SERIES REVIEW

Having been healed, Wu Fei thanks the old monk and decides to leave. Sak Man Jang is pleased with his work and laughs out loud as they're leaving. Wu Fei, Miu Yuk Lan and Yiu Yat Yat return to the fishing village. Wu Fei promises to take Miu Yuk Lan, all over China. Wu Fei then requested Miu Yuk Lan to play music for him. Once Wu Fei falls asleep Miu Yuk Lan decides to leave. When Wu Fei wakes up and realizes that the Little Grasshopper (Miu Yuk Lan), he promises to search the world till he finds her. Meanwhile Tin Gwai Lo continues in his plans to capture Miu Yuk Lan. Lam Lan visits the monastery to pray for the safety of her daughter with Tin Gwai Lo. As fate would have it, Miu Yuk Lan arrives at the monastery. At once Tin Gwai Lo seizes upon the opportunity to capture Miu Yuk Lan. In the process he tricks Lam Lan into thinking that he did it so that she could spend more time with Miu Yuk Lan. Tin Gwai Lo then sent a letter to Miu Yan Fung, demanding that he hand over the map of Lord Chun's treasure over to him in return for Miu Yuk Lan. Miu Yan Fung arrived to rescue his daughter claiming that he did not have the map. At once Miu Yan Fung falls into one of Tin Gwai Lo's traps and is captured.

Meanwhile Wu Fei visited the monastery looking for the Little Grasshopper, when he was informed that she had been taken away by Tin Gwai Lo. At once Wu Fei knew that she was in danger and rushed of to save her. At Tin's kung fu school, Wu Fei overheard that Tin Gwai Lo had captured Miu Yan Fung and his daughter. Wu Fei then followed Lam Lan to were Miu Yuk Lan was being held and rescued her. Wu Fei then took Miu Yuk Lan back to the hotel, and was about to head back to look for the Little Grasshopper when she thanked him. Wu Fei stopped in his tracks, as the voice sounded very familiar. Wu Fei then requested that she speak once more. At that point Miu Yuk Lan admitted that she was the Little Grasshopper who had cared for him when he was blind. Wu Fei was shocked and stunned that he had fallen in love and was saved by his enemy's daughter. Miu Yuk Lan decided to run away upon revealing her identity, but Wu Fei did not care. He was angry at first, but then decided to chase after her. Miu Yuk Lan then explained that her farther did not know that the sword was poisoned during the battle. Wu Fei did not believe her, and vowed to avenge his father’s death. Miu Yuk Lan then revealed that it was her farther who had saved him when he became mad learning kung fu. Upon hearing this Wu Fei wanted to return the favor, and headed back to Tin's kung fu school and saved Miu Yan Fung. Before leaving Miu Yan Fung threw the letter that Tin Gwai Lo sent to him over to Lam Lan.

When Miu Yan Fung discovered that Wu Fei was the real son of Wu Yat Do, he became overjoyed and went to hug him. Wu Fei pushed Miu Yan Fung's arms away and stated that he would avenge his father’s death. Later that evening Miu Yan Fung drank with Wu Fei and talked about the past. He revealed that he had been investigating the identity of the man who poisoned Wu Yat Do. He requested Wu Fei to give him one year to locate this man before taking his life. Wu Fei agreed and Miu Yan Fung left to find Duk Sau Yek Wong. Meanwhile Lam Lan opened the letter that Tin Gwai Lo had sent to Miu Yan Fung and realized that she had been fooled for 20 years. Tin Gwai Lo did not love her at all. Instead he married her to get to Lord Chong's treasure. Upon this realization, Lam Lan, became depressed and mad. Tin Gwai Lo then locked her up, and did not allow her to leave. Many days later Wu Fei heard news that a group of kung fu experts had set out to deal with Lip Song Ching. Since leaving the Red Flower Society, she had been living a hard but peaceful life. The group approached her and began attacking her. Wu Fei and Yiu Yat Yat dressed as Lip Song Ching's elder classmates arrived to save her. Wu Fei dealt with the group single handily and fought them off. Lip Song Ching then passed out upon realizing that Wu Fei had saved her.

She was then taken back to Miu Yuk Lan's house to heal. The doctor then informed them that Lip Song Ching was pregnant. Wu Fei still harbored strong feelings for Lip Song Ching and wanted to take care of her. Having heard that she was now pregnant Wu Fei proposed to marry her and treat the child as his own. At once Lip Song Ching rejected the idea and refused to drink medicine to get well. Miu Yuk Lan then spoke with Lip Song Ching and convinced her to look after herself. Wu Fei became impressed with Miu Yuk Lan's kindhearted nature. Many days later when Lip Song Ching recovered she decided to run away. Once more Wu Fei went in search for her. She was saved by an old friend Seng Bo Jan who had a crush on her. Seng Bo Jan was now running a courier business and neglected his business to look after her. Wu Fei eventually locates Lip Song Ching once more and promised to take good care of her. This time Wu Fei informed Lip Song Ching that he would do everything in his power to stay by her side and look after her. In order to prevent Wu Fei, from taking rash actions Lip Song Ching decided to marry Seng Bo Jan. When Lip Song Ching informed Wu Fei that she would marry, he was extremely upset at first. But later realized that she had made the right choice to marry Seng Bo Jan, who invited him to the wedding as best man.

Meanwhile Yiu Yat Yat and Miu Yuk Lan arrived and heard the town talk about a marriage at Seng Bo Jan's place. At once they assumed that Wu Fei was going to marry Lip Song Ching. They rushed to Seng Bo Jan's house and nearly caused a scene until Wu Fei set them straight. After the wedding Wu Fei took up drinking once more, but soon recovered realizing that Lip Song Ching would finally be happy. Many days later Wu Fei would be summoned back to the Red Flower Society by Jiu Boon Sam who wanted his help. The Red Flower Society set out to deal with Fok Hong Ong and Tin Gwai Lo's plans of opening a kung fu forum. Wu Fei was asked to go along with Jiu Boon Sam to see the leaders of the four big kung fu schools, Shaolin, Mo Dong, Kwun Lan, and Ngor Mei. Wu Yat Do had developed good relations with the leader of those schools so Jiu Boon Sam was confident that Wu Fei would help the negotiations. Unknown to them Fok Hong Ong, Tin Gwai Lo and Sak Man Jang had already captured the leaders of the big four kung fu schools. They then put the blame on the Red Flower Society. Naturally when Wu Fei and Jiu Boon Sam arrives at Shaolin they are accused for the disappearance of the Shaolin abbot. The Shaolin masters then attempted to capture Jiu Boon Sam in order to force Chun Ka Lok to release the abbot. The Shaolin master's underestimate Wu Fei's abilities however and they were defeated.

Wu Fei and Jiu Boon Sam then rushed to Mo Dong. When they arrived Wu Fei was accused of using his Wu family sword fighting style to kill two Shaolin messengers. Once again they attempt to capture Jiu Boon Sam and Wu Fei. This time both Wu Fei and Jiu Boon Sam suffer minor injuries but are still able to escape. As they journeyed back to the Red Flower Society, Wu Fei suspected that Tin Gwai Lo had something to do with the disappearance of the four masters. Jiu Boon Sam believed in Wu Fei's logic but thought that he was being helped by someone with greater kung fu ability. Meanwhile Yiu Yat Yat and Miu Yuk Lan sneak out from the Red Flower Society to see the wander around on lantern night. Miu Yuk Lan got lost and stumbled past Fok Hong Ong, who wanted to seduce her. Fok Hong Ong played a perfect gentleman as usual and helped Miu Yuk Lan find Yiu Yat Yat. Miu Yuk Lan then told Yiu Yat Yat what had happened. At once Yiu Yat Yat knew that the gentleman that Miu Yuk Lan referred to as Mr. Ong was up to no good and warned her to be careful but she did not listen. Many days later the four major kung fu schools attacked the Red Flower Society demanding the release of their masters. During the battle Fok Hong Ong pretended to be a hero, and saved Miu Yuk Lan. Fok Hong Ong tries to seduce Miu Yuk Lan once more but with no success.

Fok Hong Ong then sets Miu Yuk Lan free thinking that she would return to his side many days later. She would not return however, much to the disappointment of Fok Hong Ong. When Sak Man Jang informed him that Miu Yuk Lan loved Wu Fei only he became outraged. He had enough of playing games and wanted to take her by force. Sak Man Jang then finds Miu Yuk Lan, and attempts to trick her into sleeping with Fok Hong Ong. Miu Yuk Lan was told by Sak Man Jang that Wu Fei had been poisoned and in order to obtain the cure she must sleep with Mr. Ong. Miu Yuk Lan pondered the idea for a very long time. When Wu Fei arrived back, he became very ill. Jiu Boon Sam used his inner power to restore Wu Fei's health and informed then that Wu Fei had been poisoned and his life was in grave danger. Jiu Boon Sam then suspected that the man who had healed Wu Fei's eyes was not the real Duk Sau Yek Wong. Finally Miu Yuk Lan went to see Mr. Ong, to obtain the cure. Luckily Yiu Yat Yat had followed her, and realized that Miu Yuk Lan had gone to see Fok Hong Ong. Yiu Yat Yat knew that Miu Yuk Lan was in trouble and obtained the help of Wu Fei and the others. They arrived in time to prevent Miu Yuk Lan from being rapped by Fok Hong Ong. Despite suffering the effects of the poison Wu Fei captured Fok Hong Ong demanding the release of Miu Yuk Lan. It was then Miu Yuk Lan realized that the gentleman Mr. Ong was actually the sleazy Fok Hong Ong and realized that she had been fooled.

When the Red Flower Society saved Miu Yuk Lan, Wu Fei became extremely ill through the poison. Jiu Boon Sam then traded Fok Hong Ong for the cure, but Sak Man Jang fooled them. Back at the camp Jiu Boon Sam and the other Dong Ka's attempted to heal Wu Fei with little success. Jiu Boon Sam then informed them that Wu Fei had three months left to live. The group attempted to hide the truth from Wu Fei, but he overheard Miu Yuk Lan and Yiu Yat Yat talk about his health. At once he became concerned and wanted to push those who cared about him away. He treated Miu Yuk Lan poorly and by stating that he had always loved Lip Song Ching, and regretted not taking good care off her. When he realized that he had been wrong to hurt Miu Yuk Lan, it was already too late. Miu Yuk Lan ran away by herself. Meanwhile Miu Yan Fung tracked down Sak Man Jang and realized that he was not the real Duk Sau Yek Wong. At once Miu Yan Fung realized that Sak Man Jang might have something to do with Wu Yat Do's death and attempted to capture him. Suddenly another monk came to the rescue of Sak Man Jang. The monk was now called Bo Sit, he was the doctor who poisoned Wu Yat Do's knife, Yin Kei. Sak Man Jang and Bo Sit then collaborated to become loyal subjects of Fok Hong Ong. Together they planned to use Wu Yat Do's death set Miu Yan Fung and Wu Fei up for a death match.

In order to gain Fok Hong Ong's trust, Sit Bo had planned to capture Miu Yuk Lan. He spotted Miu Yuk Lan by herself and went to befriend her. Miu Yuk Lan trusted him because he was a monk. Sit Bo then led her to a temple and captured her with a black bag. Luckily Yiu Yat Yat and Sum Yee had followed her to the temple. Yiu Yat Yat would then save Miu Yuk Lan and place herself in the black bag. Sit Bo then took the bag back to Fok Hong Ong, who was extremely pleased. When he opened the bag and saw that it was Yiu Yat Yat, he became outraged and left. Sum Yee would then return and save Yiu Yat Yat. Later Wu Fei and Miu Yan Fung found Miu Yuk Lan at the temple. Miu Yan Fung then took his daughter home. Upon returning home Miu Yuk Lan became ill because her heart had been broken. It was finally fixed when Wu Fei revealed his true feelings for her. With Miu Yan Fung gone, Wu Fei and Miu Yuk Lan decided to spend the last few months of Wu Fei's life by being happy. They first visited the fishing village and then returned to the Red Flower Society days later. Wu Fei spent a short time at the Red Flower Society before heading to the kung fu forum with Miu Yuk Lan, Yiu Yat Yat and Sum Yee. Along the way they run into Seng Bo Jan and Lip Song Ching who was running a delivery. Now Yip Song Ching's twins have been born and Wu Fei was happy to see her.

Once Wu Fei and company left, Lip Song Ching's group was attacked by Fok Hong Ong's men. They captured Lip Song Ching's twins and taunted Seng Bo Jan who then committed suicide. When Lip Song Ching found out that Fok Hong Ong had captured the twins she yelled out loud before making a promise to follow his men back to see him. She buried her husband Seng Bo Jan and left to see Fok Hong Ong. When Wu Fei heard of the trouble he rushed to rescue Lip Song Ching only to discover that she was content with staying with Fok Hong Ong to take care of the twins. As Wu Fei was leaving he was ambushed by the guards and rushed back to save Lip Song Ching. Fok Hong Ong's mother did not like Lip Song Ching however and sent one of Fok Hong Ong's wives over with poison soup to see her. Lip Song Ching drank the poison soup and became ill. Wu Fei arrived too late but still managed to rescue Lip Song Ching. She was then taken back to the Red Flower Society but had only three days left to live. Lip Song Ching's final wish was to be able to hold her twins. Wu Fei and the others then waited for the return of Chan Ka Lok and Taoist Mo Chun before taking action. On the journey back Chan Ka Lok was tricked by Master Fong, the leader of Kwun Lan, as was captured by Fok Hong Ong. He would use this opportunity to use Chan Ka Lok to eliminate the Red Flower Society. When the Red Flower Society realized that Chan Ka Lok had been captured they rushed to rescue him. Wu Fei wanted to go along but Jiu Boon Sam stopped him by pushing his pressure point.

Whilst the Red Flower Society attempted to rescue Chan Ka Lok, Yiu Yat Yat released Wu Fei and together they went to save Lip Song Ching's twins. They succeeded and Wu Fei captured Fok Hong Ong's mother and rushed to rescue Chan Ka Lok. Meanwhile Fok Hong Ong was well prepared for the Red Flower Society. Taoist Mo Chun suffered a heavy injury during the battle. The Red Flower Society was backed into a corner, until Miu Yan Fung arrived to help. With Miu Yan Fung helping the Red Flower Society, they were able to rescue Chan Ka Lok. Wu Fei then arrived with Fok Hong Ong's mother as hostage allowing the Red Flower Society to escape. When they returned, Lip Song Ching was happy to be reunited with her twins. Although weak she called out for Fok Hong Ong. Wu Fei then asked Chan Ka Lok to imitate Fok Hong Ong so Lip Song Ching could die in peace. He accepted the proposal and Lip Song Ching died in his arms. Moments later Taoist Mo Chun also died. They were buried together the next day. Later the Red Flower Society sought to deal with Fok Hong Ong's kung fu forum. Wu Fei and Jiu Boon Sam would lead the group to attend the forum. Chan Ka Lok and Miu Yan Fung would go in search of the missing leaders of Shaolin, Mo Dong and Ngor Mei.

At the kung fu forum Fok Hong Ong, uses the disappearance of the four kung leaders as an opportunity to name four new great kung fu leaders. Fok Hong Ong named Tin Gwai Lo, Bo Sit, Tong Po and Master Hon as the new four leaders. The leaders of Shaolin, Mo Dong, Kwun Lan, and Ngor Mei, were against the idea however. In order to resolve the disagreement, Fok Hong Ong, decided to stage a contest. Bo Sit fought with the leader Ngor Mei and won. Tong Po defeated the leader of Kwun Lan, and Mo Dong looses to Master Hon. Finally Tin Gwai Lo fought with the Shaolin abbot. During the battle Sak Man Jang ambushed the Shaolin abbot with a poison needle allowing Tin Gwai Lo to win. Meanwhile Miu Yan Fung and Chan Ka Lok raced around from place to place to look for the missing kung fu leaders without success. Back at the forum, Master Hon, Tong Po and Bo Sit named Tin Gwai Lo as the leader of all of the kung fu schools. At that moment the Red Flower Society decided to step in to delay the formalities giving Chan Ka Lok and Miu Yan Fung more time. Dressed as mountain people the Red Flower Society stepped up to challenge the new four kung fu leaders. Master Hon, Tong Po and Bo Sit were no match for people like Jiu Boon Sam. Finally Wu Fei disguised as the leader of Sit San Pai, fought with Tin Gwai Lo. They fought to a standstill, as Wu Fei did not use the Wu sword fighting style, as he did not want to give away his identity. During the battle Yiu Yat Yat stepped in with further delaying tactics.

Eventually Tin Gwai Lo uncovered that the group dressed, as mountain men were the Red Flower Society. At once the masters of Shaolin, Mo Dong, Ngor Mei and Kwun Lan accused them of capturing their leaders. In order to restore the situation, Jiu Boon Sam, dragged the men into another room to discuss the situation. Jiu Boon Sam urged the masters to give Chan Ka Lok and Miu Yan Fung some more time, and all would be revealed. The masters agreed. Meanwhile Wu Fei, and Yiu Yat Yat were still stirring trouble for Fok Hong Ong. Wu Fei challenged Tin Gwai Lo to a duel to determine who would be the leader of all the kung fu schools. Tin Gwai Lo accepted after some pressure from the crowd. Wu Fei used his Wu sword fighting style to defeat Tin Gwai Lo who refused to admit defeat as he broke Wu Fei's sword in half during the battle. By this time Wu Fei was feeling the full effects of the poison. Tin Gwai Lo then challenged Wu Fei to a contest of inner power, knowing that Wu Fei was in trouble. Despite this Wu Fei's will carries him to victory. Sit Bo and Sak Man Jang then attempts to escape but Wu Fei captures them. He then asks them who was behind the death of Wu Yat Do. They replied that it was Miu Yan Fung. Meanwhile Chan Ka Lok and Miu Yan Fung returned with the Shaolin abbot and the leader of Mo Dong. At once the captured leaders revealed that Tin Gwai Lo, Tong Po, Bo Sit, Sak Man Jang and Master Hon were responsible for their capture.

Suddenly the crowd turned on Fok Hong Ong, but Tin Gwai Lo accepted full responsibility. Sak Man Jang then exploded a few smoke bombs and they managed to escape. Meanwhile Wu Fei felt the effects of the poison and collapsed. Chan Ka Lok and the others then combined their inner powers to attempt to heal him. They did their best and Wu Fei had been given another month to live. With one month left to live Wu Fei requests Chan Ka Lok to look after Lip Song Ching's twins when he dies. Chan Ka Lok agreed, so Wu Fei had one less unfinished business to take care off. Wu Fei then tracked down Miu Yan Fung, and requested him to find the truth behind his parent’s death. Miu Yan Fung agreed. As Wu Fei went to visit his parent’s burial he comes across, Lam Lan. She had managed to escape from Tin Gwai Lo, but had now gone mad. Wu Fei then decided to take Lam Lan with him to his parent’s grave. When Tin Gwai Lo heard that Wu Fei was with Lam Lan he planned to kill him. He took many men with him to ambush Wu Fei, who was not prepared for the attack. Wu Fei's sword was broken in half during the battle and took a blow. At last Lam Lan, remembered that Miu Yan Fung had placed her father’s sword beneath the ground in front of Wu Yat Do's burial. She began digging for it and told Wu Fei to get the sword. At once Wu Fei took the sword and battled with the men. The sword blade was very sharp and cut through all of his enemies’ blades. Tin Gwai Lo suffered a minor injury and decided to retreat. Finally Miu Yan Fung came by to take Lam Lan and Wu Fei back to his house.

Many days later Miu Yuk Lan arrived to be by her mother's side. She became sad when she realized that her mother had been driven mad by Tin Gwai Lo. Together Miu Yan Fung and Miu Yuk Lan tried to help Lam Lan through difficult times. Meanwhile Tin Gwai Lo wanted to steal the map leading to Emperor Chong's treasure from Miu Yan Fung. Tin Gwai Lo tricked his old friend Beggar Fan, and captured him. He wanted Beggar Fan to collaborate with him to steal the map from Miu Yan Fung. Always a smooth talker, Tin Gwai Lo was able to trick Beggar Fan into helping him. Meanwhile Lam Lan continued to blame herself and for leaving Miu Yan Fung. Finally she decided that she had no face to stay at Miu Yan Fung's house. She decided to leave and find Tin Gwai Lo. Lam Lan wanted to know whether Tin Gwai Lo had ever loved her during those 20 years. Having heard that she had been used all along Lam Lan laughed to herself as Miu Yan Fung and Miu Yuk Lan arrived. Lam Lan then attempted to kill Tin Gwai Lo but ended up being stabbed herself. Before dying Lam Lan revealed that Emperor Chong's treasure map had always been by her side. It was always in her hairpin. upon hearing this Tin Gwai Lo went mad and ran away. Miu Yan Fung and Miu Yuk Lan then buried Lam Lan's body. After Lam Lan's death Wu Fei tracked Bo Sit down, and forced him to reveal the truth. Bo Sit informed Wu Fei that Tin Gwai Lo was behind Wu Yat Do's death. Now it became clear why Tin Gwai Lo wanted to kill him and Miu Yan Fung. Despite this Bo Sit refused to tell the truth in front of a kung fu forum to clear Miu Yan Fung's name.

Many days later Wu Fei had run out of time. He had three days left to live. During that time Sum Yee made plans to marry Yiu Yat Yat. On their wedding night Wu Fei's poison struck once more, and was about to die. Miu Yuk Lan was going to risk her life and suck the poison from Wu Fei's body. Even though she had now married, Yiu Yat Yat, decided to sacrifice her life for Wu Fei and Miu Yuk Lan by sucking the poison from Wu Fei's body. Yiu Yat Yat died in the morning and was later buried. Wu Fei was saddened by Yiu Yat Yat's death, because he knew she loved him, and all he did was neglect her. Once Wu Fei recovered he continued in his search to find the truth. Miu Yan Fung and Wu Fei agreed to meet at Do Hei Nam's place to open a forum to reveal the truth. Unknown to them Tin Gwai Lo, and Fok Hong Ong had collaborated with Do Hei Nam to find Emperor Chong's treasure. Miu Yan Fung finally captured Sak Man Jang, who revealed the truth after Tin Gwai Lo had tried to kill him. Sak Man Jang suffered a heavy injury however which delayed Miu Yan Fung's journey to Do Hei Nam's house. Meanwhile, Wu Fei, Ping Si, Miu Yuk Lan, along with Bo Sit headed up to Do Hei Nam were they were kindly received. Tin Gwai Lo also showed his face and saw that Miu Yuk Lan was wearing Lam Lan's hairpin and sensed an opportunity.

After many nights at Do Hei Nam's house, someone had tried to kill Bo Sit and Ping Si. It was later revealed that Tin Gwai Lo was the man who tried to kill Bo Sit. Do Hei Nam came into help Tin Gwai Lo. Meanwhile Miu Yan Fung went to rescue Beggar Fan and nearly fell into their trap. He managed to battle through and free Beggar Fan before continuing his journey to Do Hei Nam's house. Beggar Fan arrived at Do Hei Nam's house and informed Fok Hong Ong and Tin Gwai Lo that Miu Yan Fung had managed to escape. Tin Gwai Lo then used this opportunity to put out a fake story to make Wu Fei leave. When Wu Fei heard that Miu Yan Fung was in trouble he immediately went to help him, leaving Ping Si and Miu Yuk Lan behind. At once Ping Si became suspected foul play. He then witness Tin Gwai Lo, Fok Hong Ong, Do Hei Nam and Beggar Fan all collaborate and kick Bo Sit over the edge of the mountain. Ping Si rushed to warn Miu Yuk Lan and they attempted to escape. They were caught however and Ping Si was also kicked over the edge of the mountain. Miu Yuk Lan was drugged and Tin Gwai Lo took possession of her hairpin. Whilst she was drugged Fok Hong Ong took the opportunity to rape Miu Yuk Lan, who thought that it was Wu Fei. Meanwhile Wu Fei runs into a trap but was able to defeat the group of soldiers. At once he realized he had been tricked and rushed back to rescue Miu Yuk Lan. Wu Fei found Miu Yuk Lan lying on the bed undressed. Suddenly Miu Yan Fung came into the room with Do Hei Nam. Wu Fei decided to jump onto the bed next to Miu Yuk Lan and listen in.

Miu Yan Fung was ambushed by Beggar Fan, and Tin Gwai Lo. During the struggle the curtains opened and Miu Yan Fung witness Wu Fei and Miu Yuk Lan laying next to each other in bed. Wu Fei rushed out to help Miu Yan Fung and fought of the men. Miu Yuk Lan ran off so Wu Fei decided to chase her. Miu Yan Fung also went to find Miu Yuk Lan. Meanwhile Ping Si and Bo Sit managed to survive. Ping Si wanted to avenge Wu Yat Do's death and decided to plant explosives all over Emperor Chong's treasure with the help of Bo Sit. Meanwhile Tin Gwai Lo, Beggar Fan, General Hoi, and Do Hei Nam all went to find the treasure fearing that Miu Yan Fung might come back to kill them. With the map and the sword, the group had no trouble locating the treasure. Once inside the greedy men all filled up bags with the treasure. General Hoi then attempted to stop them and claimed that all off the treasure belonged to Fok Hong Ong. The men ignored General Hoi and kept stuffing their bags with treasure. At once General Hoi killed Beggar Fan and they began to fight amongst themselves with greedy laughs. As they fought Bo Sit closed the door to the treasure and ignited the explosives. Ping Si then appeared in front of the men and laughed. They all died, through the impact of the explosion. Wu Fei rushed in to take Ping Si's body out of the cave and buried him in the snow.

Later Miu Yuk Lan and Wu Fei have an argument because she thought she had slept with Wu Fei. But Wu Fei denied to such a thing to her. Miu Yuk Lan thought that Wu Fei did not love her any more and ran off. Miu Yan Fung found his daughter in tears and thought that Wu Fei had rapped her. Wu Fei arrived shortly and Miu Yan Fung immediately charged at him. They fought long and hard, and soon they were hanging to the edge of the mountain. Miu Yan Fung and Wu Fei each knew that they needed to stop otherwise they would fall to their deaths. Meanwhile Miu Yuk Lan discovered that she was rapped by Fok Hong Ong and jumped over the edge of the cliff to commit suicide. Wu Fei looked up and saw Miu Yuk Lan's body falling towards them, and jumped up to save her. With his last effort, Miu Yan Fung, used his inner power to push Wu Fei and Miu Yuk Lan to safety. Miu Yan Fung would fall to the bottom of the cliff. When Wu Fei and Miu Yuk Lan found him he was in a coma. Meanwhile Fok Hong Ong tried to take Miu Yuk Lan with force but his soldiers were all killed by Wu Fei, who became outraged that Miu Yuk Lan had been rapped. Miu Yuk Lan would take Miu Yan Fung's body back to the monastery. Miu Yuk Lan blamed herself for being rapped by Fok Hong Ong and wanted to become a priestess. The monastery thought that Miu Yuk Lan was taking rash actions and gave her two years to decide.

From that day on a masked man tried to heal Miu Yan Fung. Wu Fei wandered around China performing heroic deeds like his late farther. Miu Yuk Lan stayed at the monastery. One day Fok Hong Ong arrived at the monastery with treasure, and took Miu Yuk Lan away. At once Fok Hong Ong's mother tried to use the poison soup to kill Miu Yuk Lan. She would not fall for this however and pretended to be ill. When Fok Hong rushed in she stabbed him twice with knife. Wu Fei arrived and rescued Miu Yuk Lan once more as Fok Hong Ong became outraged. Two years had gone by, and Miu Yan Fung was still in a coma when Wu Fei visited Miu Yuk Lan with Lip Song Ching's twins. Miu Yuk Lan still rejected Wu Fei's love, until Miu Yan Fung finally woke from his coma. He told his daughter to put the past aside and live a happy life with Wu Fei, and died. Miu Yuk Lan became saddened by the death of her farther and wanted to go ahead with being a priestess. On the day that she would be initiated into the monastery, Wu Fei, rushed in and told Miu Yuk Lan that he loved her unconditionally. He stated that he could no longer go on living without her and committed suicide. Whilst life was flowing away from Wu Fei's body Miu Yuk Lan admitted that she still loved Wu Fei deeply and did not want him to die. Upon hearing this a monk rushed in a grabbed Wu Fei's body.

It was the real Duk Sau Yek Wong, and he managed to heal Wu Fei back to life. Miu Yuk Lan and Wu Fei were together once more. As they were walking back towards the monastery, Duk Sau Yek Wong, reappeared with Miu Yan Fung who was still alive. They revealed it was a plan to make Miu Yuk Lan get back with Wu Fei all along. Regardless Miu Yuk Lan was now very happy that everything had been sorted out. In an instant Miu Yan Fung disappeared with Duk Sau Yek Wong, vowing never to interfere in Kong Wu matters again. Later the Red Flower Society arrived at the monastery informing Wu Fei that Fok Hong Ong would later arrived to claim the twins. Fok Hong Ong took a large group of troops to the monastery after he discovered that Wu Fei had brought Lip Song Ching’s twins with him. At once Fok Hong Ong rushed in to claim his sons, and his men battled with Wu Fei. Outside the Red Flower Society took care of Fok Hong Ong’s troops and he was son surrounded. Wu Fei wanted to kill Fok Hong Ong, but his blow was blocked by Chan Ka Lok who wanted to use Fok Hong Ong to save a small nation. Chan Ka Lok dressed as Fok Hong Ong and forced Emperor Kin Lung to sign a 100-year treaty of peace, which would save Princess Heung's nation from an attack by the Ching Empire. In return the Red Flower Society released Fok Hong Ong unharmed. Before leaving Fok Hong Ong attempted to take the twins with him and asked them to call him dad. But the twins called Chan Ka Lok dad instead and he became outraged as he left.

Wu Fei was due to marry Miu Yuk Lan and they decided to pay respects to Long Kim Chow and Wu Yat Do first. Next they paid their respects to Ping Si who was buried at the top of the Snowy Mountain. Wu Fei smiled as he looked at Miu Yuk Lan. Finally the 100 years of misunderstandings and bloodshed between the Wu and Miu families are over. They both admired the beautiful view from the mountain as they pondered a happy future together.

RATING - 4/10

"The Flying Fox of the Snowy Mountain 1999", is nothing but a TVB scriptwriter's own FanFic, based around some of Jin Yong's characters and first novel. Character changes and script changes made the story change very dramatic. Past TVB productions of Jin Yong's novels have contained some major and minor deviations before, but never to such a great extent as in this series. Even the author, Jin Yong, said he did not like this series because, it change so much that he thought it was no longer the Flying Fox. This is true, the two major themes in the original story is, "the greed of man", and "revenge". Instead of covering these themes in depth TVB just touched on them. Instead they tried to create a great love story but failed. The rape scene was totally unnecessary and did nothing more than to drag the story on for another two episodes. In the original story Miu Yuk Lan never spoke to or met Fok Hong Ong, and was never rapped so I don't know why it was necessary.

What was even worse was that the plot was made up of recycled material from Jin Yong's other great stories. The rape of Miu Yuk Lan, Yiu Yat Yat dressed as a playful beggar, Long Kim Chow wandering around talking about the story of Lip Dong Dai Hup, are all variations of moments taken directly from other stories. There are more, but I do not have the room to point them out. The director also made many blunders throughout the story, like Tin Gwai Lo not recognizing Ping Si. I mean he was the one who cut off Ping Si's left arm and slashed his face.

The acting in this series was no great, and was not helped by the fact that the series was filmed in summer. Guys like Sunny Chan and Wan Yeung Ming looked like they were sun burnt rather than feeling the effects of a chilled winter. Wong Yat Wah and Long Kim Chow were the best actors in the series. As ever Wong Yat Wah was commanding and heroic, befitting the character that he plays, whether it is Wu Tin or Wu Yat Do. Infact Felix Wong deserves much credit in this series. TVB focused on marketing Felix and Maggie Siu to attract a large group of viewers. Charmaine Sheh and Sunny Chan were not the main focus of their marketing campaign despite being the main leads. After Felix and Maggie, Eddie Cheung and Joyce Tang held up the series with their superb acting skills. But they did have patches were they too were terrible. Charmaine Sheh is not one of my favorite actresses, but she gained a little respect from me in this series. After a bad beginning in the series she did improve, to her credit. Sunny Chan did okay as Wu Fei, but he looked too weak and didn't have that heroic quality. The other actors, Liew Hiu Tung was impressive in her first series. Ngai Chun Kit? was better at playing evil than he was at playing Chan Ka Lok.

A direct comparison between this series and the 1985 series starring Liu Leung Wai can not be made. Simply because many of the characters had changed in terms of the way they were portrayed within the script. The extras like costume were okay. The theme song was disappointing considering the songs for the 1980's series. The music and tunes during the series were not unique, and have been used in thousands of other series.

Originally I gave this series 3/10 because it no longer resembled the original Jin Yong story. But if the series stood alone with no connection to Jin Yong, it would receive a rating of 5/10. Thus 4/10 is a fair rating for a series which neither stood out alone, and one which deviated too much from the original novel that Jin Yong himself did not like the series.

WONG YAT WAH AS WU YAT DO

Felix only appeared in the first few episodes of this series as a guest star and performed exceptionally well as both Wu Yat Do and Wu Tin. This role was similar to the one Felix palyed in Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils as Kiu Fung. Felix as always has a commanding on screen presence and his strong stature suited the role well. Infact in what has to be considered as one of the worst TVB adaptions of a Jin Yong novel ever, Felix was the one who held the series together. His performance was prehaps what attracted most people to watch the series. Felix's depiction of Wu Yat Do can be considered another mastery performance of one of Jin Yong's most important characters.
