Scene
20
Characters: Vicky & Donna
Setting: the cottage
(Vicky is sitting on the couch and Donna wheels in.)
VICKY (thinking to herself): He should have
gotten those balloons by now. I wonder if he will call? What is
wrong with me? This is Jake we're talking about. I better get
started on Step 2 pronto.
DONNA: Victoria? Are you okay?
VICKY(smiling). Oh. Yes I'm fine. I was just
thinking about my plan to get Jake back.
DONNA: Good. Is there anything I can help you
with?
VICKY: Not right now. But if everything works
out do you think you could take care of the boys for a few days?
I'm sure I could convince Etta Mae to help you.
DONNA: I think I can manage that. I'll be in my
room if you need me, darling. (she wheels out)
VICKY(heading to the kitchen and opens a cabinet and pulls out a
picnic basket and talking to herself) What should I send? Pizza?
Chinese? Oh, I know the perfect thing to send.
Scene 21
Characters: Jake & Chris & Delivery man
Setting: the herald
(Jake is working in his office and Chris is at his desk working.
The same delivery man from earlier walks past Chris and into
Jake's office.)
JAKE(looks up to see the delivery man standing
in his office with a picnic basket): You forget something this
morning?
DELIVERY MAN: Nope. Got another delivery for you
(sets the basket on the desk and turns and walks out) Enjoy!
CHRIS (walking in Jake's office): Another one,
huh?
JAKE: Yes. Think it's safe to open it?
CHRIS: Be brave my man, be brave.
JAKE (slowly opens the picnic basket and looks
inside. He starts laughing as he reaches in and pulls out a TV
dinner with a note taped to the top): She sent me a microwaved TV
dinner. (he pulls the note off and reads it to Chris) I know you
must be missing my cooking. P.S. I love you.
CHRIS (laughing): See that proves how much she
loves you. She wouldn't send a microwaved dinner to just anyone!
(Jake smiles and shakes his head.)
Scene 22
Characters: Vicky & Chris
Setting: the cottage
(Vicky is standing on the front porch. Chris arrives and they
walk inside together.)
VICKY: Thanks for coming over. I really
appreciate it.
CHRIS: No problem, Vicky. What do you need?
VICKY: I need your help.
CHRIS: With your plan to get Jake back home?
VICKY: Yes. Will you help me?
CHRIS: Of course, just tell me what you want me
to do. You guys belong together.
VICKY: Great! Okay, this is what I need.
Scene 23
Characters: Jake & Delivery Man
Setting: the herald
(Jake is going through papers on Chris's desk when the delivery
man walks in again.)
JAKE (looking up to see the delivery man and
gets a puzzled look) Back again?
DELIVERY MAN: Yes, sir. You must be very
important to one certain lady. (he hands Jake two small boxes and
an envelope and leaves)
JAKE (walking into his office and musing outloud
to himself): Wonder what she sent this time? (He opens the first
box to find a vcr tape which is labeled: "NYC trip-the day I
realized I was in love with you". Jake sets the tape on his
desk and opens the other box. He pulls out a small heart shaped
chocolate chip cookie which has "forever" written in
icing on it. With tears in his eyes he opens the envelope that
has a note which reads "Please meet me for dinner at our
swings at 6:30")
(Jake looks at the balloons, the figurine, the tape and the
cookie and smiles.)
