The Ties that Bind, Part 11
Setting : New York Apartment
Scene 1
Its now very late at night, Jake has taken Steven and Vicky to the apartment.
he carried Vicky through the door and set her down on the couch.
Vicky: Thank you, Jake. (giving him her best smile)
Steven: (looking around the apartment) Wow, this place is cool! I
wish Kirkland was here.
Jake: (walking over and putting the sign away that said welcome home,
"Jake, Vicky, & boys place" not wanting Steven to see it) … Well,
you're only going to be here for a few days and then you need to get back to Bay City and
back to school.
Steven: but, but…..
Jake: (putting his hand up) … Steven, you and I are going to have a
talk later. Now, I'm going to go and run down to the drugstore and get those pills
for Vicky, and I'll be back later. (Jake to Vicky) You can sleep in the master bedroom.
(he turns around and leaves)
Jake: (having walked out, closes the door and resting against it) Come on, man, you can do
this, it's only for a few days and then she'll be gone.
Fade out
Scene 2
Setting: Bay City
Amanda and Derek have finished their dinner and Derek has walked her back to the office.
Derek: It's been a pretty long day, so I think I will head back to my
hotel to get some rest, so I can beat you into the office.
Amanda: Is that a challenge I hear in your voice, Derek?
Derek: (giving her a smile) Do you want it to be??
Amanda: (laughing) boy, you are man just full of questions, aren't you?
Derek: that's my job . . . as a reporter!
Amanda: You still don't have me convinced that you're a full fledged
reporter. There's something to you and I'm going be the one to find that out.
Derek: Oh, you think so… do you? What, you think I'm holding back a
deep dark secret, that I'm just not some regular Joe?
Amanda: Oh, I don't think your regular at all, but there's something. . .
(putting her finger on her chin) about you….
Derek: I think I'm gonna enjoy my stay in Bay City after all. I'll
see you in the morning…..bright and early!
Amanda: Count on it!
EXIT
Scene 3
Setting: New York City Apartment
Jake has come back from the drug store. He walks into the apartment and on the
couch he sees that Vicky has fallen asleep, Steven is in one of the rooms asleep as well.
He walks over and puts the items down on the table. He slowly walks closer to
Vicky, forgetting how beautiful she looks when she's asleep. She has a little blanket that
has fallen half off of her. He gets closer and picks up the blanket and begins to cover
her up, and then slowly sits on the edge of the coffee table, which is very close to
Vicky. He stares at her for a while, just drinking up her beauty.
Jake: (Staring at Vicky sleeping)
Vicky: (Slowly waking up, streching her arms and turning around to look
at Jake) Oh, Hi Jake.
Jake: (gets up to leave) I have to go...
Vicky: (grabbing his arm) Don't go! Please don't leave me again.
(tears in her eyes) I love you, Jake Mckinnon, I always will…….. I'm sorry that
you cannot forgive me. (she sits up, in a soft voice) ……so I will leave you, and
never bother you again. (she tries to get up)
Jake: NO..…..NO…(softly) No, you cannot. (he gets off the
coffee table and is kneeling next to her on the couch, looking her in the eyes)…I….I…..love
you too much to let you go…… (he slowly puts his hand on her face and brings her
face to his, their noses touch and he lightly kisses her on the lips) …..always, and
forever. (she starts to kiss him back, she wraps her arms around his neck, they kiss for a
while, he picks her up from the couch in his arms and starts to head to the bedroom, still
kissing her)
Vicky: Jake…….Jake……..Jake
(Jake, coming out of his trance, just realized that he was having a dream about him and
Vicky. Vicky is still laying on the couch)
Jake: (shaking his head, to get that dream out of his head) uh…what?
Vicky: You looked a million miles away. what are you doing here
kneeling on the floor?
Jake: (flustered)…Oh, I ……uh I, your blanket fell, I was
just putting it back on you…(he gets up to leave again)
Vicky: Wait…wait..
Jake: What?
Vicky: I, um, need help getting to the bedroom, my back is beginning to
hurt laying here on the couch.
Jake: Oh, alright. (he goes over and picks her up, she wraps her arms
around his neck.
Vicky: (she puts her face into the side of his neck, smelling him) Hmmm
you smell good.
Jake: (he doesn't say a word, he takes her into the bedroom and puts her
on the bed, but she doesn't let go of his neck) Vick, let go..
Vicky: Jake…….. stay with me ……please (slowly letting
go of his neck)
Jake: …. No
Vicky: ..(softly) Why not?
Jake: You know why not. (moving back)
Vicky: Jake, do you honestly think that I would deliberately go out and
hurt you? Talk to me please…
Jake: (shaking his head) I don't know, Vick, I don't know you. I
try and try to think that maybe you had a good enough reason, but I just don't see how you
could put me aside like that.
Vicky: Put YOU aside?…. Jake, put YOU aside??? Jake, you need to
step back and look at us. We grew up together, not only as children, but as adults.
Everytime you spoke of being together forever, I believed you. are you telling me
now you didn't mean that?
Jake: (adamantly) NO, I meant it every time I said it!
Vicky: So, what now? When things get tough, when I make a mistake you're
gonna run away and the words "FOREVER" don't mean anything?
Jake: NO, I just thought those vows that you took about being faithful
meant something to you?
Vicky: Oh, and the vows you took about being there through good times and
bad didn't mean anything to you?
Jake: You're not playing fair!
Vicky: Fair? Of course I'm not playing fair! when my whole life is
standing right in front of me and that I may loose it, well, I'm not going to play fair
and you should know that.
Fade out
