Jake and Vicky: What Should Be Happening

Chapter 2

Scene 1

Characters: Jake and Vicky
Setting: The cottage bathroom

(VICKY is pacing around upstairs in the bathroom. SHE has something in her hand. JAKE knocks on the door.)

JAKE: Vick, are you okay in there?
VICKY: Yeah, honey I’m fine. I’ll be out in a minute.
JAKE: Okay, good. I want to take a shower.
VICKY: (looks at HER watch and then down at the stick, a huge smile comes across HER face) YES!
JAKE: What?! What are you doing in there?

Vicky hides the stick in a drawer and runs to open the bathroom door. She grabs JAKE and kisses him.

JAKE: I’ve never seen you this excited about me taking a shower. Do I really smell that bad?
VICKY: (laughing and kissing HIS neck) Well I was just thinking, the boys won’t be home from school for at least another hour. If its okay, maybe I could join you.
JAKE: Well, you certainly have been teasing me long enough. I think its about time we did take that shower together.

(THEY being removing each other’s clothes through kisses. Cut to JAKE and VICKY in the shower. JAKE is standing behind VICKY kissing the back of her neck. SHE turns around to face JAKE and kisses him sweetly. HE pulls HER close to him and THEY continue kissing very passionately.)

Scene 2

Characters: Jake, Vicky, Stephen, Kirkland
Setting: The cottage/ Later the same day

(JAKE and VICKY are downstairs getting dinner ready and the boys are watching TV.)

VICKY: (to JAKE) So, I was thinking we could probably take another shower tomorrow.
JAKE: You really think so?
VICKY: Unless you’re not interested.
JAKE: (runs his fingers through HER hair) I’m definitely interested. You just name the time and I’ll be there.

(Microwave beeps)

VICKY: Okay, dinner is ready!
STEPHEN: (from the other room) Ewwww, do you really expect us to eat another TV dinner?
KIRKLAND: Yeah, let’s get pizza. Come on mom!
VICKY: These TV dinners look great!
JAKE: (puts her hand on Vicky’s forehead) Are you feeling alright?
VICKY: (hitting him on the arm) Yes! I feel great, thanks.
STEPHEN: So, pizza?
VICKY: Yeah, I’ll call Carlinos. (To JAKE) You and the boys go pick up the pizzas and I’ll clean up around here.
JAKE: (kisses HER on the cheek) Cleaning now? Are you nesting or something?
VICKY: Very funny, Jake. Now get moving.

(JAKE and the boys leave. VICKY watches out the window and then runs over to the phone.)

VICKY: Hi, this is Vicky McKinnon. I’d like to order a couple of pizzas.

(End of scene)

Scene 3

Characters: Vicky & Jake
Setting: Next day / Cottage

(VICKY is upstairs in her bedroom wrapping up a little box. JAKE comes up behind her and wraps his arms around HER waist and kisses HER on the cheek.)

JAKE: So why don’t you fill me in?
VICKY: On what?
JAKE: I know you have something up that sexy sleeve of your’s. The big question is what.
VICKY: (turns around to face JAKE) You just think you’re so smart. As a matter of fact you’re just going to have to wait.
JAKE: (kisses HER) I’m sure I can change your mind.
VICKY: (kisses HIM back) Nope, not this time.
JAKE: Man! You’re tough.
VICKY: You’ll find out soon enough. We’re just going to take a little trip.
JAKE: Where are we going?
VICKY: Stop with the questions. (places HER hand on JAKE’s cheek) Trust me, you’ll like this. (SHE walks out of the bedroom and JAKE follows like a little puppy.)

Scene 4

Characters: Vicky and Jake
Setting: Lassiter Playground

JAKE: Why’d you bring me here?
VICKY: Because this is our special place.
JAKE: I thought you hated Lassiter.
VICKY: (Takes JAKE’S hands in HERS) I hate Lassiter, but I love this playground. We shared our first kiss here. (SHE kisses him) I found you here when I thought you were dead. (SHE kisses HIM again)
JAKE: We got engaged here.
VICKY: And now- (SHE pulls a small box out of HER purse and hands it to JAKE.
JAKE: (takes the box) What’s this?
VICKY: You’ll see. Just open it.
JAKE: (opens the small box and takes out a small rattle) A rattle?
VICKY: (hits JAKE on the arm) Yes, a rattle!
JAKE: Does this mean what I think it does?
VICKY: What do you think it means?
JAKE: I hope it means that we’re, that I’m, that you’re -
VICKY: Yes, we’re going to have a baby! (JAKE takes HER in his arms and holds HER tightly to him.)
JAKE: (a single tear trickles down HIS cheek) You have made me the happiest man in the whole world.
VICKY: (wipes the tear from HIS cheek) I can’t believe its finally real this time.
JAKE: How long have you known?
VICKY: Since that night we made love. I knew right then and there.
JAKE: (kisses HER stomach) There’s no other woman I would want to have my children, you know.
VICKY: (hugs JAKE) I’m glad.
JAKE: I love you, Vick.
VICKY: I love you too.
