Dark Shadows/Millennium cross over part 4

OPENING SCENE: EARLY EVENING: A 1968 Mustang approaches the old house. JULIA HOFFMAN is the driver and her knuckles are white
on the wheel.

VICKIE WINTERS (V.O.) The sun has set on Collinwood, but bands of gold and violet still hang in
the sky, bringing peace and tranquillity to all who gaze upon it. All except one woman. A woman filled
with doubt and a vague sense of dread. As she approaches the Old House those feelings become
almost overwhelming.

The car pulls up to the Old House and before JULIA can get out of the car the front door of the Old House
opens and WILLIE LOOMIS runs over to the car. WILLIE bends down to the open drivers window .
He is speaking in a hoarse whisper to JULIA.

WILLIE: Dr. Hoffman, I'm so glad you're here. (WILLIE looks back at the Old House)

JULIA: What is it, Willie?

WILLIE: ( rubbing his hands together nervously) It-its's Barnabas!
I don't know what's goin? on. he's only been up for a little while... and I- I don't know!!!

JULIA: What do you mean? What's wrong? WILLIE: I- I'm not sure. I've never seen him like this before.

JULIA: Is there something wrong with Barnabas?

WILLIE: I don't know... If it was anyone else...I'd say...Dr. Hoffman, I think Barnabus is.. is scared!!!

SCENE ONE

INTERIOR: OLD HOUSE: PARLOUR:

We see BARNABAS sitting in the parlour, facing the fireplace. The candles are lit. From the
way BARNABAS is sitting we can tell he is full of tension. JULIA enters the room.

JULIA: (softly) Barnabas?

BARNABAS bolts to his feet, quickly turns and faces JULIA, his hands are clasped behind his back.

BARNABAS: Well, Julia, I presume that Miss Butler is now an employee of Wyndcliffe Sanitarium?

JULIA: She starts tomorrow.(JULIA gives a wane smile) The graveyard shift. BARNABAS:This is serious, Julia! She must be watched carefully.

JULIA:Barnabas, what have you found out?

BARNABAS turns his back on JULIA and begins to fidget with his onyx ring.

BARNABAS: Julia-I- When you introduced Miss Butler to this household.

JULIA: I never introduced her here! She just showed up!

BARNABAS holds up a hand to stop JULIA.

BARNABAS: I am sorry. When I first encountered Lucy Butler, I sensed an aura of ...of Evil about
her. I admit that now there is reason to believe that I underestimated the danger we are confronting.
What ever we do, Julia, we must never let our guard down in dealing with...this... woman!

SCENE TWO

WIDOWS HILL: NIGHT: FULL MOON

DAVID COLLINS and VICTORIA WINTERS are at the summit of Widows Hill. A breeze is blowing
ruffling DAVID and VICKIE'S hair. DAVID is intent on setting up his telescope.

DAVID: You're really gonna like this. I'm almost done.

VICKIE: (buttoning up her sweater) I'm sure I will, David.

VICKIE is staring off into the darkness. Her gaze stops on a copse of trees. Amongst the trees she
can make out the silhouette of a figure. It is obviously a Male figure.

VICKIE: (nervously) David? David, when did you say that...

From out of the trees steps LUCY BUTLER, The Male Figure is gone. VICKIE is confused.

LUCY: Hello, David. How are you this evening?

DAVID: Hi, Lucy. I want you to meet my governess, Miss Victoria Winters. Miss Winters, this is
Lucy Butler!

VICKIE: I'm pleased to meet you.

LUCY: David has told me so much about you. You are quite an influence on him.

LUCY notices that VICKIE keeps glancing back at the trees. Lucy does not look back, but asks Vickie..

LUCY: Is there something back there?

VICKIE: I -ah- I thought... I don't understand... Oh, never mind!

DAVID: Give me a minute and I'll have it all set to go!

LUCY: (smiling) That's why I came back, David.

VICKIE: David told me that you are a friend of Dr. Hoffman.

LUCY: Yes, Julia and I went to school together. As a matter of fact, Julia has hired me to go to work
at Wyndcliffe. I start tomorrow.

VICKIE: That's wonderful. Congratulations.

LUCY: Thank you. How long have you been governess for David?

VICKIE: Going on two years, now. He's a wonderful child.

LUCY: David speaks very highly of you. Almost as if you are a member of the family.

VICKIE: They have been very kind to me. To be honest, they are the only family I have ever known.

LUCY: Oh?

VICKIE: (embarrassed) You see, I- I never knew my parents. I was an orphan. The Collins Family
has opened their arms to me.

DAVID: (calling out) It's ready! Come see, come see!

LUCY: leans over the telescope and looks down into the side mounted eye piece.

LUCY: Let me focus this, David. There, now take a look at this.

David looks into the eyepiece.

LUCY: That crater is called Tycho. The diameter is 102 kilometers.

DAVID: What kind of name is TEE-KO??

VICKIE: Tycho Brahe, David was a 16th century astronomer. I suspect that the crater was named after
him.

LUCY: Very good, Miss Winters. Are you familiar with his work.

VICKIE: (laughing) Other then what I just told you, no.

LUCY: Tycho Brahe was the last great astronomer before the invention of the telescope. All his
observations were made with the naked eye. He was able to calculate the length of the year to
less than a second...

David yawns. He is bored.

LUCY: And he had a metal nose.

DAVID: What?

LUCY: A metal nose. It replaced his real one.

DAVID: Come on! No way!

LUCY: It's true. When he had been a student at university Tycho got it cut off in a duel.

DAVID: That's so cool! ( DAVID starts pretending to sword fight)

LUCY: There's a lot to learn from the Moon, David. (LUCY adjusts the eye piece again) Take another
look. This crater is 142 kilometers. It's called Pythagoras. I was named after the Greek
mathematician who believed that the mysteries of the Universe could be penetrated through the use
of magical numbers?

DAVID: Magical numbers?

LUCY: Yes. You know, The Hypotenuse of the right angle is equal to the sum of the squares of the
other two sides.??

VICKIE: I'm afraid I haven't introduced Geometry to David's studies, yet.

LUCY: (clucks her tongue in disapproval) Now, now! We can't let his education go lacking, and
don't forget the Harmony of the Spheres?.

LUCY pushes David's head back to the eye piece.

LUCY: Here is Herodotus. It's 34 kilometers. It was named after the Greek historian...

DAVID: Herodotus?

VICKIE: He's known as the Father of History.

LUCY: (smiles at VICKIE) Now, take these two craters. They are both called Theon, Jr. & Sr.

DAVID: How do you tell them apart?

LUCY: Look closely, David. Theon Jr. (Theon of Alexandria was a Greek astronomer) Theon Jr. is 17
kilometers, while Theon Sr. ( a Greek mathematician of Smyrna) is 18 kilometers.

DAVID: Oh, I see.

Vickie smiles and shakes her head.

LUCY: Do you see this crater, David? It is 12 kilometers and it will be called Lindbergh, after
Charles Lindbergh, the first man to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

VICKIE: Really, Miss Butler, I must object!

LUCY: What do you mean?

VICKIE: I have no problem with you teaching David history with the names of the Moon craters, but
come now! 17- 18- 12 kilometer craters? You can't possibly be seeing them. That telescope is not
powerful!

LUCY: Miss Winters, my eye sight is extremely keen.

DAVID: I can see them!

VICKIE: (sternly) David!

LUCY: Take a look yourself, Miss Winters and tell me what you see.

VICKIE leans over and begins to adjust the eye piece. LUCY reaches out and gently touches Vickie on
the back of the neck.
