Scene
1
Setting: Nick and Linda in an airplane on its way to New York
Nick and Linda are sitting together, Linda is by the window.
Nick: So, you're gonna make a delivery to Jake,
it looks like some kind of picture.
Linda: I'm not sure what it is, just that Derek
wants it delivered directly to Jake, so that's what I'll do.
Nick: (smiling at her) Well, I'm glad for the
company, it gives me a chance to get to know you.
Linda: Oh really, just because I've taken over
your desk, you want to see what kind of renter I am??
Nick: (laughing) Like I said, a beautiful woman
such as yourself can share my desk with me anytime.
Stewardess: May I get you something to drink?
Nick: No, I'm fine. Linda, do you need anything?
Linda: Oh, I think I'll just take a Diet Coke
please..
Stewardess: Coming right up..(smiling at Nick)
are you sure you don't want anything?
Nick: (not realizing that she is trying to pick
him up) No, no I'm fine, thanks.
Stewardess: Well, just let me know and I'll be
right here for you (slowly walks away)
Sitting behind Nick and Linda is….. Dee and she's keeping an
eye on them.
Linda: (laughing at bit) Seem's like she wants
to give you more than just a drink.
Nick: (looking surprised) Oh, come on, she's
just doing her job.
Linda: I don't think so, but hey if that's what
you want to believe.
Nick: Could we be a little jealous?
Linda: JEALOUS?? You don't even know me enough…
Nick: (quitely) Well, I would like to…

Scene 2
Setting: The Herald
Amanda is sitting at her desk on the phone
Amanda: Oh really, so what else did you find
out? ……hmmm, yes, yes
That's very interesting….
Derek: (walking in) Amanda, hey… (realizing
that she is on the phone) oh, I'm sorry.
Amanda: (stuttering) I have to go now….
Uhmm, please get back to me when you have the rest of that
information.. (hanging up the phone) What are you doing back? I
thought you were gone for the day.
Derek: What, miss me already?……(Amanda
just looking at him) …. Well, I forgot some work I wanted to
finish up tonight (going over to his desk). That sounded like an
intriguing phone call you had there.
Amanda: No, it was just business,
Derek: I'm sure it was, I was just getting ready
to try out this new place called the Harbor Club, would you like
to join me?
Amanda: On one condition…
Derek: Why are there always conditions with
you??
Amanda: Well??
Derek: Oh alright, the price for your company is
going to cost me, is it?
Amanda: The condition is that we talk about you
tonight!
Derek: (surprised) Me? you want to talk about
me? There's nothing to talk about, I'm a friend of Jake's just
doing him a favor.
Amanda: Well, you may be able to fool everyone,
but you're hiding from someone or something, I can tell.
Derek: You can tell, tell from what?
Amanda: Instinct.
Derek: (laughing) wait, wait, don't tell me. Is
it your Woman's intiution at work there?
Amanda: (crossing her arms across her chest) As
a matter of fact…yes.
Derek: Oh, this should be interesting, listen
Red if there was something I was hiding, you would not be able to
find out what it is!
Amanda: Oh, really…..what about Moscow?
Derek: (the color draining from his face)….
what??

Scene 3
Setting: Mustang Sally's
Kris and Steven come back from the bar.
Steven: (to Vicky) Is it true, mom, that you
snuck Kris out of the house for ice cream?
Vicky: (looking at Kris) Thanks, Kris… well
,honey, yes, but there were certain circumstances involved.
Kris: Yeah, like this guy named Jake!
Vicky: Kris, please…
Steven: You mean you snuck out to see Jake??
Vicky: Well, yes, but I was young and once
Bridget found out, well, my hide was tanned!…..just like
your's would be if you ever did that young man!
Steven: (looking around) Did Jake leave??
Vicky: Yes, honey, he did, are you ready to head
back to the apartment?
Steven: Will Jake be there??
Vicky: I don't know sweetheart, I don't know.
Kris: Hey, why don't the 3 of us go out for some
real pizza, New York pizza! what do you say?
Vicky: Kris, I don't know if I'd be good
company.
Kris: Come on, you can either come with me or
just stay in the apartment and mope around waiting for him to
come back. Now which is it??
Vicky: I really need to rest my foot…...
Kris: Okay, then why don't we pick up a pizza
and head back to your apartment and we can still catch up on old
times, and you can tell me how you're going to Get Jake back!
Vicky: okay on the first one, but the second one
I'm not so sure……
We cut to Sally sitting at the bar talking to Shari,
Shari: Well, that Vicky sure looks sad.
Sally: (turning to look at Vicky, then back to
Shari) Yep, but she seems like one stubborn girl to me!
We hear Anne get up on stage..
Anne: Well, ladies and Gent's, we have something
a little special tonight, Tom, our own guitar player is going to
start off the night with a little singing of his own, so lets
give him a big round of applause.
Sally (turning around in shock): What is he
doing ….singing!
Shari: He's pretty good at it.
Sally: (turning to Shari) I know that! But I pay
him to play the guitar!
Shari: Well, sometimes Sally you just gotta take
the bull by the horns!
The band begins to play softly, the lights get turned down, Tom
who stands about 6'1 he has a rugged look about him, dark hair
that is cut just so, he's wearing black jeans with a black shirt
and black boots. He steps up the to the mic.
Tom: (clearing his throat) ahem.. well, folks I
hope you'll bare with me as I'm trying to get a message across,
sometimes you have to go to different tactics to let that woman
know how you feel……..(softly)…so this is one of
mine. I hope you'll enjoy..(he starts playing and to sing)

Shari: (leaning over to Sally) Well, he's trying
to tell you something.
Sally: Yeah, like when he's going to get his last
paycheck.
Shari: Sally, when are you gonna give in and cut
that man some slack!
Sally: When HELL feezes over! (gets off the
stool and walks off)
Vicky coming up to Shari after Sally walked right past her.
Vicky: (looking at Sally leaving, then at Tom)
Well, I guess she didn't like his message.
Shari: Oh, she's beginning to cave, just give
her some time.
Vicky: So you think time will cure all, huh?
Shari: Yes I do, I made my husband work hard to
get me, and that's what Sally is doing, she's testing him to make
sure he'll last.
Vicky: Testing him, huh? And does he know that
she's testing him?
Shari: Why, of course not, he's a man you know!
FADE OUT
Scene 4
Setting: The Herald
Maria is at her desk, trying to respond to a question to the love
lady, she stops and thinks for a moment then looks around and
sees that hardly anyone is in the office, so she opens her desk
drawer and pulls out this picture of Jake, she smiles and stares
at his picture……..
Jake comes running thru the office doors,
Jake: Maria, Maria (he runs up to her)
Maria: (shocked looking up) Jake, what….what
are you doing here??
Jake: I had to get back here as soon as I could!
Maria: why, is there something wrong??
Jake: (getting on his knee) Yes, there is, while
I was gone I realized (looking down)….if….if it's not
to late, I hope.
Maria: What?
Jake: I realized that….that it was you that
I wanted!
Maria: …. Me??
Jake: Yes, I never loved Vicky. It was you and I want
you to Marry me!
Maria: oh, Jake…..
(he picks her up in his arms and carries her off through the
door)
In a Russian accent………Excuse me?..
Maria: (coming out of her trance)….yes…yes, I
will
Katia: Excuse me??
Maria: Oh. (flustered…putting the picture
away)…sorry, uhmmm, can I help you?
Katia: Yes, I'm looking for a Jake Mckinnon.
Maria: I'm sorry he's not here right now.
Katia: Do you know when Mckinnon will be back?
Maria: He may not be for awhile, he's in New
York for now.
Katia: hmmm
Maria: But Derek is here, I'm sure he can help
you.
Katia: DEREK! You mean Derek Summerfield??
Maria: Why yes, that's him…
Patti: (grabbing her arm and turning her around)
WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?
Katia: (turning around, with a sarcastic tone)
Oh, if it's not Patzzzy! Our world renown photographer, taken any
good pictures yet??
Patti: (same tone at Katia's).. Oh, Katzzz, come
on now let's not let our bitterness overtake us, shall we?
Katia: (turns back to Maria)… I will
return. (walks away)
Maria: Well, she turned very unfriendly quick..
Patti: (looking after her) She's got a score to
settle and it ain't going to be pretty.
FADE OUT
Scene 5
Setting: Restaurant in Manhattan. Jake and Nicole, there dinner
has arrived and they are eating.
Nicole: You want to what???
Jake: (with a mouthful of food) You heard me..
Nicole: Why would you want to do that?
Jake: (swallowing) … Well, I have my own
reasons, but let's just say I think it will be a good investment!
Nicole: But you don't know anything about our
business.
Jake: I know enough to invest in a something
good when I see it.
Nicole: Oh, you do, do you? You know I'm not so
sure about you. What if you decide to back out?
Jake: (smiling at her) Hey, when I'm in, I'm in
for good!
Nicole: Just like you and Vicky, right?
Jake: (choking on his next mouthful of food) You
sure know how to give a man indigestion!
Nicole: I'm just not so sure of what you really
want, you seem very unhappy to me.
Jake: Listen…(pausing a moment) …. I
struggled to do everything right and I gave my all to that woman
and she took it and just tossed it aside!
Nicole: But she's here…… after you.
Doesn't that say anything?
Jake: She doesn't want me. She just hates it
when she loses! Now that Shane is gone she settled for second
best! She'll forget about me once someone new comes into the
picture that piques her interest!
Nicole: Well, it doesn't look that way to me.
Jake: There's just too much that has gone on
between us, I should have walked away years ago and never looked
back.
Nicole: Jake, I've only known you a few days,
right?
Jake: Yep…. point being?
Nicole: Well, I think you're a very handsome man
and if I didn't see that Vicky was after you like a tick on a
hound dog, I would take you up on more than your offer of an
investment. But I want to know if your going to invest in
Sally's, that you are not going to pull up your stakes and take
your money elsewhere?
Jake: Trust me…..

Scene 6
Setting : The Herald
Amanda: Why, Derek, you seem to have a look of
shock on your face. Could it be that I found out something about
you that you don't want anyone to know about?
Derek: (Recovering from his shock, turning away
from Amanda to get some papers) …… Well, Red, it takes
a lot to shock me, so what do you think you found out about
Moscow?
Amanda: You know, Derek, it's like playing a
game of poker, you never want to reveal what's in your hand until
you've seen all the cards and are ready to bet.
Derek: (Turning around) If there is something
you want to know just ask me.
Amanda: But Derek that would leave out half the
fun.
Derek: Amanda, don't go digging around in my
past because you won't find anything of interest.
Amanda: But I already did….
Derek: (growing inpatient) What???
Amanda: I seem to have hit a nerve, haven't I?
Derek: Of course not! I just don't like playing
games (he turns to walk out)
Amanda: Hey, wait, what about dinner?
Derek: I've just lost my appetite all of a
sudden…(he leaves)
Amanda: (to herself) Hmmm, now you've really got
my interest, Derek. What scares you so much about Moscow??

Scene 6
Setting: Jake finished dinner with Nicole, took her back to
Sally's and wandered around for a few hours hoping that Vicky
would be asleep when he got back to the apartment.
He comes through the door and everything is quiet, the lights are
out. He goes in and changes into a t-shirt and boxers. He's still
feeling kind of restless so he goes to the balcony and steps out
to get some fresh air. As he's standing there he starts to think
back on his life with Vicky and all the schemes he pulled just
trying to get rich and how it never made him happy until Vicky
came back into the picture as more than a friend. He hears
himself saying to Nicole "I should have walked away years
ago and never looked back" His eyes start to water up. He
hears Vicky screaming in her sleep, she's having a nightmare.
He runs into the bedroom and sees Vicky tossing and turning.
Vicky: (she's talking in her sleep) No….No…(she
starts crying) No, don't go!!!
Jake: (coming up to the bed) Vicky??
Vicky: Stop it…..nooooo (she bolts right
up)
Jake: (putting his arms around her) It's
alright, honey, it's alright, you were just having a bad dream…
Vicky: Oh, Jake. (she puts her arms around him)
…..it, it was about Michael..
Jake: Shhhhh, it's alright now
Vicky: what did I do?? (crying) I….I…can't
seem to do anything right….
Jake: (Closing his eyes, remembering how good it
was to hold her)……now, come on, that's not true.
Vicky: I'm…..I'm so scared….
Jake: (looking at Vicky and wiping a tear out of
her eyes) …..It was just a bad dream, Vick, just a bad
dream, come on now, lay down and go back to sleep.
Vicky: Jake, (putting her arms around him)
please hold me…. Please…..I'm so scared to go back to
sleep, please just stay here until I do..
Jake: I …. I will, now lay down.
Vicky lays down still holding on to one of Jake's hands and
begins to go back to sleep. Jake sits there and watches her as
she sleeps.
