Scene
1
Setting: New York - Mustang Sally's
Steven started telling the history of Jake and Vick from what he
could remember and what he was told. Nicky brought him some food,
and heard some of the story and found she couldn't leave.
Gathered around Steven in Nicole's office are Heather, Anne,
Shari and Sally, they have been fixated on Steven telling the
history that they don't realize how much time has passed and who
is in the office.
Sally: (in disbelief) Are you telling us a tale,
young man?
Steven: (proudly) Nope, all of it is true,
that's how they met and how long they have known each other, he's
been there for all of us, he even delivered me! That's why I
think of him as my dad.
Anne: (dabbing at her eyes with a tissue) Man,
is some of that a sad story or what? Boy, could I write a lot of
songs for you guys!
Shari: I think I'm gonna need a stiff drink!
Nicole: Shari! The kid!
Shari: Listen honey, from what this kid just
told us, I don't think he would be offended by my comment!
(Steven is smiling at Shari's comment)
Heather: Wow, we don't get stuff like this in
Nebraska!
Sally: (looking at Heather) Heather, honey, you
have a lot to learn about life in the big city. Steven, I don't
think anyone could make up what you just told us, so from what
you say this Jake sounds like a good man, and I bet your Mom and
him belong together.
Steven: They do! And that's why I'm here, I wont
be leaving without Jake!
Sally: Good! You stick to your guns kid!
(looking at her watch) Ladies, do you realize what time it is? We
better go and get this club ready to rock, because I have a
feeling when this Jake and Vicky get here there are going to be
some fire works going on! Lets move.
Nicole: (looking at Steven) It's going to be a
while yet, Steven. Why don't you lay here on the couch and get
some rest.
Steven: Okay, I'm a little tired of talking
anyway.
Nicole: I bet you are, come on.. (she gets him
settled on the couch and heads out)

Scene 2
Setting: New York City
Jake and Vicky have arrived in NY and just got into a cab, on the
whole trip there Jake would not talk to Vicky.
Cab Driver: Where to?
Jake: Mustang Sally's, lower Manhattan.
Vicky: (looking at Jake and putting her hand on
his arm) Jake?
Jake: (frustrated) Listen Vicky I agreed that
you could come, but I didn't agree to talk to you!
Vicky: (a little miffed) I guess I shouldn't be
surprised, you didn't say one word to me on the whole flight
here!
Jake: (looking out the window and then turning
to her) What is there to say? We found Steven. Once we get him,
you and him can head back to Bay City where you belong.
Vicky: (looking at Jake in disbelief) That's it?……
I'm supposed to get Steven and go home…….home without
you??
Jake: (looking out the window again and not
looking at Vicky afraid she might see the truth in his eyes) Yep.
Cab driver: (looking in his rearview mirror)
Where you two kids from?
At the same time they both respond.
Vicky: Bay City!
Jake: New York!
Vicky: (Looking at Jake then to the Cab Driver)
We're Both from Bay City, actually this is my husband, the man I
love more than anything in this world. (looking back at Jake)
Cab Driver: In a fight huh?
Jake: (looking at the cab driver) How much
longer till we get there?
Cab Driver: Well, in this traffic it may take
awhile, were only about 5 blocks away, it would be faster if you
got out and walked.
Jake: Fine. Pull over, I'll walk and then you
can drive the lady here the rest of the way.
Cab Driver: You got it (he pulls over)
Vicky: Oh no, you don't. I don't think so, I can
walk just as fast as you can, you're not leaving me behind again!
Jake: Fine! but if you cant keep up with me then
I'm not stopping and waiting for you!
Vicky: Fine!
Jake: Fine!
Vicky: Fine!
Exit
Scene 4:
Setting: The Herald
Amanda has agreed to herself and herself only to let Derek take
Jake's place while he is gone. Nick is still a reporter for the
Herald. He's still angry at Vicky for what she did, but he knows
that Steven has been found and that J&V are on their way to
get him, so he is busy with his work.
Linda is sitting at Nick's desk and working on his computer. Nick
comes through the door and heads for his desk.
Nick: Excuse me, can I help you? (looking at
Linda)
Linda: (not looking up) No, I'm fine.
Nick: Excuse me again, but your sitting at my
desk.
Linda: (looking up a little embarassed) Oh, I'm
so sorry, Maria said it would be alright if I used this desk, my
name is Linda.
Nick: (smiling, appreciating beauty) Hi there,
I'm Nick…..Nick Hudson. (Linda starts to pick up her papers
to move and Maria walks over)
Maria: (puppy dog look) Hi Nick. How ya doing? I
didn't realize you would be back so soon, so I told Linda she
could sit here.
Nick: Oh, that's alright, Maria (putting his
hand on her shoulder) I didn't think I would be back either, I
came back to see if I could get a photographer to head over to
the protest at the dog food plant.
Linda: Well, if I may suggest, why don't you
take Patti she just got here and she's eagerly awaiting an
assignment.
Nick: That sounds good to me, is she free right
now? Can she meet me outside and I'll get the car.
Linda: I'm sure she is, I'll go tell her to meet
you outside, say 5 minutes?
Nick: Sounds good, thanks a lot, nice to meet
you, too. You can share my desk anytime! (he turns around and
leaves, both Maria and Linda look after him)
Maria: (nudging Linda in the arm) Isn't he a
dream?
Linda: He's a package, alright (looking at Maria
with a smile)
Maria: I hear he has a couple of tatoos
Linda: Oh really, what of, I wonder?
Maria: LIGHTENING
BOLTS! Now how's that for a man?
Linda: I better go warn Patti! Whew, can he make
a girl sweat!

Scene 5
Setting: Carlinos
Amanda and Derek arrive at Carlino's they take a seat.
Paulina: (coming over with some menu's) Hey sis,
what are you doing here?
Amanda: Can't a girl get something to eat?
Derek, this is my sister, Paulina, Paulina, this is Derek, he's
taking. . . hmm. . . well, he's going to be helping out while
Jake is gone.
Derek: (shakes Paulina's hand) Nice to meet you,
I hope to more than help out, I want to see this paper make some
news!
Amanda: (a little indignant) What? you don't
think were a big enough paper??
Derek: Now Red, hold on there, I was only…
Paulina: (interrupting) Red, huh? She doesn't
allow many people to call her that.
Amanda: Paulina!.. I , I… (looking at her)
Paulina: I know, I know… (smiling) let me
get Meg over here to take your order.. (she walks off, laughing a
bit to herself) Red…..hmmm, this is going to be interesting.
Amanda: (looking at Derek) If you call me Red
one MORE time!
Derek: ….You'll what???
…………. slap me???
Amanda: (getting up to leave) I don't need this…
Derek: (standing up and taking ahold of her arm)
Okay, okay I'm sorry, now come on sit back down, ever since I got
to this town, you and I have been bumping heads. Come sit down,
let's have a drink and see if we can come to some sort of truce?
What do you say?? (smiling his best smile)
Amanda: (shakes his arm away) One condition and
one condition only!
Derek: You name it!
Amanda: You don't call me RED!
Derek: (looking a little disappointed) hmmmm. .
. if I get to have the pleasure of dinning with such a beautiful
woman then I will make the sacrifice and be on my best behavior
and not call you………..(with a mischievous look in
his eyes) …..that name. Hows that?
Amanda: It will do for now. (sits back down)
Fade out..
Scene 6
Setting: 3 blocks away from Sally's
Jake is walking in front of Vicky, and she is desperately trying
to keep up with him. The streets are crowded and all of a sudden
Jake hears Vicky scream.
Vicky: Jake!!
Jake stops in his tracks, rolls his eyes
Jake: (slowly turning around) What now? (he sees
that Vicky has caught the heel of her shoe in a grate, she's
sitting there holding her ankle…..Jake walks back to her)
Vicky: My heel, its stuck! (looking up at Jake)
If its not tooo much trouble, do you think you could help me get
it out??
Jake: (bending down to help her) Fine.
Vicky: Ooch, that hurts..
Jake: Well, if you would stop moving around
maybe I could get it out! (he struggles with her shoe for a
minute and ends up breaking the heel off her shoe)…ooops
Vicky: You broke my shoe!! Now what am I going
to do?
Jake: Its not like I broke your foot! You can
still walk, can't you? (he stand up and turns to leave)
Vicky: Oh, I can walk alright! (she starts to
get up and tries to walk but cant) Ouch!! (she falls back to the
ground holding her ankle)
Jake: (turning around to see her) Are you
alright?? (he kneels down and looks at her)
Vicky: I think I broke my ankle.
Jake: Here let me look at it. (he examines her
ankle) Well it looks pretty swollen.
Vicky: It's killing me.
Jake: (looking at the crowd of people, then his
watch) Come on let's go. (he bends down to pick her up) Put your
arms around my neck.
Vicky: (smiling a little) are…are you
sure??
Jake: (looking at her) Just shut up and put them
around my neck. (vicky complies, he picks her up and their faces
come very close to each other. they look in each other's eyes for
a moment, Jake clears throat) aah. . . hmmm. . . lets go. (he
turns to leave and starts walking off)
Vicky: Wait. . . Wait. . .
Jake: What? (looking around) What??
Vicky: Don't forget my shoe…please.
Jake: (big sigh) ugh! (he turns around and bends
down with Vicky still in his arms, and Vicky leans over and picks
up her shoe)
Vicky: Got it!
Jake: (sarcastically) Anything else before we
start???
Vicky: Nope, (smiling at him) I think you've got
everything you need right here in your arms!
Jake just looks at her
