After the near fatal accident, caused by his half-brother AJ Quartermaine, Jason Morgan Quartermaine woke up from his coma. With no recollection of the past, the first person he laid his eyes upon was Robin Scorpio. Robin informed the Quartermaine family that Jason had woken from his coma, only he wasn’t the same. He suffered from irreversible brain damage, which left him without a memory, and unable to relate to others or to relate to his own emotions easily. Jason was expected to act the same and be the same as the old Jason. The only problem was Jason didn’t want to. He was independent and angry and he was tired of being treated like he was someone else. In order to break away from his controlling family, he looked for assistance from Sonny Corinthos, a man repudiated to be involved with organized crime. At first he received the position of a valet at Luke’s club, which Sonny was a partner of. But Jason soon grew restless, and then became a messenger to Sonny Corinthos. Then he got a taste of what Sonny’s lifestyle was like.
Whenever Jason needed to escape from demanding people, he would seek coverage at a nearby bridge. At this bridge he met for the second time the young and intelligent Robin Scorpio. Robin often arrived at the bridge depressed and crying, as she was mourning the death of her late boyfriend, Michael “Stone” Cates. She herself looked for coverage from this bridge. It was the only time Robin allowed herself to be open about her feelings. As she was grieving, Jason would watch her and become increasingly intrigued by this melancholy young lady. One night she finally introduced herself, and then later let Jason inside her emotions. In an emotional scene, Robin explains all of the hurt and depression in her life to Jason. She openly admits to him that she is HIV+, and contracted the virus from her former love. He was the only one to see how Robin was really feeling. Robin told him that night, “So now you’ve met the real Robin Scorpio. Strong and steady on the surface, chaos and confusion underneath.”
As their relationship progressed from friendship to companionship, Jason desired to be increasingly physical with Robin. One night in a boxcar where Jason had once stayed, Robin and him prepared to make love. Jason knew all of the precautions he must take in order to not contract the HIV virus. But he was a daredevil none the less, and didn’t much worry about contracting the virus. As they began to kiss and hold one another, Robin flashed back to the times she had made love to Stone. She immediately stopped Jason and told him that it was too soon for her to have a sexual relationship with anyone. More importantly, Robin feared that she could give the virus to Jason. That she could never live with. After this event, Jason began a sexual relationship with Carly Roberts, Port Charles’ devious newcomer.
Robin had asked of Sonny, that he did not let Jason get so deep into the organization that he could not get out. But with the death of his wife, due to the feelings he had felt for Brenda Barrett, Sonny fell into a deep depression and let Jason slide into the position of his right-hand man. This led to Jason becoming so involved it would be nearly impossible for him to get out.
Robin then prepared her speech for the 3rd Annual Nurses’ Ball, and in that speech she confessed to the world that she was HIV+. She talked about the love of her life Stone Cates, where only two years ago at the same event they had performed a scene from the Shakespeare play “Romeo and Juliet”. As Robin faltered on the stage, Jason walked into the room, hopped onto the stage, and picked Robin up and carried her off. This led Robin to the realization that Jason was far more important to her than she had ever thought. He was an important aspect of her life, that she didn’t want to lose.
As a way to get away from everyone for awhile, Jason and Robin spent a wonderful weekend in Montauk. Robin again told Jason that she couldn’t sleep with him. She couldn’t feel safe in his arms, if she knew that she might have given him the virus. So her and Jason made love, in their own special way, that did not put him at a risk. They woke up in each others arms, and both were happy. At this time, she also told Jason that he is incredibly important to her and not just a replacement for Stone. She went on to tell him that him and Stone had two very separate places in her heart, but both were incredibly special.
Robin prepared to attend Yale, a dream she had during High School. Her future was important to her and she realized that Jason was the one to give it to her. He was the one who guided her and helped her beyond extent. As she spent her last night with Jason in the boxcar, under the stars, Jason confessed to her that he had been having a sexual relationship with Carly Roberts. Robin was devastated by this information, because Carly could give him the one thing she couldn’t. He promised to stay away from Carly, and Jason spent the night with his arms around Robin, underneath the stars.
As Jason dropped Robin off at Yale they made a promise to each other, that Jason would be careful, if Robin would promise not to worry. As Jason hopped on his motorcycle, with tears in his eyes, he turned to Robin and told her he loved her, for the first time. As he rode off toward Port Charles, Robin’s expression turned sad as she whispered for the first time also “I love you”.
Jason and Robin started to yearn more and more for each other, and the letter writing became more frequent and more touching. They exchanged heartfelt letters and anticipated the next time they would see each other. Robin expressed her wishes to Jason that she hoped he could become at least civil with his “old” family. Jason Quartermaine had given Jason a lot to be thankful for, and Robin didn’t want him to be ungrateful for any of it. So Jason developed a close relationship with Emily Quartermaine and Lila Quartermaine and a tolerance for AJ. He learned to accept Monica in a small way, but Alan he only accepted in respect to him being Robin’s doctor. The Quartermaine family could not stop expecting things of Jason, which only pushed him farther away.
Robin was planning on returning to PC for her best friend’s wedding. When Jason came to pick her up at Yale, his motorcycle blew a tire and they ended up stranded in a little Irish Pub called “The White Swan”. Robin called Brenda to tell her what happened, but that she would be at her wedding. Jason had called for a car and it would be arriving soon and rushing them back to PC. But Brenda could hear how happy Robin was to be with Jason, so she told Robin to stay where they were. Even though Brenda would miss her at the wedding, she wanted Robin to stay with Jason in the pub. So Robin and Jason had a wonderful time together, as they expressed to each other how much they missed one another. Jason looked in Robin’s eyes and promised he’d always be waiting for her. When Robin heard this, she too made a promise. She promised she’d always come back!
Robin returned home before the holiday season to tell Jason and her Uncle Mac that she would not be returning home for Christmas. She had opted to do a tour for the HIV virus, where she would be going around and notifying different people about the dangers of the disease. As she celebrated a pre-Christmas with Sonny and Jason, Robin received her first gift ever from Jason. It was an exquisite pearl necklace, that Robin treasured with all her heart.
On a break from Yale after the Christmas season, Robin returned to Port Charles to see Jason for his “first” birthday. She surprised him at Luke’s Club, and she, Sonny, and Jason celebrated his birthday. As Sonny watched the happy couple, he decided to give them some private time. After he left Robin and Jason expressed how much they loved each other, and they were planning to spend a week together, because Robin had a short break from school.
While in PC, she met with Alan Quartermaine, her doctor. He informed Robin that she had the opportunity to start taking a protocol, that would consist of thirty pills a day. This protocol would help prolong her life, and let her see her hopes and aspirations come true. She thanked Alan profusely for all of his assistance, and Jason respected him in a whole new way. On “their bridge” Robin expressed all of her fears about the protocol. She didn’t want to be reminded that she was sick a million times a day, which she would with all the pills in the plan. She feared the side affects and the work, but Jason was there to help guide her through it. He reminded her of the future that was so important to her, and he asked her to take the protocol for herself, for him, for Mac and Felicia, and Brenda and Sonny, and all of the other people she cared so much for. He wanted to see her accomplish all that she had set out to do in life. Robin with tears in her eyes and a look of sadness, told Jason that she would live her life as long as possible for him. But Jason ultimately convinced her that the person she should really being do it for in the end was herself. She couldn’t survive if she was only living for someone else. Robin realized that she did want to live, and she did want to see the future, and most of all she did want to be with him as long as possible.
Unfortunately, Monica Quartermaine began an affair with Doctor Pierce Dorman, as her relationship with her husband was slowly dwindling away. When she finally came to her senses and realized that her marriage could still be salvaged, she broke off all ties with Pierce Dorman. This infuriated Dorman and he filed a sexual harassment suit in order to get revenge. During the trial the stress on Emily Quartermaine became overwhelming and she started to take drugs on a regular basis. At this same time, Sonny and Jason were just noticing the increase in drugs, and they became dissatisfied. Sonny wanted no drugs on his territory and him and Jason set out to find the drug supplier. Jason and Sonny soon figured out that Dorman was the one responsible for the increase in drugs. Meanwhile, Emily had become increasingly dependent on drugs, and one night overdosed. As she fell to the floor unable to breath, Jason started CPR in order to save the life of his sister, who had come to mean something very special to him. While Emily was hospitalized, Doctor Pierce Dorman turned up dead in the GH morgue. Detective Taggart, a man with a grudge against Sonny, was determined to find evidence to support his theories that Sonny was responsible for the drug trafficking and the death of Dr. Dorman.
As this was all happening, Robin returned home for the Fourth Annual Nurses’ Ball. As Robin gave her speech, she had all of the strength and composure she had lacked the year before. She was confident and proud, and once again made an extreme impact on all the citizens of Port Charles. She spent the evening at the Ball with Jason, and later that night he returned Robin back to school. Although she was home for only a short time, she assured everyone she would return home for the summer.
When Robin returned to Port Charles for the summer, she found that Jason had been arrested and was in jail. He had been arrested for helping Sonny get Brenda out of jail. Brenda had been falsely arrested for the murder of Dr. Dorman. With assistance from Mac, Robin got Jason out of jail. While the two reunited with each other, the “Tin man” (who Jason had positively identified as Dorman’s killer) looked on from Robin’s yard. He wanted to kill Jason in order to protect himself and his boss. As Robin and Jason played games with each other and danced to her favorite song, the two could only think of each other. As they were talking about their lives together, and the hope for their relationship in the future, their happiness and laughter was broken by a bullet. Immediately Jason threw Robin to the ground, and took the next bullet for himself. A scared Robin called the police and tried to help Jason as much as possible. She herself was bleeding from the glass, and when she saw the sight of her own blood, somewhat near Jason’s she panicked and felt guilty about the fact that she couldn’t help him, for fear of infecting him.
Jason was rushed to General Hospital, where he was operated on. Robin became scared for her boyfriend, and was extremely terrified about the whole ordeal. She went to Jason, and pleaded with him to quit the organization. When he declined, Robin had nothing else to do but ask Sonny to fire Jason, when he called her while he was on the run. She explained to him how he had made a promise to Stone, to always take care of her, and this was how she wanted Sonny to take care of her. Sonny eventually succumbed to Robin’s wishes and he fired Jason.
The next time Robin came to the hospital she walked in on an angry Jason. Jason blamed her for Sonny firing him, and insisted she call him back. But Robin was unaware of the number, because Sonny was on the run. Jason successfully guessed her reason for doing this to him. She begged him to consider a safer way of life, but Jason wasn’t happy. She angrily told Jason that she wasn’t perfect, and she didn’t want to lose him, like everyone else she loved. She was infuriated by the fact that Jason thought working for Sonny was the only important thing he could do with his life. She honestly told him, if he walked back into Sonny’s life, she wouldn’t be there. In a tearful moment between the two, Jason told her that he wasn’t going to the leave the organization, and Robin and him broke up. She promised to always love him, but she couldn’t stay with him. The two were left in tears, as they cried at the break-up they thought would never happen.
Robin accepted an opportunity to study in Paris, at the acclaimed school the Sorbonne. She wanted to put distance between her and Jason, so she prepared to leave for Paris the following day. She visited Jason one last time before she left. In an emotional scene, Robin said good-bye to her love, and left a mini Eiffel Tower for Jason. as a reminder of her.
Mike came to visit Jason and shared with him all of his experience with women. He told Jason not to let Robin leave Port Charles thinking she was running away. Taking his advice Jason got out of the hospital early, and went to the bridge where he found Robin standing there. She ran into his arms and told him she didn’t want to leave. Jason told her to move towards her future, and the two of them had a tearful good-bye. As they shared their last kiss, remembrances of their time together appeared and traced us through their happiness.
While Robin was sad and forlorn in Paris during Thanksgiving, Jason was equally depressed in Port Charles. As they both thought about each other in their separate homes, Robin dreamt of ways to solve her problems with Jason and run back into his arms. Jason in Port Charles and Robin in Paris, they both looked out their windows at the same time, to see the moon, as they were longing for each other.
Sonny had left Part Charles forever, leaving Jason with his entire organization. Jason was no longer his second, he was now the boss! An outside territory made a hit on Jason at Luke’s Club, during a party. Jason and Luke were outside, but were unharmed. Nikolas Cassadine was also outside, but unfortunately was shot in the throat. Unable to breath, Nikolas was lying on the ground. In order to save his life, Jason performed an emergency tracheot omy with a knife, to let Nikolas breath. Jason successfully saved his life and surprised many with his ability to remember how to perform the procedure. When the police arrived, they arrested Jason for using a weapon on Nikolas Cassadine. Taggart was desperate to use anything to arrest Jason, but could not hold him at the police station. While Jason was at the police station though, he received a phone call, where an enemy asked if the news had reached Paris yet. Jason immediately scared that someone may try to harm Robin, he flew to Paris to check on her. Not wanting Robin to see him, Jason tightened the security on Robin in Paris. But Robin did see him, and the couple ran into each others arms, and shared a wonderful kiss.
Robin took Jason around Paris, but inevitably they got on the subject of Jason’s job. She once again asked Jason to stay in Paris with her, but he said he couldn’t. All Robin could do was stand up and walk away from him. Jason returned to PC and dealt with the problems in his organization.
Jason had become good friends with his former lover, Carly Roberts. Carly was pregnant and scared and turned to Jason for help. There were two possible fathers of Carly’s baby, Tony and AJ, and they both threatened to take the child away. So Carly told everyone that Jason was the father, and Jason said he would go along with her, but not lie for her. Carly spent a couple of days with Jason, but one night started having contractions and was knocked unconscious. Jason came home and found her on the floor and rushed her to GH. There she had a tiny baby boy, who needed surgery. Since Carly was still unconscious, Jason permitted the surgery. Meanwhile everyone believed the notion that Jason was the father to this baby, even though he wasn’t. When Carly finally woke up, she felt responsible for the baby’s condition and left town. She made Jason promise to keep the baby with him until she returned to town. He made her that promise, and soon bonded with the baby.
Meanwhile Brenda was going crazy by the fact that Sonny had left Port Charles forever. He had stood Brenda up at the alter on the day of their wedding. He had sent Jason to the church to tell her the bad news, and Brenda has hated Jason ever since. So now Brenda was going crazy and getting mad at everyone. The only idea Jax had, was to get Robin from Paris to console Brenda and be her friend. When Robin returned from Paris, she was startled at what her friend had become. Brenda was angry and mean and very suspicious. She accused Robin of working for Sonny and other such terrible things. She told Robin that everything between her and Jason was a joke, and she shouldn’t waste her time on someone that would only hurt her in the end. She crushed Robin, by telling her that Carly Roberts had given birth to a little baby boy, and Jason was the father.
Knowing Jason all to well, Robin knew the only way to find out the truth about Jason and the baby was to ask him straight out. So Robin arrived at Jason’s apartment and the two of them discussed the baby. Robin heard the story about Carly asking Jason to do this for her, and then Robin heard that AJ was the father. So Robin told Jason that she felt he should tell AJ at once. But Jason decided to keep his word to Carly, and Robin left the penthouse still wanting AJ to know the truth.
The next day, Robin and Jason ran into each other in the park. Jason was with the baby when Robin came along. Robin told Jason that she had decided to remain in Port Charles for good. She missed all of the familiar faces, but more importantly she didn’t want to run from her feelings. She wanted to stay and confront them. Robin than encouraged Jason to let Lila and Emily see the baby. Jason had absolutely no objection to that, he just had an objection to the rest of the Quartermaine’s seeing the baby. Robin told Jason that she felt it was important for the baby to know his family.
When Jason took the baby to see Lila and Emily, Alan, AJ, Tony, and Edward would not permit him to leave with the baby. Jason getting angry demanded that the baby be given back to him, and Emily agreed with Jason as well. But the Quartermaine men refused to return the baby, and Jason grew very angry. He eventually just left the Quartermaine mansion, but not without saying that none of the Q.’s besides Emily and Lila could come near the baby.
With Carly out of town, Jason decided to go ahead with the baby’s baptism. He asked Emily and Mike to be the baby’s godparents. Robin showed up at the church and when he saw her, he gave her a beautiful smile. Then when the Quartermaines showed up, Jason was prepared to tell them to leave, when Robin stepped in and her and Jason went out into the hallway and discussed the baby and the Quartermaine’s right to be there. Jason relented and permitted them to stay, and finally at the end of the baptism Carly returned to be a mother to her baby. At the after baptism party, Carly went over to talk to Robin, but Robin made it clear that they were not friends. Then Moreno, another man that owns territory near PC, came to Robin and started to remind her of her past. He started to talk to her about how Duke, her stepfather, died, and it shook Robin up a little bit. Jason quickly stepped in and told Moreno that he shouldn’t even think about hurting Robin or anyone else he loves. He even told Moreno that he was not allowed to come near Robin.
During a snowstorm Robin was held at the PC Grill and she saw Jason there with the baby. When Carly came in and started to fight with Bobbie, Tony, and Virginia, Robin left the Grill to see Jason. She stepped into his limo and again they talked about the baby. Robin expressed her feelings about AJ knowing he was the true father, but Jason said he was not going to tell AJ the truth unless Carly wanted too. Robin left the car a little angry at Jason for being dishonest to AJ.
On Valentine’s Day, Robin went to the bridge, where her and Jason had spent so many moments. She was standing there longing for what had once been, and she through a wish into the water. Jason came up behind her and surprised her. He asked her what she had thrown in the water, and she described to him an old ritual that was done, and she then explained to him about the wish. Jason had hoped that her wish would come true, but sadly Robin told him it was impossible. She had wished for things to be different. She had wished that her and Jason could be together once again, but as long as the problems about the mob still existed between them, Robin said there was no possible way for it all to be the way it used to be. Finally Robin looked at Jason and told him how much she missed him, and then she went up to him and surprised him by giving him an intense kiss.
Robin was sitting at Kelly’s preparing to get some books for Nikolas Cassadine, when Jason came over to say hi to her. She apologized about the kiss, and said that it wouldn’t happen again. Jason told Robin that he understood they couldn't be together and he hated hurting her. Robin responded that it only hurt so much because their love was the best.
After struggling with the decision of whether or not to tell AJ he was the true father, Robin decided to go talk it over with Carly and Jason. When she arrived at the Penthouse, Jason wasn’t home and she started to talk to Carly. She informed Carly of her plans to tell AJ the truth, and at that point a war broke out between the two. Carly lashed out at Robin about being controlling of Jason, and being to perfect for any one to come near. She accused Robin of being jealous and spiteful, and using baby Micheal as a weapon to get Jason for herself. Robin was a bit overwhelmed at these accusations, but she tried to keep her composure as she told Carly all of her accusations weren’t true! Robin told Carly that she was the spiteful one, and she was the one using baby Michael to get Jason. She also reminded Carly of her manipulative ways, and Carly was outraged at Robin bringing up the past. Robin left the Penthouse in a hurry, just because she couldn’t stand one more minute around Carly.
Meanwhile Jason was preparing to go to a very important meeting with men who want to replace him as head of the mob. As he was talking to Mike about taking care of the baby if anything were to happen to him, he told Mike to tell Robin that he was sorry and he loved her in case he didn’t return.
Robin fled to the bridge to think for awhile, when Jason arrived there after his meeting which went well. When he first arrived she had thought he was a stranger, because of all the changes Jason was undergoing. She told Jason that she would respect his decision to not tell AJ the truth and it wasn’t her place to tell him what to do. The two reaffirmed their love to each other, but both left sadly because their differences and problems were still there.
Since Nikolas Cassadine was shot at Luke's club, he has been struggling with his speech. Emily had been helping him, but unfortunately was no longer able to. Robin volunteered to help Nikolas instead of Emily. This bothered Stefan, but Nikolas insisted that Robin be able to help him. As Robin helped Nikolas the two started to become better friends. Robin and Nikolas began haniging out more, and Robin is becoming increasingly attached to Nikolas. (March 5, 1998)
While Carly went out shopping one day with baby Michael, she turned away from his stroller for a few minutes. While looking away, the baby was kidnapped by Tony Jones. Jason and Carly went straight to the Quatermaines to see if they were responsible for the kidnapping. When they discovered that they were truly not responsible for the kidnapping, they left the house immediately. Carly was distraught over who the kidnapper may be, but she finally realized that maybe Tony had taken the baby. Jason stormed into Tony’s cabin in the woods and confronted forcefully about Michael’s disappearance. Tony denied all accusations, and at that point the police came in and stopped Jason from injuring Tony. Jason was still convinced that Tony had been lying about Michael’s disappearance, but Justus Ward persuaded him to think that maybe he only wanted Tony to be lying because he knew Tony would never hurt. Jason decided to look deeper into his mob connections to see if any of them was responsible. He flew down to Puerto Rico to confront a person who would have reason to kidnap Michael. But when he returned he told Carly that this man could not have been responsible. Carly was continuing to get more and more worried over her son’s disappearance. She accused Jason of not working hard enough to find her son. She threatened to go live when the Quartemanines if Michael was ever returned safely to her. Jason was disgusted at Carly for what she said, and ran out of the penthouse furious with her. Shortly after he arrived at the bridge to vent his anger.
Robin arrived at the bridge, right when Jason was angrily punching the wall. She asked him what was wrong, and Jason told her about the kidnapping. Robin sympathized with Jason and told him that in no way was it his fault. She ran into Jason’s arms, right as Jason told her that whoever was responsible would pay for what they had done. Robin’s face turned pale, and a look of concern and pain went across it, right when she heard Jason say that.
Since Robin and Nikolas had become such good friends, they decided to have a picnic at the park. While eating lunch Tony Jones came over. When his son Lucas reached into his pocket to get his hat right before they left Robin and Nik, a receipt fell to the ground. Robin attempted to give it back to Tony, but it was too late. She finally looked at and that’s when she saw that it was for diapers, a bassinet, and baby formula. Robin told Nikolas that she remembered that there was something she could do for Michael, and then she left. She drove up to Tony’s cabin in the woods, and confronted him about Michael. He said that there was no way that he would ever give Michael back to Carly and Jason. Robin refused to leave without Michael. So in an attempt to silence Robin, he managed to lock her in the room where he was holding Michael. Robin relentlessly tried to reason with Tony, but he wasn’t realizing what he had done wrong.
When Brenda and Jax returned from a weekend trip, Brenda realized that Robin wasn’t home and hadn’t been home earlier either. She turned frantic when she noticed that Robin’s HIV medicine was still there. Jax convinced her everything was fine and Robin had probably gotten tied up somewhere. Then Brenda received a phone call from Keesha saying that Robin hadn’t met her for lunch like she had promised. Brenda then knew something was definitely wrong, and she went directly to Jason to ask him what had happened to Robin.
Meanwhile at the cabin, Robin didn’t have her HIV medication with her. She also had a severe cold, and got extremely sick. Burning up with a fever, Robin was coughing uncontrollably. She was very weak and Tony refused to let her go. He told her that he would get some antibiotics for her cold, but Robin said that she needed her HIV medication. If she’s off her schedule for even a day, it could throw off everything. It had already been three days, and she was experiencing a reaction from not having her HIV medications. But Tony would still not let her go, and he kept her locked up with Michael, possibly exposing him to pneumonia.
Jason went to talk to Nikolas Cassadine, who had been the last one to see Robin. Nikolas told him about seeing Tony and about how Tony had dropped something and Robin picked it up. Jason pieced it together immediately and he went up to the cabin. When he arrived he found Robin lying on the bed extremely sick and then when he turned around he saw Michael. He thanked the Lord, and then Tony came in. Jason confronted Tony and Tony pulled a gun on him. Jason called his bluff and broke Tony’s wrist with the gun, but then Robin begged him to stop. She fell to the floor and Jason ran over immediately to her. He carried her to the couch and then after Tony was tied up, and Michael was out of the house he carried Robin to the car.
When Jason arrived at the hospital, intern Joe Scanlon took a look at her. They started working on getting her health up, and while at the hospital Robin received a lot of visitors. Brenda, Ned, Jax, Mac, Felicia and even Jason stopped by to see her. Although Jason decided not to go into the room to actually visit with her, because he thought that the best way to make his mob enemies think that Robin was out of his life, was to avoid her.
Jason and Carly attended a dock renovations party, which all of Port Charles society attended. Jason indulged Carly, by giving her a stunning diamond necklace with matching diamond earrings. While on the center stage, Jason and Carly overlooked Jax as he was signing a contract for the deal. Right while Jax was in plain view, a sniper took a shot at him, right when Brenda saw the sniper and jumped up to get Jax out of the way. (April 3, 1998)
