staring at him,
and vice versa.
