Jake and Vicky: What Should Be Happening

Chapter 1

Scene 1

Characters: Vicky and Paulina
Setting: Vicky and Jake’s cottage

(Paulina and Vicky are in the kitchen getting tea and walking back into the family room.)

PAULINA: (as she sits down on the couch) Is anything wrong, Vicky? You’ve been quiet ever since I got here.
VICKY: (sounding anything but convincing) Not really. Everything is going great.
PAULINA: Why don’t I believe that?
VICKY: (Sitting her drink on the coffee table) Well you know Jake and I are trying to have a baby.
PAULINA: Yeah, Jake is so excited.
VICKY: I know, he’s going to be a great father.
PAULINA: So what’s the problem then?
VICKY: We’ve been trying for months and nothing has happened. I’m starting to get a little worried. Jake and I want this baby so much.
PAULINA: Maybe you guys should take a break then. I’m sure Jake would understand.
VICKY: (nodding) I hope so.
PAULINA: Listen, I’m sorry I can’t stay, but I’ve got to get to the restaurant. Joe is not going to be a happy camper if I’m late.
VICKY: (gets up to hug Paulina) Thanks for the talk. I feel a lot better.
PAULINA: Let me know how everything goes. And trust me we’ll having a baby shower for you in no time.

Scene 2

Characters: Vicky and Jake
Setting: Their bedroom

(Jake crawls into bed next to Vicky and kisses her sweetly on the cheek a couple of times and then once on the lips. Vicky smiles at him.)

JAKE: So, I’ve been thinking about this all day. What do you say we have a baby making session?
VICKY: Jake, I think we need to talk.
JAKE: (gets a worried look on his face) Ok, I don’t like this already.
VICKY: I think we’ve just been trying too hard with this whole baby thing. I think if we just take a little break that -
JAKE: (put his finger up to Vicky’s lips, then kisses her softly again) You don’t have to say another word. I don’t want you to get stressed out about this, Vick. If you think we need to take it easy for awhile, then that’s what we’ll do.
VICKY: Jake, you are so amazing. I don’t know how I got so lucky.
JAKE: No, I’m the lucky one. The most beautiful woman in the world wants to have a child with me.

(Vicky kisses Jake passionately)

JAKE: Its going to be really tough not to want you the way I want you right now.
VICKY: (laughing) Trust me, it will be worth the wait.

(Vicky snuggles up next to her husband as he puts his arms around her and kisses her on the head.)

JAKE: Goodnight, Vick.
VICKY: Night.

Scene 3

Characters: Jake, Stephen, Kirkland, Vicky
Setting: About a week later at the cottage

(Jake is sitting at the kitchen table in deep thought. Stephen and Kirkland walk in.)

STEPHEN: Jake, what are you doing?
JAKE: What?
STEPHEN: You were sitting here with a blank stare on your face.
JAKE: Oh, yeah. I’m trying to plan a romantic dinner for your mother if you must know. Wanna help?
KIRKLAND: Sure! What do we have to do?
JAKE: (picks Kirkland up and throws him on the couch) Well, let’s see. I think you guys can help decorate the bedroom.
STEPHEN: The bedroom, huh? I thought you were planning a dinner, Jake.
JAKE: I think you’re getting a little too smart for your own good, buddy. We are decorating the bedroom because I want it to remind your mom of the day we got married. Okay, huddle, here’s the plan.

(The three whisper for a few minutes and the boys run upstairs as Vicky comes in the front door with a bag of groceries.)

VICKY: Hey, what are they so excited about?

(Jake walks up and acquires the bag from Vicky and gives her a quick peck.)

JAKE: I told them they could spend the weekend at Tommy Gellar’s house.
VICKY: Oh, you did? (follows Jake into the kitchen) You aren’t trying to be alone with me, are you McKinnon?
JAKE: (with that Jake look on his face) What would make you think that?

Scene 4

Characters: Jake & Vicky
Setting: Later that night.
Jake and Vicky are watching TV.

VICKY: I’m getting hungry. Should we get Chinese or pizza? I’m in more of a Chinese mood myself, but I know how much you love pizza. (reaching for the phone)
JAKE: (putting the phone back on the receiver) I have a surprise for you.
VICKY: Oh really? And what might that be?
JAKE: (smiling from ear to ear) Well, I’ll show you.

(He puts his hand over her eyes and starts leading her upstairs. He takes her to their bedroom and takes his hand away. The room is set up exactly like it was the night of their wedding.)

VICKY: Jake, I can’t believe you did this.
JAKE: I can’t take full credit. The boys did pitch in.

(Vicky tuns to look at Jake, kisses and hugs him.)

JAKE: Lets eat before the food gets cold.

(End of scene)

Scene 5

(Cuts back in on them sitting at the table)

VICKY: Have I told you lately how much I love you?
JAKE: Yes, but you can tell me again. (kisses her hand)
VICKY: I love you.
JAKE: I love you.
VICKY: (sits down on Jake’s lap and kisses him intensely) I mean, I really love you.

(Jake kisses her again.)

VICKY: And I really want you.
JAKE: (still kissing her) I thought we were taking a break.
VICKY: Bad idea on my part. I think we’ve waited long enough.

(Jake picks her up and carries her the short distance to their bed. They continue kissing. He brushes her hair off his face and kisses her passionately, caressing her body. He rolls over on top of her, then slowly begins to unbutton her blouse.)

(End of the scene)

Scene 6

(The afterglow - Vicky is lying in Jake’s arms with her head resting on Jake’s chest.)

VICKY: That was -
JAKE: (kissing her forehead) Incredible?
VICKY: (laughing) That’s one word for it. I feel so -
JAKE: Incredible?
VICKY: (lifts her head up and looks at Jake) Would you stop interrupting me, McKinnon? (lays her head back on his chest) I feel like, I can’t even describe it. I just feel different.
JAKE: A good different? Because I’m definitely feeling something good right now.
VICKY: (takes a pillow and hits Jake with it) Yes, a good different.

(Jake takes Vicky in his arms and they make love again.)
