DARK SHADOWS/MILLENNIUM CROSSOVER

EXT COLLINWOOD ON A FOGGY DAY VICTORIA WINTERS (V.O.)

Today a shroud of fog envelopes Collinwood, embracing it in cold, damp arms.
Hiding it's secrets... There are secrets at Collinwood; some innocent, some horrid,
some centuries old, some as recent as yesterday. But today, at the Old House, one
of those secrets is in danger of being exposed by a visitor... A visitor out of one
womans past.

INT> OLD HOUSE BASEMENT We see Willie Loomis stumbling down the cellar
stairs. He appears very agitated. He stops outside a closed wooden door and raps
on it.

WILLIE: Doctor Hoffman! Doctor Hoffman!

JULIA:
(Off screen behind the door)Willie, I told you I was not to be disturbed. Go
away!

WILLIE: 1-1 know, Dr. Hoffman, but-
(The door is jerked open from the inside
and we see Julia Hoffman standing in the doorway in a lab coat. Behind her is a
lab bench cluttered with assorted test tubes, Bunsen burners, etc. It is obvious
that she has been working long hours on something.)

JULIA: What is it Willie? I don't have time for this.

WILLIE :There's - there's someone here to see you. I told her that you were busy,
Bu-but she wouldn't go away until she spoke to you.

JULIA: Who are you talking about?

WILLIE: She says she has to see you. That she is an old colleague of yours and
that you would want to see her. I told her you were busy and couldn't see-I

JULIA: Damn it! Willie! Who is she?

WILLIE: She says her name is Butler. Yah, that's what she said. Lucy Butler!

Julia stands as if in shock, speechless.

ROLL OPENING CREDITS Return from opening credits.

Julia is standing in the lab doorway. She is visibly shaken.

JULIA: Willie, get rid of her! Now!

WILLIE: I told ya- she won't leave until she's talked to ya.

JULIA: Damn! Very well!

INT. OLD HOUSE PARLOUR Lucy Butler is standing in the center of the room
when Julia and Willie enter.

LUCY: Julia! It's been so long! (Lucy steps forward and embraces a stiff Julia, who
does not return the hug.)

JULIA: Yes, it has. What brings you here?

LUCY:
(smiling) Still the same old-serious-no-nonsense Julia, I see. (Lucy ignores Julia's question and addresses Willie )

LUCY: You know, when we were in college together, she was just the same. All
business. No social life to speak of.

(Willie is at a loss as to what to say.)

WILLIE: D-Dr. Hoff-Hoffman, it's getting late.

JULIA: What can I do for you?

Lucy: I understand you've become very successful, Julia. You work for the
Wyndcliffe Sanitarium, don't you?

JULIA:
(warily) I do...

LUCY: How wonderful! Oh, Julia, do you remember back at school? All those long
hours studying together in that cramped little dorm room. Night after night, alone?

(Lucy reaches out and clasps Julia's hand in both others. Julia snatches her hand
back but Lucy goes on as nothing has happened.)

LUCY: Who would have thought that you would have become the Director of
Wyndcliffe Sanitarium? Oh, Julia, I'm so proud of you!

BARNABAS:
(offcamera) "As are we all." (Willie and Julia spin around, Standing in
the doorway is BARNABAS COLLINS.)

BARNABAS: Aren't you going to introduce me, Julia? (Julia is very nervous at this
point)

JULIA: Oh, yes. I'm sorry. Lucy this is Barnabas Collins. Barnabas this is Lucy
Butler, we attended the same university.

(Barnabas takes Lucy's offered hand and kisses it.)

LUCY: I don't understand why Julia keeps trying to distance our "relationship". If
you had know her back at school you would have sworn I was her only friend.

BARNABAS: Oh, I believe I understand, I've known Julia long enough to know
that she is not...What is the word?...Ah, yes. "Demonstrative".

Barnabas turns to Willie.

BARNABAS: Willie, why have you not offered our guest some refreshment? Some
tea perhaps, or wine?

LUCY: Wine would be fine, Mr. Collins.

BARNABAS: Please, call me Bamabas.

(Willie leaves the room. Bamabas gesture to the settee. Lucy and Barnabas sit, but
Julia remains standing.)

BARNABAS: I'm so pleased to meet you. Miss Butler. Julia has seldom spoken of
her past, even to those of us who call her "friend".

LUCY: Some things never change, Mr. Coil- Barnabas. She was extremely closed
mouth at school, but I got her to open up to me. Didn't I, Julia?

(Julia remains silent.)

LUCY: We were in pre-med together. Those days are probably some of the best
memories I have of school...

BARNABAS: What branch of medicine do you specialize in. Dr. Butler?

LUCY: Oh, I'm, so sorry, I didn't mean to mislead you. I'm not a doctor. You see,
circumstances beyond my control forced me to transfer to another university
and-well- I set my sights on a more "honorable" position in the medical profession.
I became a Registered Nurse.

BARNABAS: I see. May I ask what brings you to Collinsport? I assume it wasn't
just to visit an old friend?

LUCY: I must admit I do have an ulterior motive incoming here...

(Lucy pauses and takes a deep breath)

LUCY:...For the last five years I've been working in the emergency room of Detroit
General Hospital. You can't begin to imagine some of the horrors I've seen..

(Lucy becomes teary eyed.)

LUCY: 1-1 just need a change. I still want to work inthe medical field, but not at
such an "intense" level' , I was hoping that Julia might be able to open the door
for me at Wyndecliffe.

BARNABAS: I'm sure Julia can find a position for you at Wyndecliffe, can't you
Julia?

JULIA
(utterly befuddled) "I-ah-1 will look into it, Bamabas."

LUCY: "Oh, thank you, Julia! You can't know what this means to me."

BARNABAS: Ah. here's Willie with the wine...

(Barnabas pours wine for all of
them.)

BARNABAS: 'I propose a toast. To returning friends."

(They all sip their wine, except Julia who barely lets it touch her lips.)

LUCY: I don't know how to thank you both, but I believe I have imposed on you
enough this evening. I really must be going.

(Lucy rises to leave . Julia and Barnabas walk Lucy to the door.
Barnabas takes his wine with him.)

LUCY: I'm staying at the inn in Collinsport if you have toget in touch with me, Julia.

(Lucy clasps Julias hand in both of hers.)

LUCY: Thank you, Julia. Thank you.

BARNABAS: Good night. Miss Butler.

LUCY: Good night, Bamabus!

(Barnabas and Julia stand in the door way, watching Lucy Butler walk off into the
night. Julia turns to Barnabas in a cold fury.)

JULIA: Barnabas! What do you think you were doing? I-I can't believe this!
Manipulating this- this- situation. You had no right to back me into a comer like
that. I have no intention of hiring her. You don't know what she's like!

(Barnabas calmly sips his wine, staring of into the night.)

BARNABAS: Julia, I was once offered some sage advice, which I now pass on to
you. Always hold your friends close; but keep your enemies closer.
