Rutger Hauer
2000

Site History

John's Rutger Hauer Site...
This site was originally created in 1995 at a time when only one other Rutger fan site
was in existance.  We were housed on a University server and was made by myself,
a novice HTML learner at the time.  Pictures were scarce at the time, Rutger related
information even more so, however I managed to scrounge up enough to put together a
small site in dedication to Rutger.  It was called "John's Rutger Hauer Site" or
some such rubbish.  It was not a separate site, but rather an offshoot link from the site
I had made about myself at the time.  Along with it were other small tributes to the likes
of Elton John, Clive Barker, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and Mo Johnston.  Hits
were slow coming, but I quickly learned that there were many, many Rutger Hauer fans
out there at the time and they were starving for information.  Therefore, in early 1996, I
began the first mailing list dedicated to Rutger Hauer.  The details of the evolution of the
mailing list are located on the mailing list page.

The Grendel Rutger Hauer Page...

It wasn't long before I ventured further into the world of Rutger Hauer and set the
website apart from my other sites.  I found a home at geocities and tooled around with it
for a long time before actually putting it out.  What I reared was a more informative and
larger site than before.  My picture collection had grown and I had added some personal
reviews of Rutger movies that I had seen.  After about a year, however, I grew tired of
the format and wanted a change.  Throughout my college career I went by the screen
name "Grendel" (and still do at certain times after comic book character) and went about
transforming my Rutger page into a fansite with a touch of personal flair.  What emerged
was the "Grendel Rutger Hauer Page."
Rutger Hauer 2ooo
I was quite proud of the site, I finally had a site that had a good amount of information,
nice pictures, links, sounds, and just about anything else you could want in a fan site.
Alas, a switch again was in the works as I decided to drop the every day use of
"Grendel" as my nickname (I had just graduated) and wanted to change the site again
to get away from the Grendel content.  I wanted a catch, however, and it presented
itself in the new millenium.  The result was version one of "Rutger Hauer 2000."
Obviously I wasn't the only one to jump on to the millenium bandwagon, but it was still
catchy.  I still was not as happy as I wanted to be with that site either, but a move to
Japan and the beginnings of a new job led to disrepair for the site.  It was always a
guilt in the back of my mind, so I sat down and went to work revamping it all over again
from scratch.  The result is plain to see.
The Oldest Site...
Over the years, Rutger information on the Internet has skyrocketed from the small
fan sites when I started.  I've met a great many people, some of whom even know
Rutger personally, and have made wonderful friends from the fruit of my labors.  I do
find it difficult to find time for updating the site at times, but I wouldn't give it up.  It's
brought me too much happiness.  So, there you have it.  Countless incarnations, names,
homes, and what not have brought the current site to you.  As far as I know, this
currently is the longest running fansite dedicated to Rutger Hauer on the Internet.  I
make no claims that this is the best, because it's not, but it's the oldest.
About Me...
For those of you screaming to see a picture of yours truly, TOO BAD!  No, just kidding.  Here I am...

Scary, isn't it?

As an interesting side note, throughout the years I have been mistaken for Rutger Hauer
many many times.  This is mostly from people who come to my site and believe it was
done by Rutger.  No such luck I'm afraid.  As you can see, I look nothing like Rutger,
therefore I must reiterate here...I am not Rutger Hauer.  I look more like Elton John
than Rutger if you want the truth.  If you want to see Rutger's official site, go to
www.rutgerhauer.com.

Yes, this is a personalized autograph picture from Rutger.
Aren't you jealous?  It's framed and hanging back in America.
